Very Special Counsel...

Under Attack

"Special Counsel Patrick J. Fitzgerald and his investigation of the outing of undercover CIA operative Valerie Plame are under attack by multiple mainstream media organizations acting simultaneously. The reports are - at best - shoddy journalism and at worst a deliberate attempt to bury one of the most powerful political news stories in US history."

"A startling decision on its face. The information on Armitage was hardly new: it had been reported months ago by several news agencies, including Truthout and the New York Daily News. Further, Fitzgerald's investigation/prosecution is hardly dead, as both the Times and Post are well aware. So why the deliberate attempt to kill the story?"

"The threat to the White House posed by Fitzgerald's investigation is abundantly clear, but Fitzgerald threatens another powerful institution in his pursuit of the Plame truth, America's multibillion-dollar commercial news industry. The threat is not abstract or academic, it's quite real. For undercover CIA operative Valerie Plame to have been "outed," someone had to reveal her identity, but someone else had to publish the information. Enter the US Fourth Estate - all rights intact." <more>

I can see clearly now, Ernesto is gone.

Telephone telepathy - I was just thinking about you

NORWICH (Reuters) - Many people have experienced the phenomenon of receiving a telephone call from someone shortly after thinking about them -- now a scientist says he has proof of what he calls telephone telepathy.

Rupert Sheldrake, whose research is funded by the respected Trinity College, Cambridge, said on Tuesday he had conducted experiments that proved that such precognition existed for telephone calls and even e-mails.

Brazile: Democratic Party must acknowledge power of bloggers

In a column in today's edition of Roll Call, Democratic Party insider and former Bill Clinton advisor Donna Brazile urged Democrats to acknowledge the power and influence of bloggers.
While expressing her irritation with harsh criticism of "dinosaur" Democrats from some segments of the blogosphere, Brazile credits younger Dems for "figuring out how to use the Internet" and for the net-roots effect on recent events, particularly the much-publicized primary defeat of Joe Lieberman at the hands of blog darling Ned Lamont.

"If convicted Libby could face the following penalties: obstruction of justice: 10 years in prison; making false statements: 5 years; perjury: 4 years; going to jail with the name Scooter: priceless." --Tina Fey

"Insiders say that if Karl Rove resigns, President Bush will not function effectively. Wait a minute, all this time he's been functioning effectively?" --David Letterman

I like the LA Times in California article on the spin of the Plame Blame story. This editorial really nails it!

The Plame Blame Game

No one comes out looking especially good in the Valerie Plame affair

Some supporters of the administration are gloating over the disclosure of Armitage's role, suggesting that it shows Fitzgerald was on a witch hunt. Some are demanding a presidential pardon for Libby. That's premature, and it's worth recalling that Libby is accused of something serious: lying to federal investigators. Still, the latest twists and turns in the Plame-Wilson affair make us wish that we had been right when we observed, almost exactly three years ago, that "no one should count on catching the leaker, at least in a legally airtight manner."

Hallo, justice bloggers

CHINESE MUST BE PAID ON 7TH SEPTEMBER, OR ELSE...

On 7th September 2006, critical payments must be made to official Chinese recipients, which, for impregnable legal and technical reasons, cannot be remitted without the $4.5 trillion payable to Ambassador Leo Wanta and his Virginia-based corporation, being paid out first or at the same time.

Because implementation of the delayed Wanta Settlement will set the precedent for the belated reordering of the United States' chaotic and deveitful official finances, by not only bringing funds onto the balance sheet and triggering colossal tax payments direct to the US Treasury, but also by raising questions as to the whereabouts of the remaining $23.7 trillion of Leo E. Wanta's original funds, the official criminals in the White House, the Federal Reserve and their co-conspirators at prominent US financial institutions, face the following millennial dilemma and temptation:

Shall we renege onpayments to the Chinese in order to avoid having to pay Wanta, or not?

Their dishonourable and criminal intention is to do just that, if they can.

It now transpires that the Chinese "CHIPS" may be 'hollow', which means that all the funds belonging to the Chinese parties, in both camps, may have been diverted or stolen.

Ladies and Gentlemen: If these madmen, who are like bank robbers with nowhere to hide, fail to honour obligations towards both groups of Chinese on 7th September 2006 – calculating that there may be more chance of their skins being saved than if they do the right thing – both groups of Chinese may dump the dollar, which may collapse by at least 50% if matters run out of control as expected; and the world may enter an avoidable hell by courtesy of the Bush II White House.

