Let's not forget other newspapers like LA Times that spoke the truth. Also, blog sites and journalists like FDL, Truthout.org, Jason Leopold, Raw Story, and others deserves a medal too. But, it is time for the American people who ask tough questions and challenge the lame duck Gerbil President that had crawled his ass into the WH and on the throne from two stolen Presidential elections!

Yes, that is a good question since King Gerbil feels that he has to right to change article 2 of the Constitution and the Founding Fathers' words from the Constitution. King Gerbil's actions and demeanor is no different from King George III, and dictators of the world. The Gerbil doesn't understand the difference between a terrorist and a patriot. A terrorist takes his or her life or someone's life for a cause and a patriot serves others and gives his or her life to save another and has a great appreciation and love for his or her country and what the Founding Fathers created for this country.

Do some of these (misused)"causes" and "entities" come to mind? God? Allah? Freedom? (What about NASA? - it's "cause" much different than terrorism. Does it's "cause" "justify" it's odds? - 1 to 100 - for dieing?)

It listed three methods: "Media operations," "Special Ops (626)" (a reference to Task Force 626, an elite U.S. military unit assigned primarily to hunt in Iraq for senior officials in Hussein's government) and "PSYOP," the U.S. military term for propaganda work..." An internal document produced by U.S. military headquarters in Iraq, states that "the Zarqawi PSYOP program is the most successful information campaign to date." (WP, op cit).

It amazes me that so many take glee in their morbid belief that we are losing the war on Terror. If the likes of John Kerry had their way it would definitely be a defeat. That is why it is important that the Democrats don't get control again. Losing the War on Terror is not an option.
GAZA (Reuters) - A spokesman for gunmen in the Gaza Strip said they had fired a rocket tipped with a chemical warhead at Israel early on Thursday.
The Israeli army had no immediate comment on the claim by the spokesman from the al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades, an armed wing of Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas's Fatah movement.
The group had recently claimed to possess about 20 biological warheads for the makeshift rockets commonly fired from Gaza at Israeli towns. This was the first time the group had claimed firing such a rocket.
"The al-Aqsa Brigades have fired one rocket with a chemical warhead" at southern Israel, Abu Qusai, a spokesman for the group, said in Gaza.
An Israeli military spokeswoman said the army had not detected that any such rocket was fired, nor was there any report of such a weapon hitting Israel.

GAZA CITY, Gaza Strip (AP) - Israeli troops rounded up dozens of ministers and lawmakers from the Palestinians' ruling Hamas party Thursday while forging ahead with a military campaign in Gaza meant to win the release of an Israeli soldier held by Hamas gunmen.
The body of a kidnapped 18-year-old Jewish settler was found in the West Bank, Israeli security officials said. He had been shot in the head. Palestinian militants said they killed Eliahu Asheri, whose body was found buried near the West Bank city of Ramallah.
Israeli aircraft hit a car carrying Palestinian militants in Gaza City, the Israeli military said. One person was wounded, hospital officials said.
On Wednesday, Israeli warplanes also buzzed the summer home of Syria's president, Bashar Assad, who harbors the hard-line Hamas leaders who Israel says ordered the kidnapping.

The case, one of the most significant involving presidential war powers cases since World War II, was brought by Guantanamo prisoner Salim Ahmed Hamdan, who was a driver for Osama bin Laden in Afghanistan...
Of about 450 prisoners at Guantanamo, only Hamdan and nine others face charges before a tribunal. Human rights groups have criticized the tribunals, formally called military commissions, for being fundamentally unfair.
...The ruling only addressed the military tribunals, not broader issues such as whether the base should be closed.

