Ambien Shortage..?

July 30, 2006

Dear Mr. President:

While the world has been focused on the crisis in the Middle East, Iraq has exploded in violence. Some 6,000 Iraqis were killed in May and June, and sectarian and insurgent violence continues to claim American and Iraqi lives at an alarming rate. In the face of this onslaught, one can only conclude that the Baghdad security plan you announced five weeks ago is in great jeopardy.

Despite the latest evidence that your Administration lacks a coherent strategy to stabilize Iraq and achieve victory, there has been virtually no diplomatic effort to resolve sectarian differences, no regional effort to establish a broader security framework, and no attempt to revive a struggling reconstruction effort. Instead, we learned of your plans to redeploy an additional 5,000 U.S. troops into an urban war zone in Baghdad. Far from implementing a comprehensive "Strategy for Victory" as you promised months ago, your Administration's strategy appears to be one of trying to avoid defeat.

Meanwhile, U.S. troops and taxpayers continue to pay a high price as your Administration searches for a policy. Over 2,500 Americans have made the ultimate sacrifice and over 18,000 others have been wounded. The Iraq war has also strained our military and constrained our ability to deal with other challenges. Readiness levels for the Army are at lows not seen since Vietnam, as virtually no active Army non-deployed combat brigade is prepared to perform its wartime missions. American taxpayers have already contributed over $300 billion and each week we stay in Iraq adds nearly $3 billion more to our record budget deficit.

In the interests of American national security, our troops, and our taxpayers, the open-ended commitment in Iraq that you have embraced cannot and should not be sustained.

Rather, we continue to believe that it is time for Iraqis to step forward and take the lead for securing and governing their own country. This is the principle enshrined in the "United States Policy in Iraq Act" enacted last year. This law declares 2006 to be a year of "significant transition to full Iraqi sovereignty, with Iraqi security forces taking the lead for the security of a free and sovereign Iraq, thereby creating the conditions for the phased redeployment of United States forces from Iraq." Regrettably, your policy seems to be moving in the opposite direction.

This legislation made clear that Iraqi political leaders must be informed that American patience, blood and treasure are not unlimited. We were disappointed that you did not convey this message to Prime Minister Maliki during his recent visit. Reducing the U.S. footprint in Iraq will not only give the Iraqis a greater incentive to take the lead for the security of their own nation, but will also allow U.S. forces to be able to respond to contingencies affecting the security of the United States elsewhere in the world.

We believe that a phased redeployment of U.S. forces from Iraq should begin before the end of 2006. U.S. forces in Iraq should transition to a more limited mission focused on counterterrorism, training and logistical support of Iraqi security forces, and force protection of U.S. personnel.

Additionally, every effort should be made to urge the Iraqis to take the steps necessary to achieve a broad-based and sustainable political settlement, including amending the constitution to achieve a fair sharing of power and resources. It is also essential to disarm the militias and ensure forces loyal to the national government. Finally, an international conference should be convened to persuade other governments to be more involved, and to secure the resources necessary to finance Iraq's reconstruction and rebuild its economy.

Mr. President, simply staying the course in Iraq is not working. We need to take a new direction. We believe these recommendations comprise an effective alternative to the current open-ended commitment which is not producing the progress in Iraq we would all like to see. Thank you for your careful consideration of these suggestions.

It should have said: "You moron! You are riding a dead horse. The course that you are taking in Iraq called the definition of insanity ain't working!" I glad that the Democrats are still holding their fights against King Gerbil. But, they are right. We need another direction in this mess. And staying the course is not the answer. The Gerbil's demeanor is certainly like the Pharoah in the bible and we know what happened to Pharoah when he didn't listen to Moses!