New York Times David Brooks: A Guide for the Perplexed

David Brooks
New York Times

Here an excerpt:

Perhaps you remember how much this all mattered.

And yet now it has been revealed that the primary leaker was not Rove at all, but Richard Armitage, a former deputy secretary of state. And this news produces no outrage at all. Nothing. A piffle. Perhaps you are wondering how this could happen.

Well, dear reader, there are four things you must remember about your political class. First, there is a big difference between politically useful wrongdoing and politically useless wrongdoing, the core of which is that politically useless wrongdoing is not really wrongdoing at all.

I found this article. This goofball of a reporter is on serious acid. When this case is over, Fitz, please put the phone off the hook if the asswipe Brooks ever hinted an exclusive interview.

Outed CIA officer was working on Iran, intelligence sources say

According to current and former intelligence officials, Plame Wilson, who worked on the clandestine side of the CIA in the Directorate of Operations as a non-official cover (NOC) officer, was part of an operation tracking distribution and acquisition of weapons of mass destruction technology to and from Iran.

It's interesting...from "The Nation" it appears that Valerie worked on Iraq before Iran:

What Valerie Plame Really Did at the CIA

..."In 1997 she returned to CIA headquarters and joined the Counterproliferation Division. (About this time, she moved in with Joseph Wilson; they later married.) She was eventually given a choice: North Korea or Iraq. She selected the latter. Come the spring of 2001, she was in the CPD's modest Iraq branch. But that summer--before 9/11--word came down from the brass: We're ramping up on Iraq. Her unit was expanded and renamed the Joint Task Force on Iraq. Within months of 9/11, the JTFI grew to fifty or so employees. Valerie Wilson was placed in charge of its operations group.

There was great pressure on the JTFI to deliver. Its primary target was Iraqi scientists. JTFI officers, under Wilson's supervision, tracked down relatives, students and associates of Iraqi scientists--in America and abroad--looking for potential sources. They encouraged Iraqi émigrés to visit Iraq and put questions to relatives of interest to the CIA. The JTFI was also handling walk-ins around the world. Increasingly, Iraqi defectors were showing up at Western embassies claiming they had information on Saddam's WMDs. JTFI officers traveled throughout the world to debrief them. Often it would take a JTFI officer only a few minutes to conclude someone was pulling a con. Yet every lead had to be checked."

Nearly 70 percent of recovery workers who responded to the attacks on the World Trade Center have suffered lung problems, and high rates of lung "abnormalities" continue, a new health study released Tuesday shows.

Doctors at Mount Sinai Medical Center, which conducted the study, said the results prove that working in the toxic gray dust at ground zero made many people sick, and some will likely suffer the effects for the rest of their lives.

"There should no longer be any doubt about the health effects of the World Trade Center. Our patients are sick," said Dr. Robin Herbert, co-director of the group that investigated the long-term effects from exposure to dust at the site.

The study, the largest involving health issues linked to the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks, and is to be published Thursday in the journal Environmental Health Perspectives, just days before the fifth anniversary of the towers' collapse.

It focused mostly on what has been dubbed "World Trade Center cough," which was little understood immediately after the attacks but has become a chief concern of health experts and advocates. It also found that lung ailments tended to be worst among those who arrived first at the site.

Mayor Michael Bloomberg later said there was still no direct proof that exposure at ground zero caused the illnesses.

"I haven't seen the Mount Sinai study, but I don't believe that you can say specifically a particular problem came from this particular event," Bloomberg said at a separate event to announce the city's own Sept. 11 health initiative.

Findings highlighted by the Mount Sinai study include:

- Almost 70 percent of World Trade Center responders had new or worsened lung symptoms after the attacks.

- Among responders who had no health symptoms before the attacks, 61 percent developed lung symptoms while working on the toxic pile.

- One-third of those tested had abnormal lung function tests.

In lung function tests, responders had abnormalities at a rate double that expected in the general population. Those abnormalities persisted for months and in some cases years after the exposure, the study found.

The findings are based on medical exams conducted between July 2002 and April 2004 on 9,500 ground zero workers, including construction workers, law enforcers, firefighters, transit workers, volunteers and others.

The hospital has been the focal point of New York research on Sept. 11-related illnesses, and thousands have sought treatment there.

