Factual, incriminating...

Yet some watchdog organizations have said Hastert deserves scrutiny. After all, they note, Hastert signed a letter to the interior secretary in 2003 on behalf of one of Abramoff's Indian tribe clients days after a fundraiser for Hastert at Abramoff's posh Washington restaurant, Signatures. Fred Wertheimer, president of the watchdog group Democracy 21, said that the same easygoing personality and small-town attitude that Hastert has used to maintain the loyalty of colleagues have enabled him to skate through the unfolding scandal.

oh yeah right -

let's see now, you spend months on a GJ - you issue an indictment based on a Prosecutor's presentation of evidence and review of testimony, the AG comes in and tries to quash the indictment and NOT ONE JUROR GOES PUBLIC?

There's way too good a high dollar story in that theory.

Doubtful that Gonzales could quash an indictment like this. He's too busy trying to explain why his parents are or are not illegals.

Gotta say that, if the AG did try to short circuit the lights on the Fitzmas tree, things are gonna get much more difficult for the chimp in chief once word gets out. Chimp in chief also sure knows how to drum up ill will with Congress, especially now that he wants to take them to the Lubyanka for questioning about "disclosures" they may have made. And the search of Congressional offices by FBI finally got Congress to discover the Constitution.

Did you know that there are two different ways to spell the AG's name: 1) L-A-C-K-E-Y, and 2) S-Y-N-C-O-P-H-A-N-T

This particular AG is so caught up in Bushland that he's lost sight of who and what he is, or his actual true function with regard to the Law.
Mr. Gonzales is a shameful, horrible man - and nothing more than a token Hispanic, just like Condi is a token Black in this Administration.

These people represent the absolute WORST indication of how our President thinks. He hired based only on color and not on any type of qualification. Yes-people was what he was looking for, and yes-people was who he hired.

CYA is right.

Pendulums are peculiar creatures, they swing very far to the right and then very far to the left. Nature constantly looks for some type of middle ground.

I choose to believe that many people find Mr. Gonzales personal love and admiration for human torture repugnant. Any human being who spends the amount of time he has justifying the torturous treatment of other human beings is a sick individual with no soul.

Personally I believe that Mr. Gonzales is one of the WORST examples of Bushworld's thought processes. Although many of Bush's choices are pretty lowbrow, Gonzales sinks even lower.

This Administration has taken on the embodiment of true evil.

I agree with your opinion that IF Gonzales tried to interfere with the GJ, it will backfire.

Jurors are funny creatures. They take their work very seriously and I believe they always try very hard to be fair and do the right thing.

The injection of political pressure into their decisions would not be well received. And I don't think it could remain secret.

ABC News Update on Hastert Story
May 24, 2006 10:21 PM

Brian Ross Reports:

Richard Esposito and Rhonda Schwartz contributed to this report.

Despite a flat denial from the Department of Justice, federal law enforcement sources tonight said ABC News accurately reported that Speaker of the House Dennis Hastert is "in the mix" in the FBI investigation of corruption in Congress.

Speaker Hastert said tonight the story was "absolutely untrue" and has demanded ABC News retract its story.

Law enforcement sources told ABC News that convicted lobbyist Jack Abramoff has provided information to the FBI about Hastert and a number of other members of Congress that have broadened the scope of the investigation. Sources would not divulge details of the Abramoff’s information.

"You guys wrote the story very carefully but they are not reading it very carefully," a senior official said.

One focus involves a letter Hastert wrote in 2003 urging the Secretary of the Interior to block an Indian casino that would have competed with tribes represented by Abramoff.

The letter was written within days of a fund-raiser held for Hastert at Abramoff’s restaurant in Washington. Federal campaign records show more than $26,000 was raised at the time from Abramoff and his clients.

Hastert has denied doing anything unlawful and says he has a long history of opposing certain types of Indian casinos.

ABC’s law enforcement sources said the Justice Department denial was meant only to deny that Hastert was a formal "target" or "subject" of the investigation.

"Whether they like it or not, members of Congress, including Hastert, are under investigation," one federal official said tonight.

The investigation of Hastert’s relationship with Abramoff is in the early stages, according to these officials, and could eventually conclude that Abramoff’s information was unfounded.

Officials said the next logical investigative step would be for the FBI to seek a wide range of documents from the members of Congress named by Abramoff, including letters and business documents.

A spokesman for Hastert said the office had received no subpoenas or requests for documents.

My my how hard the GOP worked to change the law after they got Ken Starr to try to impeach Clinton. They have a pickel of a problem. As I said long ago it is to late in the case to withdraw. I love the law. If Gonzo or the Supremes tried to dismantel this case it would be seen as the White House dictatorship of our law system. Remember even the White House isn't above the law Nixon tried that. From what I've seen of Gonzo lately he's not smart enough to get out of this one. If the laws were so easy Nixon would have gotten away with his crime. Gonzo is the dumbist Attoney General we've ever had and he's dumber then Ashcrof.