Rick Scrotum connects Bob Casey to wrong Al-Jazeera web site

Today's Philadelphia Inquirer is reporting that instead of linking to the Arabic television news service Al-Jazeera's web site, US Senator Rick Santorum directed viewers of a commercial to a site operated by a Georgia based group interested in "promote cross-cultural understanding between people all over the world."
The commercial, part of Santorum's reelection effort, was in reference to an endorsement of his opponent, Bob Casey Jr.
A Casey campaign spokesman told the Inquirer that "Rick Santorum has reached a new low in gutter politics by trying to ridiculously link Bob Casey to terrorists."

"We are facing international circumstances and regional challenges that require caution, alert, readiness and preparedness," Assad said.

Conyers Report on Potential Bush Crimes

The Bush administration may have broken over two dozen federal laws and regulations -- some of them multiple times -- according to an unreleased report from the House Judiciary Committee Democrats.
"The misconduct I have found is not only serious, but widespread," reads a draft summary of the report by Ranking Member John Conyers (D-MI):

The laws implicated by the Administration’s actions include federal laws against making false statements to congress [sic]; federal laws and international treaties prohibiting torture and cruel, inhuman, and degrading treatment; federal laws concerning retaliating against witnesses and other government employees; Executive Orders concerning leaking and other misuse of intelligence; federal regulations and ethical requirements governing conflicts of interest; the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act; communications privacy laws; the National Security Act; and the Fourth Amendment.

Bushie's 30% :

Bush Losing Core Supporters

WASHINGTON, May 11 – President Bush appears to be losing support among a key group of voters who had hitherto stood firmly with the president even as his poll numbers among other groups fell dramatically.

A new Gallup poll shows that, for the first time, Bush’s approval rating has fallen below 50% among total fucking morons, and now stands at 44%. This represents a dramatic drop compared to a poll taken just last December, when 62% of total fucking morons expressed support for the president and his policies.

The current poll, conducted by phone with 1,409 total fucking morons between May 4 and May 8, reveals that only 44% of those polled believe the president is doing a good job, while 27% believe he is doing a poor job and 29% don’t understand the question.

The December poll, conducted by phone with 1,530 total fucking morons, showed 62% approved of the president, 7% disapproved and 31% didn’t understand the question.

Faltering approval ratings for the president among a group once thought to be a reliable source of loyal support gives Republicans one more reason to be nervous about the upcoming mid-term elections. “If we can’t depend on the support of total fucking morons,” says Sen. Rick Santorum (R-PA), “then we’ve got a big problem. They’re a key factor in our electoral strategy, and an important part of today’s Republican coalition.”

“We’ve taken the total fucking moron vote for granted,” says Rep. Tom Feeney (R-FL), “and now we’re paying for it. We’ve let the Democrats control the debate lately, and they’ve dragged discourse back into the realm of complex, nuanced issues. So your average total fucking moron turns on his TV and sees his Republican Congressman arguing about Constitutional law or the complexities of state formation in the Middle East, and he tunes out. He wants to hear comforting, pandering, flattering bromides and he doesn’t want to hear a logical argument more complex than what you’d find on a bumper sticker.”

For Feeney, the poll is a dire warning that Republicans can ignore only at their peril. “This should send a signal that we have to regain control of the debate if we want the support of our key constituencies in the coming election and beyond. We need to bring public discourse back into the realm of stupidity and vacuity. We should be talking about homosexual illegal immigrants burning flags. We should be talking about the power of pride. We should be talking about freedom fries. These are the issues that resonate with total fucking morons.”

But some total fucking morons say it’s too late. Bill Snarpel of Enid, Oklahoma is a total fucking moron who voted for Bush in both 2000 and 2004. But he says he won’t be voting for Bush in 2008. “I don’t like it that he was going to sell our ports to the Arabs. If the Arabs own the ports then that means they’ll let all the Arabs in and then we’ll all be riding camels and wearing towels on our heads. I don’t want my children singing the Star Spangled Banner in Muslim.”

Total fucking moron Kurt Meyer of Turlock, California also says his once solid support for Bush has collapsed. “He invaded Iraq and all those soldiers died, and for what? We destroyed all their WMDs, but now their new president is making fun of us and saying he’s going to build nuclear bombs and that we can’t stop him. Well, nuclear bombs are even worse than WMDs, so what did we accomplish?”

