Really!

And in news about suits over NSA wiretaps:

"Facing two dozen legal skirmishes around the country over top-secret NSA surveillance programs, federal lawyers want to shift the battlefield to their home turf, where they will try to put an end to it all with a single shot.

In a little-noticed filing, U.S. Department of Justice lawyers on Monday asked the Judicial Panel on Multidistrict Litigation to consolidate about two dozen cases, including two from Oregon, before a judge in Washington, D.C.

Federal lawyers said they intended to seek dismissal of all the suits in order to protect state secrets.

The move, which did not reach many opposing attorneys until Tuesday, comes as federal attorneys are expected today to inform a federal judge in Portland that a lawsuit here would expose state secrets. They are expected to make the same argument in San Francisco later this week.

Last week, Justice Department lawyers filed a lawsuit trying to stop New Jersey from subpoenaing information about an NSA program and defended another lawsuit in Michigan.

Bah! Humbug! Everybody knows that widespread evesdropping, data mining, and internet spying is technically easy. The problem is that lots of innocent fish get caught in shark nests. It appears that the Justice Department is copping out on this one.

Interesting about Ralph Reed, holier than thou! Another one caught with his pants down. I did read the Abramoff's email exchange with Scalon on page 56 of 373. There wwere really cocky ripping off the Indians.. But, then again, the Gerbil and company got real cocky in the 2000 stolen election and the invasion of Iraq. And the Gerbil gotten so comfortable on his throne that in the first 8 months in office in his first term, the sitting lame duck President Gerbil was on vacation 42% according to the Washington Post. So, the corrupted GOP, lobbyist, and the Administration are now on borrowed time and they will be caught!

Folks,

More in the news in relation to Abramoff:

1. Developing story from Raw Story:

Soon: Whistleblower reveals Bush team gave Abramoff aid...

2. Email shows Norquist asked Abramoff for client's donations

According to the last page of the 373-page final report issued by Senator John McCain and his Senate Indian Affairs Committee in an investigation into tribal lobbying matters related to convicted lobbyist Jack Abramoff and his former partners, a few nonprofit organizations may have run astray of the Internal Revenue Service.
"In the course of its investigation, this Committee uncovered numerous instances of nonprofit organizations that appeared to be involved in activities unrelated to their mission as described to the Internal Revenue Service," the report says

The following email, contained in documents released today by the Senate Committee on Indian Affairs, shows president of Americans for Tax Reform Grover Norquist asking for money from Indian tribes, clients of fallen lobbyist Jack Abramoff. Records previously released show that Norquist received thousands of dollars to host events at which Abramoff clients met key Republican figures, including President George W. Bush.

http://www.rawstory.com/news/2006/Email_shows_Norquist_asked_Abramoff_for_0622.html

Email is on Raw Story. But, Abramoff's ties goes all the way up to the food chain and let's not count out Porkrind's ties to Norquist either.

Now this is interesting news on Ny Post. Truth does come out sooner or later:

Feds tried to zap 9/11 kin for Zac at trial

BY JAMES GORDON MEEK
DAILY NEWS WASHINGTON BUREAU

WASHINGTON - Government prosecutors fought to bar a dozen 9/11 family members from testifying that Al Qaeda plotter Zacarias Moussaoui's life should be spared, the Daily News has learned.
In April, prosecutors lined up 45 relatives of Sept. 11 victims to testify in support of Moussaoui's execution, and the government was hailed for giving the families a voice in court.
Behind the scenes, however, they argued in closed hearings that U.S. District Judge Leonie Brinkema should not allow other 9/11 families to testify for the defense.
"The defense wants these witnesses only to sneak in something about their anti-death penalty views [and] the court should not allow it," prosecutors wrote in an April 3 pleading unsealed this week.
Brinkema ruled in favor of the family witnesses that defense lawyers recruited. Most spoke about forgiveness and reconciliation, implying that Moussaoui's death would serve no purpose.
In May, Moussaoui was sentenced to life without parole spared by one juror.
Alice Hoagland, who testified for Moussaoui and whose son Mark Bingham was a United Flight 93 hero, said she was disappointed by the feds' move.
"I opposed the death penalty for Moussaoui, but I'm not opposed to it in general," she said.