I feel very disturbed about the upcoming Navy sonar exercise off the Hawaiiian Islands when they will blast the area with high-intensity sonar that may kill whales and dolphins. They say the sonar power will be reduced if marine mammals are spotted within a certain distance, but what about the mammals that are not visible? And all in the name of "national security". Roger G. WMR has learned that pre-cursor and recombinant chemicals used in Iraqi WMDs were provided by a Texas petrochemical company and a chemical/biological toxin firm in which George H. W. Bush held and continues to hold a financial stake."
"In April 2003, counter-intelligence personnel with the 223rd Military Intelligence Battalion, California Army National Guard, discovered, with the help of an Iraqi Air Force Chief Warrant Officer, aerial bombs specially configured for delivering chemical and biological weapons. As you are aware, Mr. Brent Scowcroft and Mr. Lawrence Eagleburger were high ranking officials of Kissinger Associates- Mr. Scowcroft as Vice Chairman and Mr. Eagleburger as President. Kissinger Associates represents many large multinational companies involved in various aspects of international trade, including the arms business. Since these firms sell their wares worldwide, they often are the beneficiaries of U.S. policy towards foreign countries. I am deeply concerned over the potential influence Mr. Kissinger may exert over the decisions and actions of Mr. Scowcroft and Mr. Eagleburger, and am especially troubled by a potential conflict of interest involving Mr. Scowcroft.
The NationaI Security Advisor is in a position to strongly influence our national security and foreign policies, including the U.S. export licensing process. These policies often have a direct influence on individual corporations doing business abroad. Until October 4,1990, Mr. Scowcroft owned stock in approximately 40 U.S. corporations. many of which were doing busies in Iraq. Those companies received more than one out of every eight U.S. export licenses for exports to Iraq. Several of the companies were also clients of Kissinger Associates while Mr. Scowcroft was Vice Chairman of that firm.
Mr. Scowcroft's stock holding, particularly in corporations that are clients of Kissinger Associates, present the potential for serious conflicts of interest and cause one to question whether or not his decisions as National Security Advisor are completely disassociated from the interests of his former boss and longtime colleague.
Mr. Eagleburger, the current Deputy Secretary of State, as well as Mr. Scowcroft, may also be involved in a conflict of interest related to their role in promoting military sales abroad. The Legal Times recently reported that Mr. Eagleburger and Mr. Scowcroft (a lifelong Air Force Officer) are strong advocates of using $1 billion in Export-Import Bank resources to finance the sale of U.S. military articles overseas. The Legal Times also
reported that Mr. Eagleburger actually sent a classified memorandum to all U.S. Embassies urging that U.S. defense firms be given more help selling weapons abroad. Many corporations, including Mr. Eagleburger's past employer, the ITT Corporation, stand to benefit if the U.S. foreign service is forced to take a greater role in selling U.S. military articles abroad. For your information, I have attached a copy of the Legal Times
article referring to Mr. Eagleburger's and Mr. Scowcroft's roles in expanding military sales abroad. I am concerned that their attempts to use the foreign service and the Export-Import Bank to assist corporations in financing military sales abroad may have been prejudiced by their past associations.
Mr. Scowcroft's and Mr. Eagleburger's actions seem out of step at a time when the U.S. should be leading a worldwide effort to limit arms proliferation. The positions held by these men are of the utmost importance to the national security of the United States. Persons filling such important positions must be independent from past associations which
could cloud their judgment.
I trust you will consider the issues I have raised in this letter and, if necessary, take appropriate action to ensure that potential conflicts are eliminated.Thank you for your time and consideration. With best wishes.

San Francisco talk show host Melanie Morgan believes that Times editor Bill Keller should be jailed for treason for approving the publication.
The maximum penalty for treason is death.

MOSCOW - Intentionally or not, the Russians fed out audio of Thursday’s closed lunch meeting between Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice and Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, revealing a fractious exchange over the wording of an official Group of Eight statement on Iraq.
The feed provided a rare behind-the-scenes glimpse at the tense relationship during what Rice and Lavrov had believed was a private conversation. Throughout the meeting, the two officials argue and interrupt each other.
In the transcript of the meeting, Rice repeatedly interrupts Lavrov, particularly objecting to his proposal that the statement criticize the Iraq government for not adequately protecting diplomats.
At one point Rice tells the Russian official: “You know, on a fairly daily basis we lose soldiers and I think it would be offensive to suggest that these efforts are not being made. … We are making those efforts and we are making them at quite a sacrifice. ... The problem isn’t diplomatic missions. The problem is journalists and civilian contractors and, yes, diplomats as well.
“The problem is you have a terrorist insurgent population that is wreaking havoc on a hapless Iraqi civilian population that is trying to fight back and on a coalition force that is trying to fight back and the implication that by somehow declaring that diplomats need to be protected it will get better I think is simply not right.”
At that point Lavrov tries to interject — and Rice cuts him off:
“I understand that in the wake of the brutal murder of your diplomats that it is a sensitive time, but I think that we can’t imply that this is an isolated problem or that it isn’t being addressed,” Rice said.

