Fitzie! You beat me to it...I was just going to post something on the WH Lawyering-Up or Harriet's up & coming competition at the WH...

Georgie still needs her to clean up his messes and bring him coffee after a binge...

My assessment is the WH needs lawyers out the wazoo to protect them for what's coming in November...

It's time to pay the piper...

G'Morning Justice Bloggers,

My favorite quote: "The lawyer I consulted opined that, 'If he does have knowledge about the leak and does not plan to disclose it, the only good legal advice would be to take the Fifth, rather than lie,'" wrote Dean.

CC- I wonder if they will have the nerve to use in their defense:
A) Bad legal advice
B) The "war" wasn't a formal declaration, therefore the crimes weren't committed in wartime

And look at their "defense team" Harriet Miers and Gonzo hahahaha-I think they have "helped" the dumya enough!

Bush,if they lose house/senate will really become inefective so the Israeli overkill and the US quickly replentishing bombs(NYT ARTICLE)and he not quickly calling for a cease fire are playing to his voters and base.

If not he is in deeP DODO-

-HERE IS THE LATEST--

""""""""""''Bush Refuses To Estimate Future Costs of Iraq War, Violating Federal Law
Congress passed a law requiring the Bush administration to estimate the future costs of the war in Iraq. Here’s an excerpt:

The President shall provide to the Congress a report detailing the estimated costs over the period from fiscal year 2006 to 2011 of Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom, or any related military operations in and around Iraq and Afghanistan, and the estimated costs of reconstruction, internal security, and related economic support to Iraq and Afghanistan… the report referenced above shall be submitted no later than January 1, 2005.

There is an exemption if the administration certifies that estimates “cannot be provided for purposes of national security.” But the President HAS NOT done that.""""""""""

He has the ABA wanting some action on the 750 or so "overides" hes done after passing bills saying so many is a no no.

He has GONZO admitting in front of the Sen Spector hearings that the President himself issued orders on the taps prior to what was said time, all the possible war crimes senarios, possible Mendacity to the country and Congress many times.

It will be quite a mess if he does not control all.

Also going in front of the NAACP to try to get their votes and then
PATTING/SLAPPING Mr Philips on the FACE--looked like "IM YOUR MASSA BOY" could not possibly help him.

3rd and last---

Consider this--election 2000 Bush runs gets in and he is just ploding along-no waves dull but good ,feeling his way, then 911 and he has a path/focus--He declares WAR and an idea/ideology.

Now he may be shrewd but he is not the smartest of people. His handlers say--you declared WAR--you can do ANYTHING-Stretch the limits--your covered under the WAR POWER ACT AND DO IT QUICKLY.You have an impregnable defense.

So here we have a person, very strong willed never vetoes(before stem cell) and goes behind people and essentialy erases what was done.........SO THEY MUST WIN NOVEMBER...........

Any way good luck "PUG" IN YOUR EFFORTS.

I see SPB is still posting along.

I hope Mr. Rove did'nt get away totally clean. His footprints are starting to show already on the fall elections.

Again Bush must be concerned as word's is he will not take his normal holiday in Texas.

Have a great day and FITZ stay above the fray.

""The issue has deep historical roots, the panel said, noting that Parliament had condemned King James II for nonenforcement of certain laws in the 17th century. Legal Group Faults Bush for Ignoring Parts of Bills

By ROBERT PEAR
Published: July 24, 2006
WASHINGTON, July 23 — The American Bar Association said Sunday that President Bush was flouting the Constitution and undermining the rule of law by claiming the power to disregard selected provisions of bills that he signed.

Doug Mills/The New York Times
President Bush signing the renewal of the USA Patriot Act. He later issued a "signing statement" saying he would disregard part of the law.
Bush’s Record: One Veto, Many No’s (July 23, 2006)In a comprehensive report, a bipartisan 11-member panel of the bar association said Mr. Bush had used such “signing statements” far more than his predecessors, raising constitutional objections to more than 800 provisions in more than 100 laws on the ground that they infringed on his prerogatives.

