TGIO...

I love October -changing leaves, trimming dead wood - fresh scents of change in the air.
"As long as the roots are not severed, all is well. And all will be well in the garden. In the garden, growth has it seasons. First comes spring and summer, but then we have fall and winter. And then we get spring and summer again."

Party zealously pursue policies so obviously counter to the best interests of ordinary Americans?

It can only be

Visit the Rove Playbook Archives

It's already clear that Mr. Hastert, at least on this issue, is a fumbler and double-talker. He has been the epitome of ineptitude. And his effort at partisan deflection, in a Chicago Tribune interview, was pathetic. He said, "The people who want to see this thing blow up are ABC News and a lot of Democratic operatives, people funded by George Soros." There you have it. The real problem is bad publicity, and the media and Mr. Soros, the billionaire Democratic contributor, should be blamed. Somehow. Maybe. Whatever. It's worked before.

Two-thirds of Americans aware of the lurid e-mails set to congressional pages by a G.O.P congressman believe Republican leaders tried to cover up the scandal — and one quarter of them say the affair makes them less likely to vote for Republican candidates in their districts come November. Those are among the findings of a new TIME poll conducted this week among 1,002 randomly-selected voting-age Americans.

Stunner: Abramoff Bomb Lands In Karl Rove's Office, Deputy Resigns - A BuzzFlash Guest Contribution from Brent Budowsky

Hastert Proven Liar By Another Person, His Own Staffer: "House Speaker J. Dennis Hastert's chief of staff confronted then-Rep. Mark Foley about his inappropriate social contact with male pages well before the speaker said aides in his office took any action, a current congressional staff member with personal knowledge of Foley and his behavior with pages said yesterday." Hastert Knew And Kept It Under Wraps, Failing to Protect Pages from a GOP Sexual Predator.

Sir,

Your blog is high quality.

I also love the changes that the seasons bring with them. And even if the weather is usually more depressing in November, I'm pretty sure that despite the shorter hours of daylight, and despite the lower temperatures, we should be all drinking champagne on the 9th !

Thank you, Sir, for your great posts !

Have a nice week end !

Fitz I have lived with the seasons for so long now I'm glad I'm in California. I like looking at the snow not in it. Just a visit will do. I see the mountains with snow tops but it's 85 degrees. Now with global warning I guess moving isn't going to do much anymore. I visited my son in Colorado and it's cold. But I must admit the air is much cleaner back east. Just my thoughts.

The changes of the weather is sort of like the changes of the GOP. We dealt with the GOP corruption in the spring, summer, fall, winter for 5 years. As the leaves fall from the change of summer, it is reminder of the changes that public will make in the November election. The leaves fall as the GOP falls. It is time to pick up the leaves called the GOP and put them in the trash bin and want a change in this country. I just saw a woman who is running for city council this morning who is passing flyer out for people to vote for her. She is a single mom. She told me that she simply wants a change. And I told her: so do I.

WASHINGTON - The House's investigation of a page sex scandal has only one certainty: Former Rep. Mark Foley will escape punishment by his peers.

It is the Florida Republican's sexually explicit electronic messages to teenage former male pages that have ignited what has become a pre-election firestorm.

Congress only can punish current members, officers and employees. Foley resigned on Sept. 29, but is under investigation by federal and Florida authorities.

If the House ethics committee finds evidence of a Republican cover-up, many people could be in jeopardy, facing consequences that range from a mild rebuke in a committee report to a House vote of censure or expulsion.

VERMILLION, S.D. - Veteran CBS newsman Bob Schieffer, who received the Al Neuharth Award for Excellence in the Media at the University of South Dakota, says the nation has never needed a vigorous free press more than now.

"I cannot remember a time when it's been more challenging for journalists," said Schieffer, 69, who has covered Washington for more than 30 years and hosts the CBS interview show "Face the Nation."

He said Thursday the government will always cover up its mistakes if it operates in secret and that it was up to journalists to expose the truth.

"Why does the government need a list of my phone calls?" he asked. "And what business does a democracy have running secret prisons? ... Do you believe that anyone would have known about these secret prisons or what was going on in Abu Ghraib if it had been left to the government to announce it?

"Some would argue these revelations hurt our cause. I argue just the opposite. Bringing mistakes to the fore is a strength, not a weakness."

Come on, Bob--admit it. Katie sucks.