Riding the wave of mass consciousness
It occurred to me how much we can learn by observing the global media. They are riding the wave of mass consciousness by publishing stories which trigger our emotions and focus them into their agendas thus making them real, a direct way of using our creative energy by indirect twisted manipulation. We all see it happen over and over again.
Now let us turn the focus around into the right direction.
Last year I experienced the gathering of 1.2 million people during the World Youth Day hosted by the Catholic Church in Germany. It was overwhelming to witness the intensity of so many people being focussed in their hearts and spirit, joyfully celebrating their oneness. I could so strongly feel the new consciousness arising. When the pope was giving his speech, his words were a thin layer of empty rhetorics on top of a directly tangible wave full of energy and deep silence underneath. No wonder all the leaders throughout history have used this power. They live from it.
Again we are in the middle of a big mass event in Germany, the world soccer championship and again people are celebrating together often beyond the competition of their nations.The new spirit is here again.
My sugestion now is to use this immense energy by enhancing the growing spirit of oneness and celebation. Let us focus our minds and feelings by feeding our heartfelt visualisation of one world living in freedom, peace and harmony into this collective energy field. Let us all feel the tremendous joy of liberation and celebration, this real new world already existing.
Whenever we hear, read or watch TV we can activate this new vision. It doesn't need to be for a long time, just the intense feeling in it makes it real. It would be good to surf on this mass energy during the soccer matches, especially the final.

Yes, Thomas was propped as a Supreme Court judge as a token for the Gerbil to praise that he has a minority in the Supreme Court. But, it is truly disappointed to see that he has done nothing in the Supreme Court ever since he was appointed in 1991.
As you mention Condi, she is also another token like Thomas. And we know that Cheney was doing her two jobs in the WH. But, her exchange with the Russian Foreign Leader is telling folks that she is not a well polish spokeswoman in the Gerbil Administration. She may have all the credentials for education but she certainly lacks in the relationship building skills and is reflecting herself as an argumentive representative of the WH. Chávez: They have interfered for 200 years. But here the empire is finished, and I believe that before the end of this century, it will be finished in the rest of the world. We will see the burial of the empire of the eagle.
Q: Why did George Bush turn down your help for New Orleans after the hurricane?
Chávez: You should ask him, but from the very beginning of the terrible disaster of Katrina, our people in the U.S., like the president of CITGO, went to New Orleans to rescue people. Berkeley is hoping it will spark a national debate on the presidency and the Constitution and have other states follow the same footsteps. Of course, Berkeley cannot impeach the Gerbil and Cheney. But, this is first city and state to have this on November ballot. This will draw national attention. Keep in mind that in the 2004 presidential election, more than 85 percent of the electorate voted for John Kerry in that area!
The Berkeley organization are represent a coalition of students and young people dedicated to defending the Constitution and its Bill of Rights. But, nevertheless, this may be the first and only expression by popular vote of the desire to impeach the Gerbil and Cheney. Seems like the youth of taking action to take back their country!
What a surprise? Berkeley wants to impeach Bush. Who would have thunk it? If I know my history, Berkeley has never impeached a President. Go Figure.

MONTGOMERY, Alabama (AP) -- Former Gov. Don Siegelman and former HealthSouth chief executive Richard Scrushy were convicted Thursday in a bribery scheme that derailed Siegelman's campaign to retake his former office.
Siegelman, 60, was accused of trading government favors for campaign donations when he was governor from 1999 to 2003 and lieutenant governor from 1995 to 1999.
Scrushy, who once ran the Birmingham-based rehabilitation chain, was accused of arranging $500,000 in donations to Siegelman's campaign for a state lottery in exchange for a seat on a state hospital regulatory board.
The case was tried as Siegelman sought the Democratic nomination for governor, and the trial put him in court during the final weeks of the campaign. He lost to Lt. Gov. Lucy Baxley in the June 6 Democratic primary and blamed the charges for his defeat.
Well, Richard Scrushy got finally nailed! That's good news!