These broad assertions of presidential power amount to a “LINE-ITEM VETO” and improperly deprive Congress of the opportunity to override the veto, the panel said.

Michael S. Greco, the president of the bar association, who created the study panel, said its report highlighted a “THREAT to the Constitution and to the RULE of law.”

Hastert May Challenge FBI Document Search

WASHINGTON (AP) - House Speaker Dennis Hastert said Sunday he may challenge a judge's order allowing FBI agents to examine documents seized at a Louisiana congressman's Capitol Hill office in a bribery probe.

Hastert said he believed Rep. William Jefferson, D-La., was "in big trouble" and that the House would not be joining in support of Jefferson himself. But he said the House separately might seek to make clear its position that the Justice Department cannot randomly and wantonly search lawmakers' offices.

"The gentleman from Louisiana is in big trouble, as far as I'm concerned. And we're not trying to protect him," said Hastert, R-Ill.

"But there has to be a procedure for the Justice Department to come in and start just searching any congressman's office," he said. "We may take a fine line depending on how the negotiations are. There is a constitutional division there that we have to protect."

Last week, Chief U.S. District Judge Thomas F. Hogan denied Jefferson's request to delay the investigation while the congressman appeals the judge's earlier ruling that the office search was legal.

As a result of Hogan's ruling, Jefferson is seeking to bar a "filter team" of FBI agents from reviewing the seized documents pending an appeal. The filter team, which is unconnected to the prosecution team, would review records to determine if they were responsive to the items listed in a court warrant authorizing the search.

Investigators have been looking into whether the congressman promoted the sale of telecommunications equipment and services in exchange for stock and cash. Jefferson has not been charged and has denied wrongdoing.

On Sunday, Hastert said FBI agents should be able to search for documents on any criminal aspect, but that they do not have a right to "take all your records," such as confidential tax forms.

Attorney General Alberto Gonzales has directed that any review of the documents by the filter team not begin until Thursday to give judges time to consider Jefferson's call for a delay.

Hastert appeared on "Fox News Sunday."

RE: Lawsuits

I just received this email from John Conyers, Jr.:

"I wanted to update you on the lawsuit I have filed against George W. Bush and members of his administration, referred to in legal parlance as Conyers v. Bush.

You are likely familiar with a number of steps I have taken to challenge the legality and constitutional grounds of the Administration's actions. From the lead up to Iraq, to the Downing Street Minutes, to the outing of a CIA agent, to warrantless wiretapping of U.S. citizens, I have called loudly for the Bush White House to explain itself.
Donate Now and Help Me Fight Back and Work Toward a New Democratic Majority

I decided to file suit against the President in Federal Court in Michigan, along with 11 Senior Democratic Members of Congress. This suit was necessary because of a clear violation of the constitution. When the President signed the Deficit Reduction Act (which "reduced" the deficit by cutting taxes, health care benefits, and student loans), he signed into law a bill that had not passed the House and Senate. A different version of the bill passed each house of Congress with a multi-billion dollar difference in funding for life-saving medical equipment.

Anyone who ever watched Schoolhouse Rock knows this to be a problem.

Given the stakes involved I felt it was imperative to aggressively take this fight to the courts. The President's lawyers tried to get the bill dismissed, but late last week I responded with legal filings that stand up for the rule of law and the Constitution and hope to bring the President, and our United States government, back under the rule of law.

I wanted to email you this news today to update you on our efforts and to thank you for your help and support. Thank you also for your continued dedication to a better democracy."

Sincerely,

John Conyers, Jr.

Good news and bad news from rawstory.com:

Good news:

"A newspaper in Georgia has joined the tide of public sentiment against Ann Coulter and dropped her column, RAW STORY has learned.

The Augusta Chronicle of Georgia dropped Coulter's column from its editorial page last week. A Friday article from its editorial staff claimed that its editorial page "stand[s] for civility," and noted two reasons to part ways with Coulter. First, it saw "stridency" in her declaration that 9/11 widows were "witches." Second, it worried that "Coulter herself had become the issue, rather than the topics she was writing about, which is an unhealthy circumstance for a journalist, even a columnist."