Laura McDonald, a total fucking moron from Chandler, Arizona, says she is disappointed that the president hasn’t been a more forceful advocate of Christian values. “This country was founded on Christian values,” she says, “but you’d never know it looking around and seeing all the Mexicans running around. I thought Bush was going to bring Jesus back into the government. Instead, Christians are being persecuted worse than ever before in history, because all these Mexicans come here and tell Christians that we have to respect their religious beliefs. So now it’s illegal for children to pray in school. Soon it will be illegal for them to speak English.”

Not all total fucking morons have turned their backs on the president. Jeb Larkin of Topeka, Kansas says he still fully supports Bush. "He is doing a great job. He is a great president. He is a great decider. I have a puppy. His tail sticks straight up and you can see his butthole."

And not all Republican lawmakers are concerned about the poll. Sen. Lamar Alexander (R-TN), for one, does not find it a cause for anxiety. While he agrees that his party should not take total fucking morons for granted, they “really don’t have anywhere else to go. They’re never going to be able to understand someone like Al Gore or John Kerry or anybody intelligent and articulate who wants to talk about substantive issues. Just try having a conversation with one of them about global warming. They’ll say, ‘Oh, but Rush says volcanoes consume more ozone than humans do.’ I mean, they’re morons! Total fucking morons!”

“They’ve got nowhere else to go,” Alexander reaffirms with a smile, “and they always vote.”

Oh wonderful - now they're going to "fix" Social Security again (to take our minds off of the WARS (it is now plural)):

In an interview with the Washington Times published yesterday, House Majority Leader John Boehner (R-OH) promised to privatize Social Security:

Q: Where does Social Security reform stand?

A: I just met with Congressman [Frank R. Wolf, Virginia Republican], a few minutes ago with his SAFE Commission [formed to fix the entitlement programs]. In 1990 when I first ran for Congress, I talked about the need to reform these big entitlement programs because the sooner we began the process, the easier it would be to make the necessary changes so that these programs were sustainable for the long term. … If I’m around in a leadership role come January, we’re going to get serious about this.

Privitization plans championed by Boehner and others would sharply cut guaranteed benefits and are opposed by the overwhelming majority of Americans. Nevertheless, Boehner is just the latest prominent conservative to reaffirm his commitment to privatize Social Security in the months and years to come.

President Bush, 6/27/06:

Now is the time for the Congress and the President to work together to reform Medicare and reform Social Security so we can leave behind a solvent balance sheet for our next generation of Americans. … If we can’t get it done this year, I’m going to try next year. And if we can’t get it done next year, I’m going to try the year after that, because it is the right thing to do.

White House Chief of Staff Josh Bolten, 6/17/06:

Looking ahead to next year, he is trying to lay the groundwork for a renewed effort to reform Social Security and Medicare, the federal health-care program for seniors. He suggests Mr. Bush and his aides may have learned from their failed attempt to push through Social Security reform in 2005.

House Ways and Means Social Security Subcommittee Chairman Jim McCrery (R-LA), 6/6/06:

Congress should make Social Security overhaul its top priority next year, while a rewrite of the tax code and revamping the nation’s healthcare system probably will wait until at least 2009, House Ways and Means Social Security Subcommittee Chairman Jim McCrery, R-La., said today.

RE: Lieberman
Appears ol' Holy Joe has forgotten opening his big mouth in 1995. He is NOT black, he is white and Jewish and a Zionist Israel Firster just as an extra added attraction:

Courtesy of Firedoglake:

In a speech on the Senate floor in 1995, Mr. Lieberman said: "Affirmative action is dividing us in ways its creators could never have intended because most Americans who do support equal opportunity and are not biased don’t think it is fair to discriminate against some Americans as a way to make up for historic discrimination against other Americans…."