Los Angeles, CA - AT&T has paid the United States $2,946,000 to resolve allegations outlined in a "whistleblower" lawsuit that it committed fraud against federal agencies that used the company’s telephone services.
The settlement resolves a lawsuit filed under seal in February 2004. The seal was lifted on June 7, and AT&T paid the settlement amount today. The payment was made by AT&T Communications-East, Inc., a subsidiary of AT&T Corp.
The complaint alleged AT&T defrauded the government from December 1998 through December 2001 by knowingly overcharging the government for costs and fees for "presubscribed interexchange carrier charges." The lawsuit alleged that AT&T submitted bills that were for more than the actual costs and fees that the company paid to local telephone companies for access to their phone lines.

I'm sure that a fews days of reflection will yield additional insights about the various opinions issued today by the Supreme Court in the Hamdan v. Rumsfeld case. The opinions cover a LOT of ground. Some initial thoughts. First, the majority opinion by Stevens dodges the key Constitutional issues lurking in the background-- most of the issues are decided based on the interpretation of statutes and treaties, with a notable exception being the refusal of the majority to abstain. This virtually guarantees that there will be a further round of litigation if Congress changes the statutory status quo (as I expect them to do). The remaining detainees in Gitmo are likely to sit there for a long time while this extended battle goes on in the courts.
Second, the narrow interpretation of the AUMF (the Joint Resolution) by the majority is an important step towards intellectual honesty and a crucial blow to those who argue the AUMF authorizes the President to do everything from warrantless wiretapping to who knows what in the name of "fighting terrorism." This is one of the more important holdings of the majority.
Third, the majority clearly sends the message that, where the boundary between the Executive and Legislative powers under the Constitution is not entirely clear, the Court is much more likely to defer to the Executive where the Executive and Legislative branches have reached an agreement on how to draw those boundaries. Breyer's opinion concurring with the majority invites Congress to take action.
Fourth, the Geneva Conventions really have teeth. The Supreme Court's jurisprudence on treaties over the years has been, well, a bit "kinky." To get an idea of what I mean, go to the SCOTUS website and read the opinion issued yesterday in Sanchez-Llamas v. Oregon dealing with the Vienna Convention on Consular Relations. Compare what happened there with what happened in Hamdan. While Stevens avoids any "in your face" rhetoric, his opinion is a clear rebuke to the fascistic, intellectually dishonest government employees (Cheney/Rumsfeld/Gonalez on down the food chain) who concluded that the Geneva Conventions are "quaint" (implying that the US no longer needs to comply with them).
FIfth, there is a lot written between the lines of the majority opinion. The discussions of the Nurenberg proceedings, the discussion of the Yamashita case, the mention of the fact that military leaders can be tried for war crimes if they fail to prevent those under them from committing atrocities, etc. all have multiple unwritten overtones. Portions of the discussion could at some point in the future be deemed to have laid the groundwork for war crimes trials of high level Bush administration officials and high level US military officials for abuses committed in Gitmo, Abu Ghraib, and elsewhere (assuming PJF doesn't put their butts in jail first). Stevens did a masterful job of condemning what the Bush administration did without using partisan rhetoric.
Sixth-- The failure of the majority to defer to the executive is remarkable, a true sign that they very much believe that Bush has gone way over the line.
Finally, as to the dissents, I did not give them the scrutiny yet that I gave the majority and concurring opinions. But I will say this: Thomas' opinion may be the worst piece of intellectually dishonest, fascist claptrap that I have seen written by a Supreme Court justice in the last 100+ years. I need to read it more carefully to confirm my initial reaction. And Alito comments that he sees "no justification for striking down the entire commission struction simply because it is possible that Petitioner's might involve the use of some procedure that is imroper." Huh? Does he really mean that Hamdan's inability to attend his own trial is permissible? If you read the trial procedures that are described by Stevens, they sound a lot like the trial procedures used by Joseph Stalin and Vladimir Lenin. Even the opening part of Stevens' opinion sounds like a Franz Kafka novel. Are we no better than Joseph Stalin? Have we sunk so low that we have to rig the trials so that it is impossible for any defendant to win?
Remember, the majority opinion did not question the right of Bush to hold Hamdan as a POW until the end of hostilities. But Bush refuses to state that Hamdan is a POW because POW status triggers rights under the Geneva Convention. This case was not about POWs.
And the majority did not in any way limit the ability of the military to act in a "pragmatic" way in holding military trials on or near the battlefield. This case was not about "battlefield" trials.
This case is about the procedures to be followed in certain types of military trials that are held thousands of miles away from the battlefield.
Everyone wants those who are guilty of crimes to be appropriately punished. But everyone should also want the procedures used in those trials to be such that, if they were the ones being charged, and such charges were unfounded, there would be a realistic possibility of acquittal.
When one stands up in court and represents the government, one is sometimes tempted to tell the judge: "You can believe me, because I never lie, and I am always right." Sadly, the dissenters in Hamdan (and, I suspect, CJ Roberts) would nod their head in agreement anytime a government attorney made such a statement.

