That is good point you have there! Whether you are for, against, or skeptical about the stem cell reseach issue, the bottom line is once again, the Gerbil invading in the American people's privacy and playing God to people's decision in life. He did that with Terri Schiavo by dividing this country on the issue of the right to life when Congress, public officials, amd the Gerbil should have mind their own business. That was the Schiavo family private issue not the government! Once again, the Gerbil is clinging on to another pet project like the stem cell research to veto so that he can use that issue in the November election on the chitlin circuit to push for votes since the gay marriage ban burned in flames In Congress!

Froomkin (WaPo) is red hot today - here's a sample:

According to Hisham Milhem, Washington correspondent for the Lebanese paper Al-Nahar, there is a sense that 'America's moment in the Middle East has come to an end, or to be specific, George Bush's moment in the Middle East is over . . . and that the Americans are drowning in Iraq's quicksand, that the American project, the drive to spread democracy in the Middle East, has reached a dead end.' We're not allowed an opinion on the matter, Pat, as you know. We have to do what the Pope says, and he says it because of the insight.

Suppose one day we realize we can pharm stem cells for the purpose of enhancing one person's baby over another's? Suppose one say we realize that if that happens, why should we tolerate any birth defects?

You can make a superhuman with this research. The super genius of autism comes from a lack of normal synaptic pruning. Autistic people have more brain cells because of a reverse duplication of a BCL-2 class molecule, which is the "no-autokill" molecule.

Not that there is anything wrong with autistic people. It's the "Who's a waste" issue. The Pope does not want us deciding.

An autistic person says: A valuable person is a person who does not put himself above others, regardless of his/her talent. The value of a human is not measured in talent but in compassion.

Cuz Someone smarter than me told us this is the criteria.

An Interesting set of comments from the MSM (MSNBC) describing Herr Bush's "incoherent" stem cell policy:

Evidence that the president’s views rest firmly on a foundation of deception layered with a rich mix of confusion and inconsistency is to be found in the enthusiasm with which Britain, China, India, Israel, Australia, Russia, Sweden, Germany, Canada, the Netherlands, Singapore, Korea, South Africa, France and many other nations have launched embryonic stem cell research programs.

Napolean B,

Nice quote but during those times mistakes made by human beings where of considerable less consequence to the existence of the entire human race.

We should not forget that today one wrong decision could blow the earth out the universe - times have changed and so has our ability to do some serious damage.

Anyway I'm sure the research will continue in some secret army lab anyway.

It's not about bringing science to a complete stop but about giving certain "instiutions" an advantage over private companies who would use it for civil reasons and profit whereas Government and Military would focus on misusing it to increase their power and influence.

More from the same article:

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/13935219/from/RS.2/

The only people who continue to put faith in the policy of promoting government funding for only adult stem cell research that the president is still babbling on about are the president, his close advisors, some conservative groups motivated by deeply-held religious views concerning embryos and a few neoconservative polemicists who seem desperate to find an issue that might bring them redemption after doing such a fine job contributing to the design of American foreign policy under Bush.

3:44 PM

My own opinion: The fact that Bushie continues to defend embryonic stem cells that will be destroyed regardless, combined with his complete disregard for the thousands of DEAD "real" people in Iraq and the current "non-war" in Lebanon, certainly gives our current Jim Beam channeler the right to make decisions on "human life".

Apparently this administration is ONLY interested in blastocysts and embryos. They do not give a rats ass about human beings or human life .. once it actually is born.

With his veto the president has now reaffirmed a policy that never made any sense, garnered no scientific support to speak of, was abandoned by both houses of Congress and the leaders of his own party and, most importantly, got no traction with those most in need of the benefits of the research — patients and their families.

The president has now told doctors, researchers and patients to drop dead. Science policy in the Bush administration is best made in the White House, not by scientists and not by Congress.