You were probably hoping, Senator Lieberman, that folks had forgotten about that quote from you on the floor of the United States Senate. Nope. But is affirmative action the only issue for black voters? Hell, no!

Here’s a tip: African-American voters worry about the same stuff the rest of us do because..and keep this hush hush, because clearly it is mysterious in some quarters…they are people just like the rest of us who pay bills, want their kids to get good educations, worry about their friends and relatives fighting in the FUBAR mess that is Iraq, wonder why your BFF George Bush won’t own up to any mistakes — and whether you, Joe Lieberman, have been taking lessons from him on that score…and they do not like being taken for granted until just before election day.

Frist failed to follow disclosure rules
Disclosure forms lacked listing of senator, wife as trustees

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Majority Leader Bill Frist hasn't been following all the Senate's rules when it comes to disclosing details about his finances.

Frist and his wife are the sole trustees in charge of a family foundation bearing the senator's name, according to Internal Revenue Service forms. However, he has not been listing that position on his Senate disclosure forms, which are made public every year.

Annual forms detailing lawmakers' personal finances are supposed to list all positions members of Congress hold outside government. Those include unpaid posts such as serving as a director or trustee of a nonprofit.

Folks,

Here is an update about the little soldier. Team Smurf's henchmen were in court today pleading for the memory expert to testify in the trial.

Libby wants memory expert testimony in CIA leak case

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Lawyers for former White House aide Lewis "Scooter" Libby asked a federal judge on Monday to allow a memory expert to testify in their bid to show Libby may have been confused or had a faulty memory in recalling conversations in the CIA leak case

"Mr. Libby will show that the snippets of conversation at issue in this case took place amid a rush of pressing national security matters that commanded his attention throughout his long and stressful work day," his lawyers said in a 15-page court filing.
They asked U.S. District Judge Reggie Walton to admit the expert testimony of Dr. Robert Bjork, a memory expert and a professor in the UCLA psychology department.

They said Bjork's testimony will show why these issues "could have easily caused him to confuse or misremember minor details of conversations" about Plame and her job at the CIA, topics they said Libby did not consider significant at the time.

The smurf better hope that Judge Walton allows this memory expert to testify in his dead horse case otherwise he is hosed big time!

Finally! Some legislation we can use. Thanks to Republican Senator Norm Coleman of MN and Democrat Senator Dick Durbin of IL, the Abraham Lincoln Study Abroad Program Act is now proposed as a bill. If it passes, then our college students will have better opportunities to study in foreign countries where they can learn about other people first-hand. Right now, people from other countries know more about us than we know about them. When students travel abroad, they can gain a better understanding of other people. With better understanding, better cooperation is then possible. Our future leaders will need to know more about other countries. Anyone involved with business needs to know more, too. The first-hand experience is almost always better than reading about it in a book. This proposed bill would open more doors for more college students. Having the opportunity of a lifetime should not just be for the rich kids in college.

Other comical notes-look what Newt said:

Paying for Iranian Aggression -- at the Pump

Here is something else that is bothering Americans I spoke to: high gas prices and the notion that our enemies are profiting from the higher prices we pay at the pump.

Think about it. On July 11, the price of a barrel of crude oil was $74.16. That was the day before Hezbollah kidnapped two Israeli soldiers, which sparked the latest fighting in Lebanon.

Three days later, after the fighting began, the price of a barrel of oil was $77.03. That's a $2.87 increase.

Now, Iran exports 2.7 million barrels of oil a day. That means if the price of oil stays the same, that $2.87 increase will amount to almost $3 billion more a year for the Iranian dictatorship.

That's $3 billion more to spend on rockets for Hezbollah, militias in Iraq and on their nuclear program. Which, by the way, nobody is paying attention to now because of the fighting in Lebanon that Iran almost certainly instigated.

So the dictator of Iran is getting the best of both worlds: He gets to attack Israel by funding Hezbollah, and he gets to make all his money back -- and then some -- from our pocketbooks.