This was fun to watch, but so true, so true! Schwarzenegger appoints controversial conservatives to education coalition
Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger has named Ron Nehring and Jim Kelly, two members of the controversy-plagued Grossmont Union High School District (GUHSD) board in San Diego county, as co-chairs of the Governor’s education coalition.
The move has sparked an angry response from teacher’s union representative Bruce Seaman, president of the Grossmont Education Association.
“Ron Nehring is working for Grover Norquist’s organization, Americans for Tax Reform (ATR).” Noting that Norquist has stated he wants to reduce the size of government in order to “drown it in a bathtub,” Seaman added, “His second agenda is to eliminate public education and go to vouchers. Certainly Nehring can in no way be looked at as a friend of public education.”
Nehring, chair of the San Diego Republican Party and vice-chair of the California Republican Party, was appointed to the Grossmont Union High School District board to fill a vacancy. Nehring worked for ATR in 2000 when the organization reportedly laundered money for Jack Abramoff .

BAGHDAD, Iraq (AP) - Eleven Sunni insurgent groups have offered an immediate halt to all attacks - including those on American troops - if the United States agrees to withdraw foreign forces from Iraq in two years, insurgent and government officials told The Associated Press on Wednesday.
Withdrawal is the centerpiece of a set of demands from the groups, which operate north of Baghdad in the heavily Sunni Arab provinces of Salahuddin and Diyala. Although much of the fighting has been to the west, those provinces are increasingly violent and attacks there have crippled oil and commerce routes.
The groups who've made contact have largely shunned attacks on Iraqi civilians, focusing instead on the U.S.-led coalition forces. Their offer coincides with Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki's decision to reach out to the Sunni insurgency with a reconciliation plan that includes an amnesty for fighters.
The Islamic Army in Iraq, Muhammad Army and the Mujahedeen Shura Council - the umbrella group that covers eight militant groups including al-Qaida in Iraq - were not party to any offers to the government.
Naseer al-Ani, a Sunni Arab politician and official with the largest Sunni political group, the Iraqi Islamic Party, said that al-Maliki should encourage the process by guaranteeing security for those making the offer and not immediately reject their demands.
``The government should prove its goodwill and not establish red lines,'' al-Ani said. ``If the initiative is implemented in a good way, 70 percent of the insurgent groups will respond positively.''
Al-Maliki, in televised remarks Wednesday, did not issue an outright rejection of the timetable demand. But he said it was unrealistic, because he could not be certain when the Iraqi army and police would be strong enough to make a foreign presence unnecessary for Iraq's security.
In Washington, Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld said that President Bush's ``view has been and remains that a timetable is not something that is useful. It is a signal to the enemies that all you have to do is just wait and it's yours.
``The goal is not to trade something off for something else to make somebody happy, the goal is to succeed,'' he said.
Bush has said U.S. troops will remain in Iraq for years to guarantee the success of the new Iraqi government. However, American military officials have said substantial reductions of the current force of 127,000 U.S. troops could be made before the end of 2007.
Eight of the 11 insurgent groups banded together to approach al-Maliki's government under The 1920 Revolution Brigade, which has claimed credit for killing U.S. troops in the past. All 11, working through intermediaries, have issued identical demands, according to insurgent spokesmen and government officials.
The officials spoke on condition of anomymity because of the sensitivity of the information and for fear of retribution.