Grimm Brothers Gerbil’s World or
“We see red!”

We all agree on the definition of color. (Wavelength times frequency – for all of you rocket scientists out there and among us, yes, I know, there’s more, but let’s keep it simple)
Since everyone has agreed to the definition, it’s objectivity goes unchallenged, until or unless we challenge the definition. We change objectivity by changing the definition. If everyone agrees to a new definition, it is, again, objective. We then say it is factual. We say it is a fact. Ok, by definition then, we have facts. Now, a little fun.

Gerbil finds a ball. He says the ball’s color is blue! But everyone else sees (the color) red!
A push comes to a shove, and everyone else insists the ball is red and resorts to the definition for the color red. Gerbil is undaunted. He hauls everyone’s ass on Mars, and tells them to look again! And, by God, we all “see” the color blue! (The Gerbil explains the atmospheric composition determines the wavelength and frequency of the “color” we “see”!) We remain undaunted, and insist the definition for color remain unchanged. AND…insist that the Gerbil return to earth.

Gerbil is confident. “By definition and what you “see” …the ball is blue! That’s a fact!!”
“...and the world, you insist on, is not mine, folks!”

Gerbil relinquishes sadly and remains on Mars and wishes the best for us...here...on earth.

No! Who would have ever suspected?!

"According to the Center for Responsive Politics, House Speaker Dennis Hastert is the No.1 individual recipient of money from Abramoff and his clients, with a total of $68,300 contributed to his campaign committee and leadership PAC from 1998 to 2004."

This possible quashing might be the final act of treason that ignites the revolution.

Nice to see BlueWild back.

Time to get them both under hot lamps...no rubber hoses though, shouldn't be needing that.

They are singing...this is going to finally take off now like wildfire, today...

The widening FBI investigation of congressional corruption is being fueled by two convicted Washington insiders, who federal officials and defense lawyers say are telling the FBI "anything they want to know."

Convicted Congressman Randall "Duke" Cunningham has begun serving his seven-year sentence and is now known as inmate #94405-198.

Convicted lobbyist Jack Abramoff, who has yet to be sentenced, is known as inmate #27593-112. The Federal Bureau of Prisons lists his current location as "in transit."

Both men pleaded guilty to corruption charges earlier this year and agreed to cooperate in the government's ongoing investigation of congressional bribery and influence peddling.

Cunningham, currently being evaluated at the federal medical facility in Butner, NC,
"is cooperating fully," according to his lawyer, K. Lee Blalack, of O'Melveny & Myers. Cunningham is suffering from prostate and skin cancer, according to Blalack.

Blalack says Cunningham has also provided extensive documents to the House Intelligence Committee, which is conducting its own investigation of Cunningham's activities when he was on the committee.

Cunningham's bribes were described by prosecutors as the largest in the history of the United States Congress.

His information deals primarily with the defense contractors from whom he has admitted accepting bribes, according to people familiar with the investigation.

As for Abramoff, federal law enforcement officials say he has spent "hours and hours" with FBI agents detailing his relationships with dozens of members of Congress.

"What we're going to do now is figure out if what Jack told us is the case," said one official.

Federal law enforcement sources told ABC News Wednesday that Abramoff has been questioned about his relationship with Speaker of the House Dennis Hastert.

"He is very much in the mix," a federal law enforcement official told ABC News about Hastert. The official said Hastert is not considered a formal "subject" or "target" at this time.

Since our report, the Justice Department has twice denied that Hastert is under investigation or "in the mix."

Speaker Hastert called the ABC News report "totally untrue."

I agree but since I have no knowledge of what is actually happening, I feel that the way ABC news is totally sticking by this, there is something concrete happening.

Realistically, why wouldn't Hastert be involved? He's a fat old Republican pig...he fits the description of all the other crooks.

And before anyone starts talking about Jefferson, if he's guilty, he also needs to go to jail. Dem or Rep - buh bye! If you're a crook, and are guilty, your political party is irrelevant.

But I truly do believe that Hastert has something big to hide. I'm going on hunch alone here...there is some reason that ABC is sticking so firm to this.

I believe that ABC news has something hard, otherwise they would have backed off. In spite of the fact that they are being crucified by the Bushco whores, they are sticking to their Hastert story.

Hasterts long association with our two little singing birdies (Cunningham and Abramoff) will be his downfall. I think Cunningham and Abramoff will bring down many of the corrupt politicians currently swilling their way through Washington and OUR tax dollars.

The fact is, Abramoff and Cunningham have nothing to lose. They are toast, so it is probably in their best interest to tell everything they know. After all, why should THEY go to jail with all this info, when the others are still drinking at the trough?

It's fun watching the Rethugs eating their young tho...