The report comes as public concern over the fate of ground zero workers has risen. In a class action lawsuit against the city and its contractors, 8,000 workers and civilians blame Sept. 11 for sinusitis, cancers and other ailments they developed after the attacks.

The doctors were joined by New York politicians who prodded the federal government to extend funding for research and treatment programs. They also charged that environmental officials failed to issue necessary warnings about the health danger.

"Our government was not telling us the truth," said Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton, D-N.Y. "The air was not safe to breathe. It was obvious that the air was hard to see through, let alone breathe."

Dr. John Howard, who was appointed by the Bush administration in February to coordinate ground zero health programs, said the findings buttress earlier work done by city researchers.

Gov. George Pataki signed legislation last month that expanded benefits for workers who became sick after toiling at ground zero, but Bloomberg objected to the laws, saying they were unfunded and would cost the city hundreds of millions of dollars.

Bloomberg said the city's plan being unveiled Tuesday would "build on our track record of supporting those who supported us in the months after 9/11," according to an op-ed piece by the mayor in the Daily News.

A House committee plans to hold a hearing on Sept. 11 health issues this week.

The city-run World Trade Center Health Registry is tracking the long-term effects on 71,000 people, including those who lived or worked in lower Manhattan at the time of the attacks and the months of cleanup.

Just last week, New York City health officials issued long-awaited guidelines to help doctors detect and treat Sept. 11-related illnesses - medical advice considered crucial for hundreds of ground zero workers now scattered across the United States.

Why isn't Armitage's outing of Plame being thought of as doing Cheney's bidding?

He and Cheney were tight when he belonged to the Vulcan's. Doesn't that implicate him in some way as having a 'reason' to be one of the leakers?

Why is he considered so innocent in all of this? He was one of the one's who wanted to go after Saadam Hussein and thus wanting to go to war with Iraq - I don't think what he did was inadvertent.

Today, a new excerpt of the book discloses what Valerie Wilson did at the CIA.

Was she merely analyst--as Bob Novak and others have claimed? Was she only a desk-jockey--as Jonah Goldberg of The National Review insisted? No. She was operations chief of the Joint Task Force on Iraq (JTFI), a unit of the Counterproliferation Division of the clandestine Directorate of Operations.

For the two years prior to her outing, Valerie Wilson worked to gather intelligence that would support the Bush White House's assertion that Saddam Hussein's Iraq was loaded with WMDs. This means that Armitage--as well as Karl Rove and Scooter Libby--leaked classified information about a undercover CIA officer whose job it had been to look for evidence of Saddam's WMD programs. Any irony here? During this part of her career, Valerie Wilson traveled overseas to monitor operations she and her staff at JTFI were mounting.

An increasing number of Republicans, ranging from former conservative Congressman Joe Scarborough to former President George H.W. Bush, worry that President George W. Bush's tenuous hold on reality is slipping away and the leader of the free world may be sliding into a full-fledged mental breakdown.

Scarborough sounded the warning recently when he devoted an episode of his MSNBC talk show to the topic "Is Bush an Idiot?" Other published reports say Bush's own father is worried about his son's mental state. Psychiatrists who have observed Bush during his presidency share this concern.

Somebody (or somebodies) burned down the slaughterhouse in Hastert's district once but it got rebuilt.

Media Misses the Point
On C.I.A. Leak Story

To observe the Washington press corps is to wonder why so many people who don’t remember what happened yesterday and can’t master basic logic are expected to analyze politics and policy. The latest developments in the Valerie Plame Wilson case—as revealed in Hubris, a new book by Michael Isikoff and David Corn—proved once more that the simplest analysis of facts is beyond the grasp of many of America’s most celebrated journalists.

Expect to see Mr. Fitzgerald on a News conferance today in Chicago.

Ex-Gov. Ryan's sentencing day arrives
September 6, 2006

BY MIKE ROBINSON ASSOCIATED PRESS

Former Gov. George Ryan is heading back to court, hoping that the sentence a federal judge imposes for racketeering and fraud stops well short of the eight to 10 years prosecutors are asking.

"Even a sentence of no more than 30 months could take away the last healthy years of his life," defense attorneys said in court papers filed with U.S. District Judge Rebecca R. Pallmeyer.

A packed court was expected Wednesday for something approaching the climax to a drama that has dominated Illinois politics for eight years.