The total number of insurgents is not known, nor how many men belong to each group. But there are believed to be about two dozen insurgent organizations in Iraq, so the 11 contacting the government could represent a substantial part of the Sunni-led insurgency.
Al-Maliki's offer of amnesty for insurgents would not absolve those who have killed Iraqis or American coalition troops. But proving which individuals have carried out fatal attacks would, in many - if not most - cases, be a difficult task.
The issue is extremely sensitive in the United States, which has lost more than 2,500 uniformed men and women in Iraq, many to the insurgents' bombs and ambushes.
Coinciding with al-Maliki's attempts to bring Sunni Arabs to the bargaining table, U.S. Ambassador Zalmay Khalilzad held talks Tuesday in Saudi Arabia with King Abdullah. The Saudis have influence with many Sunni insurgents in Iraq.
Al-Maliki also set up an e-mail account to communicate with insurgents, flashing the address on the screen during a broadcast Sunday night.
For al-Maliki, reaching out to the Sunnis risks heightening tensions in his ruling coalition of mostly Shiite Muslim political groups. Al-Maliki is said to be increasingly disenchanted with the close ties between the country's most powerful Shiite organization and Iran, which is ruled by a Shiite theocracy.
Abdul Aziz al-Hakim, leader of the Supreme Council for the Islamic Revolution in Iraq, a Shiite group with historic ties to the Iranians, favors close relations with Iran. Many of Iraq's most powerful Shiite politicians and religious figures spent years in Iranian exile during Saddam Hussein's regime.
In addition to the withdrawal timetable, the Iraqi insurgents have demanded:
- An end to U.S. and Iraqi military operations against insurgent forces.
- Compensation for Iraqis killed by U.S. and government forces and reimbursement for property damage.
- An end to the ban on army officers from Saddam's regime in the Iraqi military.
- An end to the government ban on former members of the Baath Party - which ruled the country under Saddam.
- The release of insurgent detainees.
The 1920 Revolution Brigades, the umbrella for seven other groups, was established in the so-called Sunni Triangle north and west of Baghdad shortly after the 2003 U.S.-led invasion. Its name refers to Iraq's historical fight against British colonialism.
The group has claimed responsibility for attacking American troops, including the downing of two helicopters in 2004.
``If they set a two-year timetable for the withdrawal we will stop all our operations immediately,'' said the leader in a telephone interview with the AP. The man, who refused to give his name for security reasons, spoke from the telephone of one of the mediators. Others present made similar remarks.
Besides the 1920 Revolution Brigades, the eight include Abtal al-Iraq (Heroes of Iraq), the 9th of April Group, al-Fateh Brigades, al-Mukhtar Brigades, Salahuddin Brigades, Mujahedeen Army and the Brigades of the General Command of the Armed Forces. The three other groups are small organizations that also mainly operate in areas north of Baghdad.
Bush&Rice&Cheney&Rumsfeld, in not negotiating this, have put troops further in harm's way.

It is not necessarily a conspiracy or that someone told them to take their stuff down. It is a way to attract people to visit their stuff several times a day (i.e. a marketing technique).
I bet Bush & Co. does not care about the Iraqi offer, but geez, they should consider it. The Russians just proved Rice is out of it and unprofessional. Now the Iraqi groups can show that Bush & Co. are just a bunch of war mongers. I know they are not going to consider the offer.

That should get everyone fired up against the NYT, when looking up NASA and the launch, I seen on a blog where certain (right-wing) groups will be protesting the paper over the Holiday. I wonder how those kind of protesters are treated compared to anti-war ones?
I was looking up the launch because I read somewhere that it might be used as a distraction or (even worse) along the southern coast where all those oil refineries are located---Deer Park (sp)?, Texas City....British Petro by our favorite evil-doers themselves.