Feds appeal loss in NSA wiretap case

update The Bush administration has asked a federal appeals court to halt a lawsuit alleging AT&T illegally opened its communication networks to surveillance by the National Security Agency.

Permitting the lawsuit to proceed would endanger national security and possibly expose classified information, the U.S. Department of Justice said in a legal brief filed on Monday.

It also nominated Laurence Silberman, a federal appeals court judge in Washington, D.C., to serve as an expert in this case. A former deputy attorney general, Silberman was appointed by President Reagan and serves on the secretive Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court of Review.

The brief is a response to a July 20 ruling by U.S. District Judge Vaughn Walker in San Francisco, who surprised lawsuit watchers by saying there are "sufficient" grounds to let the lawsuit continue.

Koreas exchange fire along DMZ

SEOUL, Aug. 1 (Yonhap) -- Border guards of the two Koreas briefly traded fire Monday but there were no South Korean casualties, Seoul's Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS) said Tuesday.

The shootout occurred around 7:35 p.m. in Yanggu in the eastern portion of the demilitarized zone (DMZ), as North Korean soldiers fired two bullets towards a South Korean guard post, said a JCS official.

South Korean soldiers immediately fired back six rounds but there was no response, the official said, requesting anonymity.

"According to our rules of engagement on GOPs (general outposts), we should return fire if North Korea makes provocative acts," he said.

One of the two North Korean bullets hit a South Korean guard post inside the DMZ, but it didn't kill or injure South Korean soldiers, JCS officials said. The other North Korean bullet fell near the guard post, they said.

Final posting:

Be careful what you say because it can come back abd bite you. This is in the case of Senator Burns.
Ths is a opinion article that was written about Burn's lashing out to the firefighters.

Sen. Burns misrepresented Montanans

SUMMARY: We depend on and appreciate firefighters. They deserve thanks, not a senator's scorn.

Burns issued a boilerplate written apology days later, but only after learning an especially inflammatory, unvarnished version of his remarks chronicled by a state DNRC official were about to hit the press and after it became all too apparent that the scandal-plagued senator had further harmed his campaign for re-election to a fourth term in November.

Burns is in the midst of the toughest fight of his political life. It won't be surprising if this incident proves to be the self-inflicted knockout blow. Burns badly misrepresented the people who elected him when he administered his tongue-lashing in Billings. Burns desperately campaigns for re-election as a pork-barreler of the first order, someone who delivers for Montana. What he's delivered in this case is more embarrassment.

Montanans depend on and greatly appreciate firefighters for all they do, including the risks they take on our behalf. Without the resources to handle the largest fires on our own, we've often turned to crews coming in from other states and countries in our hours of need. They leave their families and communities and risk their lives to serve us. They deserve nothing less than our heartfelt thanks, not scorn.

Good night! Signing off! Biloxi out!

Regardless of how he attempts to present himself, he is still an ignorant ass and would NEVER stoop to having a black girl on the side.

No, I think he's much more into the whole "idol worshipping" thing that she does. She probably props up his illness - it's called being an "enabler".

And yes, he is undoubtedly drinking again - and mixing it with coke no doubt. NO one slurs it like he does...24/7.

I agree that the Gerbil is looking about for the Gerbil. And as far as the Gerbil not stooping down to having a black girl on the side.. You have to remember that the Gerbil family are into money, decorum, legacy, class, and reputation.. As far as the black and white issue with Shrub and Shug, Shug is from a poor background in Alabama. But, if Shug came from Aristocratic background, she would be considered to the Bushes as "acceptable." Remember, Jeb married outside his race.. The Bushes all look at class and aristicraitc. And no matter how much talent, intelligence, and education that Shug has, to the daddy, she will never be on the scale of the Bush dynasty according to Daddy Bush, Farrahamo shoes and all.. She is just a shag to the Gerbil. Hate to say it! We will all see what happens to Shug when she is no longer Secretary of State after her lover is dethroned from the WH throne!