Bad news:

The paper will replace Coulter with conservative columnist Michelle Malkin.

Just curious, you made the remark that Bush and Congress "will become" ineffective.

It appears that a majority of Americans at this time, are aware that Bush and Congress are morally bankrupt do-nothing idiots.

Bush is so inept he can't even see a problem and Congress is busy trying to get all the money they can for themselves that they all are kicked out of office for malfeasance.

Harriet Meiers could not make it in any type of private practice. She is simply Aunt Bea taking care of Opie and trying to keep him out of trouble.

Fortunately Opie didn't appear to have a drinking/substance problem.

They're all sick and pathetic and they are so busy doing what they are doing, they don't realize how obvious they have become.

Yes Bush needs a good lawyer maybe SPB could give the Gerbil some legal service. As it stands the lawyers like Harriet and Gonzales are helping get Bush impeached. In other words Bush has Quack lawyers now those who dress, smile and suck up but no nothing. Feingold will crush them.
I notice all the allies of Bush are now making nuclear bombs. Since Bush has been in office countries like Pakistan and India are now building WMD with the help of the Bush Administration while Bush tells the world Lebanon, Iran, Syria, Palestine and North Korea can't have weapons. The Bush plan failed and now we have world chaos with no leadership.

He tried to panhandle on the gay marriage, stem cell research, NAACP to get black votes, and so on. Everything that the Gerbil touches turns in to dust!

Yes, Jackie! I can give the Gerbil some legal advice but he would be too stupid and drunk to heed to the advice!

Oh as for the election and the GOP losing most of you know when Bush had to go so far as to ask African Americans to vote Republican things are really bad. Here in California the Spanish people are all ready to vote and Karl Rove was told that. Remember the hundereds of thousands that marched well Rove was told they all had to register to vote and the groups did this in all the states. So folks it's bad for the GOP and Bush needs the African American vote to help the GOP. You know the GOP is scared when they have to come to African Americans after 5 years of turning their nose up. And speaking for a Scrotum, I found this article from Thinkprogress on Feb. 2005 about him.. Man, we need to know what we put in office. Some of the public officials ranged from bizarre to pervertness!

In Feb. in 2005:
Santorum’s Canine Fetish

What’s with Sen. Rick Santorum’s obsession with talking about men and dogs? This morning, he’s quoted in the New York Times as saying the president is “like a pit bull and he’s got a pair of trousers in his mouth and he’s not going to let go.” It’s a weird metaphor, even before you remember his argument against allowing gays to marry. Last year, Santorum equated homosexuality with, er, an unnatural love for your pets. He said he didn’t just oppose marriage for homosexuals, he also opposed it for “you know…man on dog, or whatever the case may be.” Note to the senator — if you don’t want to end up banned from next year’s Westminster Kennel Club show, it might be time to retire the creepy dog metaphors.

Santorum slips behind in new poll; Latest polls put Democrats up two in Senate if vote held today

RAW STORY
Published: Monday July 24, 2006

According to a new poll conducted for the WALL STREET JOURNAL released late Sunday night, incumbent Pennsylvania Republican Sen. Rick Santorum (R-PA) is trailing by nine points behind Democratic contender Bob Casey, Jr.

The poll also gives more good news for Democrats -- Ohio challenger Sherrod Brown continues to poll 8.6 percent ahead of incumbent Sen. Mike Dewine (R-OH).

If the 2006 Senate elections were held today, Democrats would gain two seats, bringing their total to 46. While they would still remain in the minority, the gains could position the party stronger for legislative filibusters -- though rising Pennsylvania challenger Bob Casey holds more middling positions than many party liberals would like. Casey is pro-life.

The poll also gives good news for Democrats in the California gubernatorial race, where Democrat Phil Angelides is leading incumbent Republican governor Arnold Schwarzenegger. Angelides, however, leads by just 1.7 percentage points.

Peace prize winner 'could kill' Bush
Annabelle McDonald
25jul06

NOBEL peace laureate Betty Williams displayed a flash of her feisty Irish spirit yesterday, lashing out at US President George W.Bush during a speech to hundreds of schoolchildren.