Also, folks, I got a chance to listen to MSNBC about the smurf's fundraiser that was held two days ago. The smurf only raised: $100,000! But, of course, Schuster reported that Matalin said that this was an opportunity for the Libby's friends to "network" at this event and that there were there to support Libby. In plain English, he didn't get squat from the fundraiser yet they tried to exaggerate the figures on his defense fund website: 2 million. That two million was over the past year since he has been indicted.. Cayman Islands here I come: that is what the smurf's attorneys are saying to themselves. BTW, Mark Carallo was at the fundraiser. Saw that nimrod's face.. Carville was not there at the event which Matalin claims that this is "apolitical" of course. All of that KFC chicken has gone to waste!

Hmmm... Connecting the dots folks.

I read on Raw story about Abramoff's ties to the Gerbil Administration. It is with Stecen Griles who worked in the Dept. of Interior. According to Raw Story, Whistleblower described as Abramoff's 'point man' inside the Department of the Interior, Steven Griles. Who is Griles?

Griles, oversaw the Bush administration's push to open more public land to energy development." He resigned in December 2004. What is interesting is that Griles continued to receive "$284,000 a year, in addition to his Interior salary, as part of a four-year severance package from his former lobbying and consulting firm." "During his tenure at the Interior Department, Griles came under fire for contacts with his former clients. He received nearly $1.1 million from his former lobbying firm while employed with the federal government."

Griles is now a principal of the lobbying firm Lundquist, Nethercutt & Griles LLC. And who is Nethercutt and Lundquist?

On January 31, 2005, "Former Congressman of Washington George R. Nethercutt, Jr. and Griles joined The Lundquist Group, LLC founded in 2002 by former White House national energy policy director for Dick Cheney in his first term, Andrew D. Lundquist. The Lundquist Group, LLC [was] renamed Lundquist, Nethercutt & Griles, LLC. The firm is located in Washington, D.C.

Connect the dots folks!

Fatal flaws in Gov argument

There are two points which the government has admitted:

1. The FISA is real as a guiding document and statutory regime;
2. State secrets-claim does not have to be invoked, yet the court proceedings could remain secret.

Each of these points is contrary to the governments arguments. Because they have asserted an argument that is contrary to their interests, this is a fatal assertion.

Folks,

More news:

1. From Thinkprogress:

Media ignoring public opinion on Iraq.
Editor & Publisher’s Greg Mitchell: “[A]ll major polls show that the public favors withdrawals, with strong support for a timeline or total pullout within a year. … It’s one thing when polls are dismissed, ignored or twisted by political or media spinmeisters. But when journalists in their news stories do it, it is downright misleading.”

I am glad someone is taking notice of the media!

2. Looks like Ney will be slapped with obstruction of justice and lying to the investigators:

From TPMmuckraker:

Ney Lied to Senate Investigators about Meeting with Abramoff Tribe?
By Paul Kiel - June 22, 2006, 2:08 PM

According to Schwartz, Congressman Ney’s chief of staff gave Abramoff a huge bear hug. Schwartz recalled that Congressman Ney went out of his way to say he would take care of the Tigua’s problems and kept calling the Tigua “deserving.”
During his interview with Committee staff, Congressman Ney said he was not familiar with the Tigua. He could not recall ever meeting with any member of the Tigua. When asked about a possible two-hour meeting, Congressman Ney said he “wouldn’t even meet with the President for two hours.” After the interview, counsel to Congressman Ney, who was present during the interview, indicated that, according to an internal email describing Congressman Ney’s calendar for the relevant period, a meeting was scheduled in Congressman Ney’s office with the “Taqua,” from 11:00 - 11:30 a.m.

And there you have it!

These upgrades are currently only issued to the military's most elite forces and do not filter down to Reserve and National Guard forces and, unfortunately, these and the many other soldiers who make up half of the nation’s military personnel deployed in Iraq and Afghanistan are serving without the proper equipment to ensure their safety.