Purge of the Gosslings

I'm still trying to make sense of the factional interests behind the Goss firing. But it looks like I may be too late. Ken Silverstein reports they're destroying the evidence--or at least purging the ranks.
A similar (if much less bloody) purge is now underway at the CIA, where new director Michael Hayden is systematically seeking to eliminate any evidence that his predecessor—Porter Goss, whose stewardship is widely considered to have been a disaster—ever ran the agency.
By now, most of the people Goss brought in to senior positions—a group known derisively as the Gosslings—are long gone. That includes Goss's hatchet man, chief of staff Patrick Murray, as well as several aides whose names have surfaced in connection with the Duke Cunningham scandal—most notably Kyle “Dusty” Foggo, the agency's former executive director. (Foggo's end came soon after FBI agents raided his office and home two months ago.)

U.S. - Rep. Katherine Harris acknowledged Tuesday that investigators probing a bribery scandal have sought records from her Senate campaign, but she denied suggestions by a former top adviser that she is a target of the investigation.

Still, there were indications her campaign was increasingly involved in the investigation of former defense contractor Mitchell Wade, convicted of bribing a California congressman.

Since the beginning of April, campaign finance reports show, the Harris campaign has paid $35,806 to a high-powered Washington lawyer, Benjamin L. Ginsberg, who specializes in campaign finance law. Harris retained Ginsberg, of the firm Patton Boggs LLP, shortly after she was identified as having received illegal political contributions from Wade.

Former campaign consultant Ed Rollins, who recently was interviewed by Department of Justice investigators, said Tuesday that Harris is a subject of the investigation.

"There's no question they're focusing on her," he said.

Rollins said FBI agents and two lawyers from the Defense Investigative Service quizzed him on Harris' interactions with Wade in a two-hour interview two weeks ago at the Justice Department's Public Integrity Section. That section investigates allegations of corruption.

Wade's company, MZM Inc., stood to benefit from an "earmark" spending provision Harris unsuccessfully sought to slip into military spending legislation last year.

Wade, who pleaded guilty to disguising illegal campaign contributions as donations from his employees, had dinner with Harris during which, prosecutors say, they discussed his fundraising for her and his desire for federal dollars to open an MZM-operated naval counterintelligence office in Florida.

Justice Contacted Rollins
Rollins said investigators first asked him to come to the Justice Department six weeks ago.

"They wanted to know what I knew about her and Mitch Wade," Rollins said in a telephone interview Tuesday night. "They were already extremely knowledgeable. It was not a casual conversation. They didn't seem to be shocked by anything I said."

Channing Phillips, spokesman for U.S. Attorney Kenneth L Wainstein, declined to comment on the investigation or whether Harris was a target.

Bryan Sierra, a spokesman at Justice Department headquarters, noted that the advocacy group Common Cause has filed a complaint with the department requesting an inquiry into Harris' conduct. He would not say whether such an inquiry has taken place.

Justice Department officials have been known to send "clearance letters" to public officials who are involved in investigations but are not regarded as targets of the investigations.

Neither Sierra nor Harris campaign spokeswoman Marks would say whether Harris had received one.

"The statement we've issued is all we're going to say on the topic tonight," Marks said.

Wade is expected to be sentenced later this summer for bribing Rep. Randy "Duke" Cunningham, a California Republican. Cunningham has been sentenced to seven years in prison for accepting money, antiques and other favors from Wade in return for helping to steer government defense contracts his way.

Happy Impeachment Day! 10 Reasons to Impeach

By Dave Lindorff

Happy Impeachment Day!
The Center for Constitutional Rights, which has been playing a leading role in battling the Bush administration's attacks on the Constitution, the Bill of Rights, and international law, has declared today to be Impeachment Day, with teach-ins scheduled around the country.

Seems like a great occasion to offer up 10 reasons for impeaching the president, as presented in Barbara Olshansky's and my new book The Case for Impeachment: The Legal Argument for Removing President George W. Bush from Office.

