Oh Oh...Fordham is sticking by his story! Hastert's in Trouble!

I really don't think that No. 8 Bus is coming anymore...

AP Revelation Means Trouble for Hastert
By Paul Kiel - October 4, 2006, 5:32 PM

Click Story

House Speaker Dennis Hastert's (R-IL) alibi for failing to address Mark Foley's follies is toast, as Greg points out over at Election Central.

Kirk Fordham's revelation that House Speaker Dennis Hastert's (R-IL) staff was warned about the "worrisome conduct" of Mark Foley with teenage pages back in 2004 completely explodes Hastert's explanation for why his office didn't do more in the fall of 2005.

The House Speaker has argued that Foley's emails that came to light in 2005 weren't sufficiently explicit to warrant action -- in stark contrast to the sexual IM conversations, the emails were merely "over-friendly." But in the context of prior specific warnings about Foley, such an explanation seems even weaker -- even dishonest.

Hastert, through his spokesman, has flatly denied Fordham's accusations: "That never happened."

But Fordham's sticking by it, saying "Rather than trying to shift the blame on me, those who are employed by these House Leaders should acknowledge what they know about their action or inaction in response to the information they knew about Mr. Foley prior to 2005."

Update: Fordham's starting to name names, too. "Fordham. . . said that as far back as 2003, Hastert chief of staff Scott Palmer had been told that Foley was too friendly with pages," ABC reports. "According to Fordham, Palmer spoke to Foley about the matter." The network says it could not reach Palmer for comment.

Breaking News: AIDE: "FORDHAM WILL SPEAK TOMMORROW TO FBI!"

Foley's Former Chief of Staff Says Foley's Behavior Was No Secret to Speaker Hastert

October 04, 2006 6:35 PM

Brian Ross Reports:

Fordham_nr_3As the FBI investigation picked up steam, with agents contacting former pages across the country, there were new allegations that Foley's suspect behavior towards pages was no secret to the Speaker of the House and his top staff for at least three years.

Kirk Fordham, former chief of staff for Foley, told ABC News today that sometime in late 2003, he told the Speaker's chief of staff that Foley was getting too close to young male pages.

Fordham says the Speaker's aide, Scott Palmer, then met with Foley. Fordham also said the Speaker knew about the meeting.

Fordham says there had been a series of warnings from page supervisors that Foley was spending too much time with the pages in ways that were inappropriate and would not stop.

Pages themselves say they had been warned by Republican staff to be careful around Foley.

"It was a slight cautionary statement, you know, 'Don't get too wrapped up in him being too nice to you,' and all that kind of stuff. You know, 'He's a nice guy but he's a little bit odd,'" said Matthew Loraditch, a former page and now president of the U.S. Page Alumni Association.

Fordham made his allegations today on the same day he was forced to resign as the chief of staff for another Republican congressman, Tom Reynolds of New York.

In response to a reporter's question at a press conference, "But should somebody take responsibility for what seems to have been a breakdown besides Foley?"

Congressman Tom Reynolds (R-NY) answered, "I'm taking responsibility for what I did."

Reynolds said he personally told Speaker Hastert himself earlier this year that there were potential problems with Foley.

"When I found out about this whole instance for the first time in the Spring of '06, I reported it to my supervisor, like anyone would in an office circumstance. I took it to the Speaker of the House," Rep. Reynolds said.

Reynolds says it wasn't until he saw Foley's sexually explicit instant messages on ABC News that he decided tougher action was required.

"When I saw the despicable and deplorable e-mails that no child, no person should have to see, then I said he's gotta go. And can we get his resignation?" he said.

A spokesman for the Speaker's office today denied that anyone from Foley's office made contact about Foley's contacts with pages.

Fordham says he did not want to talk on camera because he plans to contact the FBI tomorrow to tell what he knows.

According to Woodward, Kissinger recently gave a Bush aide a copy of a memo he wrote in 1969 arguing against troop withdrawals from Southeast Asia, an issue as salient four decades ago as it is now.