A brief recap: He was the only U.S. senator to vote against the Patriot Act. The only one with the guts to raise the notion of impeachment. One of the very few to have a consistent record against the war in Iraq. The only senator, it seems, who has truly earned his maverick status. On a glorious May day in Washington, the 53-year-old junior senator (and Rhodes Scholar) from Wisconsin took some time to talk about Tiger Woods, the war on terror, illegal wiretapping, bachelorhood, and Hillary’s sense of humor.

'End Times' Religious Groups Want Apocalypse Soon
From LA Times
'End times' religious groups want apocalypse sooner than later, and they're relying on high tech -- and red heifers -- to hasten its arrival.
For thousands of years, prophets have predicted the end of the world. Today, various religious groups, using the latest technology, are trying to hasten it.
Their endgame is to speed the promised arrival of a messiah.
For some Christians this means laying the groundwork for Armageddon.
With that goal in mind, mega-church pastors recently met in Inglewood to polish strategies for using global communications and aircraft to transport missionaries to fulfill the Great Commission: to make every person on Earth aware of Jesus' message. Doing so, they believe, will bring about the end, perhaps within two decades.

So, the Gerbil, thanks to his henchman, Porkrind, rides that Chitlin circuit with a bullhorn to promote family values to the red states. Folks,

I have gotten this email from John Kerry. Pretty good information:

From: John Kerry info@johnkerry.com

To: ******@****.****
Date: Thursday, June 22, 2006 1:23:42 PM
Subject:Here's How They Voted

Dear*********,

Just hours ago, the Senate voted on the Kerry-Feingold proposal to redeploy American combat troops out of Iraq by July 1, 2007. Thirteen Senators voted for it.
It was an important step towards ending the administration's aimless, open-ended course in Iraq and having Iraqis stand up for Iraq.
When Jack Murtha stepped up to the challenge of leadership in the House on Iraq, he was alone. Last week, 140 House members voted to support his leadership.
When we in the Senate began the fight to change course in Iraq, we too were almost alone. Today our numbers grew -- and that is progress you made happen.
First and foremost, Russ and I thank you for your support. Over the last few weeks, hundreds of thousands of you have joined our effort to bring our combat troops home. Once again, the johnkerry.com community has shown its deep commitment to fighting for a better course for America.
We ask you to join us now in honoring the strength and leadership of the Senators who stood with you:
Sen. Daniel Akaka (D-HI)
Sen. Barbara Boxer (D-CA), co-sponsor
Sen. Richard Durbin (D-IL)
Sen. Tom Harkin (D-IA)
Sen. Daniel Inouye (D-HI)
Sen. James Jeffords (I-VT)
Sen. Edward Kennedy (D-MA)
Sen. Frank Lautenberg (D-NJ)
Sen. Patrick Leahy (D-VT), co-sponsor
Sen. Robert Menendez (D-NJ)
Sen. Ron Wyden (D-OR)
Please call, write, or email these Senators and acknowledge their leadership on Iraq.
Let me be absolutely clear. Russ Feingold and I would have forced this vote even if the outcome were going to be 98 to 2. Ending the Bush administration's disastrous approach to this war isn't about counting votes. It isn't about legislative strategy or electoral calculation. It's about applying constant pressure to change a broken course.
It's about utterly rejecting the desperate tactics of cowardly political operatives like Karl Rove who, as John Murtha pointed out, have no qualms about telling our soldiers to "stay the course" from the comfort of their air-conditioned offices at the White House.
It's about doing what's right.
Karl Rove may worry about losing votes. It's our job to worry about young Americans losing their lives. It's our job to provide a new vision that offers real security for America while giving the Iraqis their best chance for a stable Iraq.
I will keep doing what's right on Iraq, and I won't stop until our troops are home and the future of Iraq is in the hands of the Iraqi people.
I know you'll keep working right alongside me.
Sincerely,
John Kerry

Cheney will continue to support our troops in Iraq/Afgan but he's not interested in North Korea because theres not oil. All those that voted to continue to let our troops be in harms way will have to answer to a higher power. Now it's the publics true to vote as the polls show we want our troops home we'll go to the voting polls to get it done.