The case for impeachment just grew much stronger, with the US Supreme Court's powerful decision in Hamdan v Rumsfeld. In that decision, the justices didn't simply say that the President was wrong and in violation of U.S. and the international law in arbitrarily claiming that the Guantanamo detainees were not subject to the Geneva Convention on Treatment of Prisoners of War. The five-justice majority, which included conservative Anthony Kennedy, declared the President's bogus claim to have "special powers" as commander in chief in "time of war" to be just that--bogus.

What has been missed in almost all the mainstream media coverage of this important ruling is that this slap-down of Bush's justification for his Guantanamo decision also undermines his justification for many other of his constitutional violations.

Let's first look at the list of the president's High Crimes and Misdemeanors. They are:

1. "A Crime Against Peace." Initiating a war of aggression against a nation that posed no immediate threat to the U.S.--a war that has needlessly killed 2550 Americans and maimed and damaged over 20,000 more, while killing over 100,000 innocent Iraqi men, women and children, is the number one war crime according to the Nuremberg Charter, a document which was largely drawn up by American lawyers after World War II.

2. Lying and organizing a conspiracy to trick the American people and the U.S. Congress into approving an unnecessary and illegal war. This is defined as "A Conspiracy to Commit a Crime Against Peace" in the Nuremberg Charter, to which the U.S. is a signatory.

3. Approving and encouraging, in violation of U.S. and international law, the use of torture, kidnapping and rendering of prisoners of war captured in Iraq and Afghanistan and in the course of the so-called War on Terror. Note that the Hamdan decision actually declares Bush to have violated the Third Geneva Convention on Treatment of Prisoners of War, which means the justices are in effect calling the president a war criminal. Under U.S. and international law, if prisoners have died because of such a violation--and many have died in illegal US captivity because of torture authorized by this president--the penalty is death (a point made to the president in a warning memo written by his then White House counsel Alberto Gonzales, the text of which is published in full in the appendix of our book).

4. Illegally stripping the right of citizenship and the protections of the Constitution from American citizens, denying them the fundamental right to have their cases heard in a court, to hear the charges against them, to be judged in a public court by a jury of their peers, and to have access to a lawyer.

5. Authorizing the spying on American citizens and their communications by the National Security Agency and other U.S. police and intelligence agencies, in violation of the First and Fourth Amendments and the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA).

6. Obstructing investigation into and covering up knowledge of the deliberate exposing of the identity of a U.S. CIA undercover operative, and possibly conspiring in that initial outing itself.

7. Obstructing the investigation into the 9-11 attacks and lying to investigators from the Congress and the bi-partisan 9-11 Commission--actions that come perilously close to treason. (Former Florida Senator Bob Graham, who headed the Senate Intelligence Committee until his retirement at the end of 2002, has called this the president's most impeachable crime.)

8. Violating the due process and other constitutional rights of thousands of citizens and legal residents by rounding them up and disappearing or deporting them without hearings.

9. Abuse of power, undermining of the Constitution and violating the presidential oath of office by deliberately refusing to administer over 750 acts duly passed into law by the Congress--actions with if left unchallenged would make the Congress a vestigial body, and the president a dictator.

10. Criminal negligence in failing to provide American troops with adequate armor before sending them into a war of choice, criminal negligence in going to war against a weak, third-world nation without any planning for post war occupation and reconstruction, criminal negligence in failing to respond to a known and growing crisis in the storm-blasted city of New Orleans, and criminal negligence in failing to act, and in fact in actively obstructing efforts by other countries and American state governments, to deal with the looming crisis of global warming.

Crimes 3, 4, 5, 7, 8 and 9, and possibly crimes 1, 2 and 6 have all been justified by the president using the claim of "special powers" in his role as commander in chief, the claim that was ruled invalid by the High Court, in relation to crime number 3.