A new report says risks of global crash have increased. Why? Look no further than the United States' $68 billion July trade deficit.

Last week, the International Monetary Fund released its semiannual Global Financial Stability Review, ahead of meetings this weekend in Singapore. The report was full of warnings that the risk of a global financial crash is increasing. This comes hot on the heels of a message from HSBC, one of the world's largest investment banks, that it has put the United States on recession alert.

So what is behind all of the doom and gloom? Chalk it up to the rising global imbalances in trade and foreign reserves that are boosting the possibility that a cyclical global slowdown could melt down into something worse. Not surprisingly, the U.S. economy is the key variable here.

is the common name for the paradox which states that an entirely rational ass, placed exactly in the middle between two stacks of hay of equal size and quality, will starve since it cannot make any rational decision to start eating one rather than the other. OLEDO, Ohio - Just a month before the elections, a former Republican fundraising star is set to go on trial on charges that he stole millions of dollars from a state investment in rare coins.

The timing couldn't be worse for the GOP. Democrats, who haven't won a statewide executive office since 1990, are poised to take back the governor's office and are in position to win a majority of the five statewide races, according to recent polls.

Sorry if already posted but,

If Fordham did warn Palmer about Foley a long time ago, what are the odds that Palmer did not tell Hastert? As close to zero as you can get. Many chiefs of staff are close, very close, to their bosses on Capitol Hill. But none are closer than Scott Palmer is to Denny Hastert. They don't just work together all day, they live together.
Posted Oct 7, 2006 09:16 AM PST

How very odd, given Hastert's anti-gay voting record!

whatreallyhappened.com

For now, Hastert is holding on to the Speaker's office because the Republicans don't have anyone in the leadership who is squeaky clean enough to take the job. Every one of them is tainted by the Foley scandal or the Abramoff scandal or the DeLay scandal or, like Henry Hyde, has some ancient sexual indiscretion in his background. But if the press cracks Scott Palmer's denial of Kirk Fordham's bombshell, then Denny Hastert is going to have to pass the gavel to some freshman we've never heard of.

Disgusting pigs.

The audience included some who served both 41 and 43, as the presidential pair are known. Colin L. Powell and James A. Baker III, former secretaries of state, were there, as was Andrew H. OMG -- now James Dobson is spinning the BS on Foley big time. He's blaing ythe pages too -- how dispicable! From crooks and liars:

DOBSON: As it turns out, Mr. Foley has had illicit sex with no one that we know of, and the whole thing turned out to be what some people are now saying was a — sort of a joke by the boy and some of the other pages … By midafternoon yesterday, a rumor emerged that in fact Mark Foley had been pranked by the House pages. It is the first plausible thing I've heard in seven days..

One of the Three Pages wrote:

quote:
"I was seventeen years old and just returned to [my home state] when Foley began to e-mail me, asking if I had ever seen my page roommates naked and how big their penises were," said the page in the 2002 class.

The former page also said Foley told him that if he happened to be in Washington, D.C., he could stay at Foley's home if he "would engage in oral sex" with Foley.

NEWPORT NEWS, Va., Oct. 7 — It was a rare and poignant moment, one that moved President Bush to tears.

Not the current President Bush, but the first, who was joined Saturday at a shipyard here by dozens of political luminaries and his extended clan — including the son he calls “the president” — to christen a Navy aircraft carrier bearing his name.

How much did Clinton and Greenspan cover up for dear Poppy the pedophile thief?

Why do you think that the same faces show up in administrations for 40 years. Why do you think the same people keep showing up in different positions in government? Then they show up on corporate boards of oil or defense related companies yet they keep finding their way back into government or into the World Bank?

Open your eyes a bit. You are sadly uninformed.

The SS didn't rush and grab the goat teller because they knew he was safe, W. could also see a plane hit a building on tv before the rest of the world did!

3 buildings fall in seconds (and blow steel beams side-ways into other buildings) because of fires melting steel. Cloaked aircraft are seen around the trade center, now why would they be there before the buildings fell?

SEOUL (AP) — North Korean leader Kim Jong Il rallied hundreds of top military commanders as world powers pushed for a U.N. censure of his government amid mounting speculation the North was preparing to detonate an atomic bomb.

Media reports have speculated a nuclear test could come Sunday, the anniversary of Kim's appointment as head of the Korean Workers' Party in 1997. Japan said it was stepping up monitoring of North Korea in light of the speculation.