Cheney says he might be a witness at Libby trial

ASSOCIATED PRESS

WASHINGTON, June 22 — Vice President Dick Cheney said Thursday he might have to testify in the CIA leak trial of his former chief of staff.
Cheney made the comment in a CNN interview, following last month's suggestion by prosecutors that the vice president would be a logical witness in the case of I. Lewis Libby, who is accused of perjury, obstruction and lying to the FBI.

Libby is ''one of the finest men I've ever known,'' Cheney said, then declined further comment. ''I may be called as a witness.''

Cheney's state of mind is directly relevant to whether Libby lied to FBI agents and a federal grand jury about how Libby learned CIA officer Valerie Plame's identity and what he later told reporters, Special Counsel Patrick Fitzgerald has said in recently filed court papers.

Libby ''shared the interests of his superior and was subject to his direction,'' the prosecutor wrote.

Fitzgerald has revealed that Cheney was upset because Plame's husband — former U.S. Ambassador Joseph Wilson — had accused the Bush administration of manipulating prewar intelligence to exaggerate the Iraqi threat from weapons of mass destruction.

The vice president, the prosecutor said, could authenticate notes he jotted on a copy of Wilson's New York Times opinion column.

In the jotted notes, the vice president speculated that Wilson's wife might have sent him on a junket to the African nation of Niger. Wilson's African trip formed the basis for his later criticism of the Bush administration.

All the Coulter talk is giving me waking nightmares. The nightmare is being in a debate with her in Chicago and it is being moderated by our fine city's grand 'ringmaster' and former politician, Jerry Springer. AAAaaaaaa!!!!

S-Q--I would be very interested in *anyone's* ideas on how to tackle poverty in this country. Could you please post a summary?

Thanks!

Make sure anyone voting against the minimum wage increase gets 'fired' in November.

Edwards is a good guy. Feingold would make a better prez, but Edwards should have a role.(poverty czar, maybe?)

Military families were on C-Span today too-I just held up the banner and kept my mouth shut- for a change ;-)

Summary of Edwards ideas but there was so much more and I will look for the transcript and see if I can find it:

*Eliminate poverty in this country within 30 years. Do this with 10 year increments.

*Revamp HUD and create one million more vouchers for HUD housing.

*Raise the minimum wage.

*Revise Bush's tax cuts for the wealthy.

*Give the poor more education opportunities.

*Give high school kids more opportunities to serve their communities.

Off the topic here...but I was wondering if anyone else here was having a hard time reading rawstory.com these days...I can't stand to look at satAnn Coulter's horse face staring back at me with that sh*t smirk of hers.

I find myself resizing my browser window, but that's becoming too annoying...maybe I will just have to ditch that web site or threaten them...what's a discerning blogger to do?

I like Edwards and Fiengold too...I think they are both sincere about their convictions. I think Edwards learned a lot about politics from the 2004 race...

Chimpcoulter,

Take a chill pill with the meds woman. I know that she is not wrap too tight! I would tell Fitz that if AssAnn Coulter ever called the DOJ office at the Dirkson Building in Chicago looking for Fitz, Fitz should call animal control tell animal control officer that a wild animal got loose in the Dirksen Building and to have the animal sedated, removed, and released in the wilderness!

9:18 PM
Blogger FBI said...

SPB -- Sedate that wild animal, please! And put a bag over head while you are at it...

Good night Justice Bloggers...

LOL SPB! Call animal control? They would need to get their rabies shots and be wearing bio-terror suits before touching that thing!

O.K. Chimpcoulter:

For you, we will have a bag over AssAnn's head when the animal control officer sedate and release her into the wilderness. Does that sound better? And maybe check for rabies..

HEY!!!! I live in the wilderness in Chicago. Don't put the Coulter Beast anywhere near me!! Using George Carlin's brilliant coinage:

NIMBY!!!!!!!!

Send her on a snipe hunt in some national park, preferably in a really, really cold one, like Denali.

Only if you say 'no' to graft. If not, the AssAnn beast will be your roommate in Chicago and that is our agreement or the deal is off! Comprende? Remember, the rugby man and I have an APB out on you! We know where you at!

Thanks for the link to the speech by Edwards. One thing I would add--life skills training for low-income folks. But it would need to be worded in a really, really polite way, so it is not demeaning. I've had almost every job under the sun, including cockroach extermination in Section 8 housing. It's not that people there were too lazy to do things, it's that some just did not understand how 'the system' works. If they had family members who did not know either, then they did not have opportunities to learn.