It is clearly high time for all Democrats and Republicans in Congress, and for all American citizens, whatever our politics, who care about the Constitution, American democracy, and the basic freedoms that we as a nation have assumed for over two centuries to be our birthright, to demand that this criminal usurper in the White House be called to account, along with his cronies--especially Vice President Dick Cheney, Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld, and Attorney General Alberto Gonzales.

This is no time for Democrats to be crassly analyzing the political pros and cons of impeachment as a campaign strategy, the way Democratic Party leaders have been doing. Impeachment is the patriotic duty of anyone who has sworn to protect and defend the Constitution. No member of Congress should be re-elected who doesn't support putting the president in the dock.

Here's something to think about.

It seems as though Dubya is going to fiddle and diddle (something he does well with a bottle of moonshine) for another week or so and let Israel bomb the heck out of Democratic Lebanon.
Then he's sending in SHUG to broker a cease fire.
By then he figures Hezbollah will be worn down by Israel and who cares what the collateral damage might be?

If it's true then the Gerbil is not only promiscous but he's also a bi-sexual(both ways).

Waynemadsenreport
July 19, 2006 -- The exchange overheard between George W. Bush and Tony Blair at the G8 Summit in St. Petersburg, Russia included a number of odd comments between two allegedly heterosexual male world leaders. In an addition to Bush referring to some unnamed male third party as "sweet" and Blair replying that the man was "honey," Bush also thanked Blair for a gift for his recent 60th birthday. Bush told Blair, "Thanks for the sweater . . . Awfully thoughtful of you. I know you picked it out yourself." Among many Washington observers, the "gaydar" was immediately tripped off concerning the exchange between two men who have been the subject of various media reports that they are bi-sexual.

Great post. I read about that this morning. Seems Hezbollah has more than "we" thought. Oops.

Then again, since the Hezbollah aren't embryos, we don't need to be concerned about their lives, or the Lebanese, or all those trapped Americans we can't figure out how to get out."

**On the slow evacuation of the Americans out of Lebanon, I have a source that gave two reasons:

1. The U.S. underestimated the weapons that Hezbollah has/had. Israel knew what Hezbollah had though, which is why they hammered them with weapons so strongly.

2. The ground offensive by the Israelis started earlier than they thought.

In other words, the U.S. thought this would be Israel taking a few pot shots at Hezbollah, and then be over and done with it. So, there is something else the U.S. underestimated. The U.S. did not start getting the evacuation in gear until the Israelis went in on the ground.

I read only one source that had that information, so if anyone sees similar information, post it. (Just as long as it is not from WMR, which I think stands for Wild Made-up Reports.)

"Kathleen,

About your research study on autism, I come to think that there really is no such brain disease caused by lack of oxygen to the brain.

In fact, I think this stuff they say in the medical examiners is actual horse-hockey. .."
=========

I never said anything about autism being caused by a lack of oxygen to the brain. There are three kinds of "autism":

1) encephalitis- which is just plain brain damage from infections or vaccinations of children with an immune problem and not screening them first.

2) the brain overgrowth syndrome due to a reversed-duplication of a BCL-2 class molecule.

3) Asperger's- which is the complete opposite of #2 explainer of visual-dominance. These people talk alot but have no idea what they are talking about.

I have autism. I learned what speaking was for by copying what my siblings said and watching my mother's response. I did not know that talking was for "making people work."

No one said anything about a lack of oxygen. The only place for a discussion of autism in stem cells is in the fact that we know this reversed duplication of the "no-autokill" BCL-2 class molecule renders autistic people with big heads and large brains.

You can see how stem cells would be abused to achieve excessive brain loading of one type or another. The Einstein-Autism kind would be anyone's first choice, had they the choice.

Autism has its pluses and minuses, but none who I know who have autism would want to be "normal," including myself. "Normals" do a lot of lying. Experiments to train autistic children to deceive failed.