Campaigning on the rights of young people at the Earth Dialogues forum, being held in Brisbane, Ms Williams spoke passionately about the deaths of innocent children during wartime, particularly in the Middle East, and lambasted Mr Bush.
"I have a very hard time with this word 'non-violence', because I don't believe that I am non-violent," said Ms Williams, 64.

"Right now, I would love to kill George Bush." Her young audience at the Brisbane City Hall clapped and cheered.

"I don't know how I ever got a Nobel Peace Prize, because when I see children die the anger in me is just beyond belief. It's our duty as human beings, whatever age we are, to become the protectors of human life."

Ms Williams was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize 30 years ago, when she circulated a petition to end violence in Northern Ireland after witnessing British soldiers shoot dead an IRA member who was driving a car. He veered on to the footpath, killing two children from one family instantly and fatally injuring a third.

Ms Williams's petition had tens of thousands of Protestant and Catholic women walking the streets together in protest. Now the former office receptionist heads the World Centres of Compassion for Children International, a non-profit group working to create a political voice for children.

"My job is to tell you their stories," Ms Williams said of a recent trip to Iraq.

"We went to a hospital where there were 200 children; they were beautiful, all of them, but they had cancers that the doctors couldn't even recognise. From the first Gulf War, the mothers' wombs were infected.

"As I was leaving the hospital, I said to the doctor, 'How many of these babies do you think are going to live?'

"He looked me straight in the eye and said, 'None, not one'. They needed five different kinds of medication to treat the cancers that the children had, and the embargoes laid on by the United States and the United Nations only allowed them three."

Wrapping up the three-day forum yesterday, delegates agreed to a 26-point action plan.

"There can be no sustainable peace while the majority of the world's population lives in poverty," they said.

"There can be no sustainable peace if we fail to rise to the global challenge presented by climate change.

"There can be no sustainable peace while military spending takes precedence over human development."

Friends,

Victory: DeLay's ARMPAC to shut down!

Please support CREW's ongoing efforts to hold our politicians accountable today!

When Rep. Tom DeLay (R-TX) gave up his job as House Majority Leader and left Congress, his power as a kingmaker in Washington, DC was severely diminished. But as we all know, in Washington power is largely a function of who controls campaign money and DeLay's leadership PAC, Americans for a Republican Majority Political Action Committee (ARMPAC) was one of the wealthiest and therefore most powerful PAC's in Washington.

Just as Tom DeLay's time as House Leader came to an end, ARMPAC has also come to an end.

On Wednesday, based on a complaint we filed against ARMPAC in August of 2005, the Federal Election Commission (FEC) fined ARMPAC $115,000 -- one of the top 50 fines in FEC’s history -- and ARMPAC agreed to shut down.

Tom DeLay's days as a powerbroker in Washington are over. From his role in the Jack Abramoff scandal, the violations of Texas campaign finance laws to his misuse of charitable organizations, Tom DeLay has violated the public trust for too long.

CREW, which played a significant role in DeLay’s downfall, will continue to root out corrupt politicians like DeLay and hold them accountable for their actions.

Please help us keep corrupt politicians accountable: Support CREW with a $35 donation (or more) today. Click here to donate.

We could not have achieved this victory without your support and we pledge to continue exposing officials who violate the public trust. Thank you for working with us to create a more ethical and accountable government.

Sincerely,

Melanie Sloan

Marshals: Innocent People Placed On 'Watch List' To Meet Quota

Marshals Say They Must File One Surveillance Detection Report, Or SDR, Per Month

You could be on a secret government database or watch list for simply taking a picture on an airplane. Some federal air marshals say they're reporting your actions to meet a quota, even though some top officials deny it.

The air marshals, whose identities are being concealed, told 7NEWS that they're required to submit at least one report a month. If they don't, there's no raise, no bonus, no awards and no special assignments.

"Innocent passengers are being entered into an international intelligence database as suspicious persons, acting in a suspicious manner on an aircraft ... and they did nothing wrong," said one federal air marshal.