Come on SPB--you know that not only do I say "no way" to graft, I don't take it and I don't pay it either. ;-)

Oh, a head's up for tomorrow in Chicago. Mayor Daley is going to be mad because some home grown terrorist wannabies in Miami were talking about attacking the Sears Tower. The Mayor has been griping about not getting enough CT security measures from Homeland Security for years. That guy sent bulldozers in the middle of the night to rip apart a small airport he wanted closed down.

It's never a dull moment!

Roger--we still have paper ballots where I live. Sometimes the dead people get to vote, so we don't need any electronic stuff for the elections to be rigged. ;-) Bless the hearts of the nice poll workers who get up really early and work all day at the polls. Some of the ones in my area, however, are incompetent (lack of proper training??) and for almost every election, I've had to help them do their job and I don't know their job!

Prosecutors always have to have eyes in the back of their heads. Just checking! Try not to sleep with one eye open! Superbiloxi man is hanging up his tights for the evening. You be good, you hear? My final posting is on the the open thread that Fitz just posted.. Just some thoughts for tomorrow's discussion. Nighty Night Owl and stay out of trouble.

No hat today, I was behind the speakers, holding the backdrop banner for them. White sweater with black trim.

I'll have to watch it too- couldn't find it on their sight-brain dead from the heat! DC was HOT today

There was a decent amount of press there-but not like it was at Camp Casey last summer-they were in our face all the time. Oddly enough (and much like today's press) they were from the foreign press! Today's included French, German and Brits

Dear xxxxx,

Thank you for contacting me with your views on raising the
minimum wage. I appreciate hearing from you.

I am concerned that raising the minimum wage will have a
negative impact on those just entering the workforce. Study after
study has shown that raising the minimum wage rate does not
improve living standards or increase the spending power of
low-wage workers. In fact, mandating a higher minimum wage
will actually reduce job opportunities for minimum wage workers.
Ninety percent of economists surveyed by the American
Economics Association agreed that raising the minimum wage
increases unemployment among young and unskilled workers,
primarily teenagers and entry-level job seekers.

By creating an unwieldy burden on businesses, the increase
in wages will result in a reduced number of jobs. Therefore, a
wage hike may hurt the very people it is intended to help. For
these reasons, I oppose another increase in the minimum wage at
this time. However, I do support decreasing the tax burden for
those in lower tax brackets, effectively giving them more take
home pay.

It is important that I hear from you. Please feel free to
contact me again with comments or concerns on matters that are
important to you.

God Bless You,
?

God Bless You,

Jim Ryun

My reply from Rep. Jim Ryun of KS about raising minimum wage. Out of touch, even when he fails to tell Kansans about the "remodeling" done on his townhouse before he got that nice bargain price for structional damage. They did one helluva lot of "remodeling" in structional damage for nothing.

It is useless to petition any of the elected reps in Kansas asking for help or reform. They are all out of touch except from their rich friends, corporate greed or selfish agendas.

On another subject, note that as many as 31 Democrats in the Senate joined the Republicans and voted AGAINST immediate withdrawal from the Iraq war, i.e. "stay the course"! Pretty discouraging. I doubt that's in the interest of the people they represent.

Bluewild,

My comment about an animal was only a joke. I am sorry that you were felt offended by the comment. There are many bloggers with defferent personalities. And I know that you have a love for nature. And other bloggers have concern for other things on this blog. But words can be taken out of context and can be misread on the blog. The word animal is can be taken in different context acording to the dictionary. Yes, I do love animals. And Animals are lovely creatives on this earth. When I meant an animal, it was not meant an animal on the earth but a very irrational person. Now, when you say monster about Coulter. I don't consider her a monster. Monster can be taken in different context of the word. But, I think that people are getting a bit sensative on this blog. And this is just a blog to express one opinions. And alot of people said some pretty cruel things about Coulter that were pretty over the top on this blog. But, I am not offended bacause that it what the person feels. about Coulter. And the person that I was making the comment too understoodd what I meant.. I hope we can move on from this...