But, they used a half dozen words (assumed) and WMR is already jumping to some conclusions. College students get points off for that kind of writing in their homework. On WMR, it's considered journalism.

P.S. I forgot the fun stuff about Hezbollah. In the report I read, it says that some of the funding for Hezbollah comes from illegal Internet sales of pseudohedrine, and Viagra. Now, if I was WMR, and making stuff up, I'd be speculating that Rush got his stash of Viagra for the Dominican run from Hezbollah. See how easy it is to make something up that sounds plausable, but not be supported by any facts?

I got this from a FL reader today-about their latest protest when Bush came to town:

Be sure to take cameras! When we rallied during a recent visit re: Medicare Part D and the prez passed by, there were automatic rifles pointing out the windows, right in our faces. It's chilling to say the least. We could see Bush's face and he was scowling at all of us -- both the peace group (even with our MFSO banner) and those protesting Medicare Part D. When reports of the rifles were posted on Daily Koz, many disputed them, saying that just couldn't happen in America.

Fortunately one of our number had a cell phone and there it was, pointed at the back on one of our folks who was one a bullhorn and who, coincidentally, is running for Congress in our district, and right in the faces of the rest of us. People just don't want to believe things are as bad as they are.

That wacko-no wonder so many cities don't want to pay his security bill for his "visits!"

I didn't know much about stem cell research until Chris Reeves explained it. The Government said it was killing human life. But the Government destroys the unused embryos. I more I read up on it the more I understand why we need the research. Bush could care less he's only playing to his base. I also notice how people change their mines when they need the cure. People hate gays until someone they love tells them their gay. I remember when the Kennedy family didn't talk about the daughter they put away, now the family does all it can to help those who are sick like their sister. Someone will find a cure and the US will be the first country to want to use it. Just think what penicillin did and if it wasn't discovered.

Normally, watching CSPAN you will often come across tidbits of good information. Through their search engines, it is possible to review the hearings especially those programs involving hearings conducted by the United States Congress. On July 5, 2006, a hearing at the border guard station in San Diego, California caught my attention. Several prominent Republicans and Democrats were on the panel concerning Border Vulnerability. They were interview panels of selected individuals including a panel of county Sheriffs who are responsible for controlling aliens once they cross the border.

On July 5, 2006 the following exchange took place between U.S. Representative William Bilbray and William Kolender, Sheriff of San Diego County. This is an 11-second transcript of that hearing including the time markers.:

2:55:56 - Rep. Bilbray: "Do you want to break the news about three law enforcement officers concerning an incident that took place about two miles from this location in the last couple of weeks?

2:56:02 Sheriff Kolender: "They were killed."

2:56:04 Rep. Bilbray: "They were not only killed, they were decapitated (Beheaded) weren't they?

2:56:07 Sheriff Kolender: "Yes!"

Damn! See? I think this could get totally out of hand. Remember what I was saying last week?

Several years ago one of my best friends brother, who was Border Patrol, was murdered!

Hello everyone!

Well, I giess I missed all the fun on the soap opera: As the Fitz Turns..

Let me see! Basheert cracked me up about her comments about the sknky ho Shug! I was on the floor! Fix her gap!!! That was too funny. OK. Basheert, let's not get nasty about Shug! Shug may have a Farragamo shoes now. But, when the Gerbil gets caught and the milk machine is unplugged, Shug will apply for welfare and food stamps. She may giving it up and doing the nasty with the Gerbil but she won't have that lifestyle if the milk machine is dismantled.

O.K. GEF! You have been looking for me this evening. Yes, I was busy today... And I am in the process of handing you, Night Owl, and Kiswrite target letters! Behave yourself tonight or I will have you arrested: butt cheeks and all! Don't mess with the Biloxi man!

Night Owl:
My first boss in law enforcement was Pierce Brooks! Following that is confidential."

The Jon Burge comment was a joke. He is a really bad man who now lives in a nice house in Florida away from all the people he hurt.