Ms. Hemmings had a room that was linked to Mr. Jefferson's home....The Gerbil has enough acres of property that no one from the outside world will know about Shug and the Gerbil. But, I keep my eye on her whereabouts when the Gerbil is on vacation.

Israel has issued new censorship guidelines banning reporting of the "use of unique kinds of ammunition and weaponry" in Lebanon. This comes amid reports that Israel is using chemical weapons during its bombing of civilians in Lebanon. Below is the text of the guidelines, sent to international and local news organizations by the chief Israeli military censor, Colonel Sima Vaknin-Gil, on 23 July.---

Maybe those reports on WMR were not so wrong after all. The MSM sure is lobsided in their reporting.

Is the U.S. or one of those "companies" here supplying weapons to Israel? It is sickening to watch young girls sign and draw on bombs that are used to kill other young children.

Machine Vote-Flipping Claimed in McKinney Primary

(APN) ATLANTA –"You've got electronic voting machines. Many people called in and shared their concern. They pushed the button for Cynthia McKinney and Hank Johnson came up. It wasn't one time, it wasn't two times, it was many, many times," Karen Fitzpatrick, who has been monitoring elections for US Rep. McKinney's re-election campaign, told Atlanta Progressive News in an exclusive interview.

Let me repeat: The McKinney Campaign says they have documented complaints of voters here in Georgia whose votes FLIPPED BEFORE THEIR VERY EYES on Diebold machines.

"It started early this morning. There were well over 25 to 30 calls that came in [to the campaign office]. Many of them went to the poll manager [after this happened]. In some cases, the poll managers said there's nothing we can do. In some cases the voter left frustrated as if their vote had been compromised, as if it had been stolen," Fitzpatrick said.

OK, how much more do they think people will tolerate? I can tell you me pals and I will be watching OH elections very carefully!

Lou Dobbs slams Bush on signing statements

RAW STORY
Published: Monday July 24, 2006

Lou Dobbs took a critical look at President Bush's use of signing statements. An American Bar Association task force has determined that the president's use of signing statements are a violation of the Constitution. Signing statements are similar to a line-item veto which the Supreme Court said was unconstitutional.

Jackie,

I think Tony Blair is really slow but not totally stupid. Perhaps after all these years he sees Bush for what he really is after the G-8 meeting. It is about time Blair woke up from his deep slumber. I wonder how many regrets he has now.

I see Putin cut the American oil companies out of future deals and Russia will go with Norway instead. Right after Bush made that insulting crack about bringing an Iraq democracy to Russia, I told a couple of people in D.C. Putin was going to be angry and was going to do something in revenge. I bet Putin is not done either. Putin saw what kind of a mess that drunk Yeltsin caused in Russia by not paying attention. Putin will understand Bush more so than many other people.

Putin is a scary dude; one never knows what is going on in his head, but he is always thinking and processing something. He and Negroponte should have a who is spookier contest.

SPECTER MUST BE TICKED!!!!!

Specter prepping bill to sue Bush .

WASHINGTON - A powerful Republican committee chairman who has led the fight against President Bush's signing statements said Monday he would have a bill ready by the end of the week allowing Congress to sue him in federal court.

"We will submit legislation to the United States Senate which will...authorize the Congress to undertake judicial review of those signing statements with the view to having the president's acts declared unconstitutional," Judiciary Committee Chairman Arlen Specter, R-Pa., said on the Senate floor.

Specter's announcement came the same day that an American Bar Association task force concluded that by attaching conditions to legislation, the president has sidestepped his constitutional duty to either sign a bill, veto it, or take no action.

I am glad information about the eXile is getting around. They have done some pretty risky stuff over the years, including sending a correspondent in Afghanistan in the late 1990s. I don't know who claims to have invented embedded journalists with the military, but those guys did it then, with what later became known as the Northern Alliance.

Mark Ames used to work for some other ex-pat Moscow newspaper called "Living Here," which became a total TOOL for the owner and advertisers. He told them to get bent and started his own thing. Living Here ended up going belly up. ;-)