I seem to have a vague rememberance of perhaps carlin on campus where he was on stage in front of a pyramid and discussed all of the sharp things you are allowed to board on an aircraft with..

U.S. Casualties in Iraq Rise Sharply
Growing American Role in Staving Off Civil War Leads to Most Wounded Since 2004

By Ann Scott Tyson
Washington Post Staff Writer
Sunday, October 8, 2006; Page A01

The number of U.S troops wounded in Iraq has surged to its highest level in nearly two years as American GIs fight block-by-block in Baghdad to try to check a spiral of sectarian violence that U.S. commanders warn could lead to civil war.

Last month, 776 U.S. troops were wounded in action in Iraq, the highest number since the military assault to retake the insurgent-held city of Fallujah in November 2004, according to Defense Department data. It was the fourth-highest monthly total since the U.S.-led invasion of Iraq in March 2003.

came across three films produced by the BBC called "The Power of Nightmares" which explain how various groups use the fear of terrorism to advance their political power. I've spent all day converting them to a smaller format so that they can be ea silly downloaded. But they are an hour long each and are about 75 megs each. They are however extraordinary and it's quite an education into the history of Islamic Terrorism and American neo conservatives.

These are good films to watch. Shows that bin Laden didn't have the big following as you think.

Several media persons say there is another pervert in Congress to be announced. Looks like fingers Foley wasn't the only one hitting on kids.
Hastert had a decision to make protect the power of the White House or protect the kids from child sex offenders. He made that choice. Others set back and did nothing in hopes that no one would find out. It was a well kept secret for over 10 years. The Congress and the Speaker know how to keep things a secret. As for the kids who most are grown now they were victims of American Politics. Abused children sometimes become adult abusers. Lately it looks like child sex offenders get off scott free. John Mark Karr and Mark Foley walked and are free to abuse more children. Karl Rove said Republicans are the only party that have religious family values and morals now we know just what he means by that. America has experienced those values and morals and so have the pages who were abused.

Good morning.

Miss Jackie is probably right about Hastert not resigning. (He better not get away with the other evil-doings he's done to our country.)

http://www.nydailynews.com/front/
story/459723p-386713c.html

"Bad decision for the Republicans, but it's great news for the Democrats," pollster Doug Schoen insisted of Hastert's decision to remain House speaker.

Many Democrats believed their party was going to take control of the House even before Foley's follies forced his resignation. Having Hastert remain in the job may be a reminder to voters that the GOP is knee-deep in a tawdry scandal.

Foley's behavior has also .allowed Democrats to resurrect their "culture of corruption" slogan, which was first affixed to Republican lawmakers tied to convicted lobbyist Jack Abramoff.

If the Democrats' tactics work and Republicans lose their House majority, Hastert's tenure will come to an end after Election Day instead of this month.

Good Morning JB's,

The old warriors behind Bush ("Tertium Quid")

If Bush knew anything about Vietnam, if he had "the foggiest idea" about foreign policy, he wouldn't be turning to Vietnam warriors like Kissinger, Cheney and Rumsfeld for advice on how to combat an insurgency.

That these men are being allowed to repeat the same mistakes 30 years later is a tragedy America will regret for many years to come.
-------------------
"Tertium Quid"- "a third something-the supercilious, contemptuous...man who takes pride in his unsympathy, and who plays with judgment trivially, smartly, and sneeringly, even in the face of...violent crime-who found nothing in human life worthy of serious consideration save the etiquette and intrigue of his own polite circle."--Robert Browning, The Ring and the Book (referring to 14th century Rome)

After the mission, the soldiers tell us their morale remains high, but insist Iraqis need to do more.

"It's time for them to take the reins and take responsibility for their country," they say.

Until then, it's U.S. troops mediating, fighting and dying.

The war-mongers need to get their bases built, more money pocketed, more people slain...these boys' spirits are being broken for evil-doers' agendas.

Why doesn't someone start telling the truth for once and stop shaming this country? The Iraqis and the troops deserve the truth along with the citizens of this country and the world.

Only a fool would be believe that the feds didn't have advanced warnings of 9/11. Who benefited the most by letting it happen or God forbid..making it happen?

If humanity survives, what will you tell your grandchildren, your grown children if they have the courage to break the cycle and come to you with the question, "Why did you do it?"