Kissinger's September 10, 1969, advice to President Nixon famously characterized withdrawals from Vietnam as "salted peanuts" to which the American people would become addicted.

The source who in July gave news media Rep. Mark Foley’s (R-Fla.) suspect e-mails to a former House page says the documents came to him from a House GOP aide.

That aide has been a registered Republican since becoming eligible to vote, said the source, who showed The Hill public records supporting his claim.

The same source, who acted as an intermediary between the aide-turned-whistleblower and several news outlets, says the person who shared the documents is no longer employed in the House.

But the whistleblower was a paid GOP staffer when the documents were first given to the media.

The source bolstered the claim by sharing un-redacted e-mails in which the former page first alerted his congressional sponsor’s office of Foley’s attentions. The copies of these e-mails, now available to the public, have the names of senders and recipients blotted out.

These revelations mean that Republicans who are calling for probes to discover what Democratic leaders and staff knew about Foley’s improper exchanges with under-age pages will likely be unable to show that the opposition party orchestrated the scandal now roiling the GOP just a month away from the midterm elections.

Foley Scandal: What Will Tomorrow Bring?

By Justin Rood - October 4, 2006, 11:11 PM

It's safe to say that Washington politicos are jittery tonight, shell-shocked from the revelations in the Mark Foley scandal that keep exploding all around them. The quiet gives them time to wonder: What will tomorrow bring?

For one, we're hearing that House Speaker Dennis Hastert (R-IL), who's been heaped with scorn and blame over the scandal, is planning a press conference in Chicago tomorrow morning. No word on what he'll say, although speculation abounds that he may announce he's quitting his leadership post -- either now or after the elections.

Numerous press accounts have hinted that lawmakers besides Foley have engaged in untoward behavior with pages; anybody ready to go to print with what they've got?

Finally, the House ethics committee is reconvening tomorrow, in a special session to deal with the Foley mess.

They're expected to approve an investigation of some sort. Folks from both sides of the aisle have called for a special prosecutor.

Desperate to take some decisive action and quiet the angry criticism from within their own party, the GOP might encourage the committee to appoint one, rather than have the ethics panel investigate the matter on its own.

The fact that Hastert is sequestered at home with a feeding frenzy of media shows that the American people are holding him accountable for his handling of the Foley Scandal.

Foley, Hastert, and Boehner knew better..

..and don't think that it's over if Hastert Resigns...Boehner will be next..

Guaranteed!

Oh and btw..

33 Days Until the Election..
Alot can go wrong for the GOP in 33 days...

Heck, I can have a full life experience in 33 days..

Pedophilia and Predators in Govt Buildings don't mix?

Hmm...Maybe that should be the Democrats and Independent's Running Platform?

s-q,

Here's a possible solution to Hastert and Boehner's Bus troubles:

It was what Pelosi suggested:
"With the House Ethics Committee scheduled to begin an investigation today, House Democratic leader Nancy Pelosi said that Hastert and the rest of the GOP leadership should be "immediately questioned under oath."

Under Oath after the FBI talks to Fordham..

That would be a good solution.

If he lies under oath, he's toast and they both know it.

Bipartisan cooperation is the key.

Good morning/afternoon/evening JBs:

TGIF!

"Hastert is resting comfortably tonight under the Bus where several
GOP members are bringing him Juice and Cookies to munch on.."

GEF:

He won't be resting too comfortably under the bus since his own people are turning on him to save their own asses..

Juice and Cookies GEF? I don't think so. That fat ass Hastert is still sucking every drop of what's left of the GOP koolaid! It is a matter of time that Hastert's ass will be tossed. And I know that some of his GOP buddies are dying to take his position.. Hastert may be stubborn to stay the course adn refuse to leave his job, but he will be removed sooner of later. And Reynolds and the rest of them that cover the pervert Foley and his uptime events will be good as gone...