Death penalty opponents who regard the former governor as a hero were expected to squeeze into the benches alongside severe critics as Ryan and his longtime friend, businessman-lobbyist Larry Warner, are sentenced.

Among those expected: the Rev. Scott Willis and his wife, Janet. The death of six of their children in a November 1994 Wisconsin expressway tragedy was the catalyst that helped to set in motion the biggest Illinois political scandal in decades.

Ryan, 72, was convicted April 18 of racketeering conspiracy, mail fraud and other offenses while he was secretary of state from 1991 to 1999 and governor of Illinois for four years after that.

Prosecutors say evidence at the seven-month trial shows he doled big-money contracts and leases out to Warner and other insiders and in return received benefits ranging from Caribbean vacations to a free golf bag.

The husky-voiced former pharmacist from downstate Kankakee, once the most powerful political leader at the Statehouse in Springfield, also used state money and state workers for his campaigns, the government alleged.

And prosecutors contended that Ryan got rid of investigators in the secretary of state's office to hide the flow of payoff money into the Citizens for Ryan campaign fund from the sale of driver's licenses.

Ryan and the soft-spoken, 67-year-old Warner have maintained that nothing they did in connection with leases and contracts was illegal.

Prosecutors argued in advance of the sentencing that Ryan should get between eight and 10 years in prison. They said federal guidelines called for a sentence in that range. But the guidelines are no longer mandatory.

The maximum sentence for racketeering conspiracy alone is 20 years. In addition to that charge, Ryan was convicted of mail fraud, lying to FBI agents, tax fraud and filing false tax returns.

Defense attorneys pleaded for mercy in court papers saying that Ryan had reached an "advanced age" and was plagued by Crohn's disease, diverticulitis and high cholesterol.

They said more than a short term would end up being a life sentence.

"The public shaming that Ryan has endured combined with the impending loss of his pension greatly lessens the need for the court to punish through the sentencing process," Ryan's lawyers said in court papers.

They said Ryan "has been publicly and universally humiliated."

"It is not necessary to impose a life sentence to reflect the seriousness of the offense," they said.

Ryan's campaign manager and chief of staff, Scott Fawell, is currently serving a 6 1/2-year sentence in federal prison for racketeering and other offenses in the secretary of state's office under Ryan.

Prosecutors said anything less for Ryan himself would be unfair.

The Willis tragedy was instrumental in launching the government's eight-year investigation of corruption in the Ryan era.

A heavy steel part broke off of a truck and slid under the Willis' van, which was following, ripped open the gas tank and set it ablaze. Five of the six children were killed immediately and the sixth died hours later.

Investigators found evidence that the truck driver was unqualified to be behind the wheel but had gotten his license through a payoff at the secretary of state's corruption-riddled McCook licensing station.

Federal prosecutors eventually traced thousands of dollars in payoff money to the Citizens for Ryan campaign fund.

The investigation began by focusing on bribes paid for truck drivers licenses but gradually expanded to include a smorgasbord of payoffs, campaign corruption, money laundering, lobbying abuses and cover-ups.

So far, 79 individuals have been charged, 75 convicted and 68 sentenced. Two are fugitives and charges have been dismissed in one case.

How quickly we forget. The administration that fell asleep at the wheel had John Ashcroft on board and he didn’t even want to hear about terrorism anymore. Will this be in the ABC special?

Video-WMP Video-QT

BEN-VENISTE: Good afternoon, gentlemen.

Mr. Pickard, on January 21st of this year you met with our staff. Is that correct?

PICKARD: That’s correct.

BEN-VENISTE: And according to our staff report, you told them that in June 2001, you met with Attorney General Ashcroft and he told you that you would be the acting FBI director.

PICKARD: That’s correct.

BEN-VENISTE: You had some seven or eight meetings with the attorney general?

PICKARD: Somewhere in that number. I have the exact number, but I don’t know the total.

BEN-VENISTE: And according to the statement that our staff took from you, you said that you would start each meeting discussing either counterterrorism or counterintelligence. At the same time the threat level was going up and was very high. Mr. Watson had come to you and said that the CIA was very concerned that there would be an attack. You said that you told the attorney general this fact repeatedly in these meetings. Is that correct?

PICKARD: I told him at least on two occasions.

BEN-VENISTE: And you told the staff according to this statement that Mr. Ashcroft told you that he did not want to hear about this anymore. Is that correct?

PICKARD: That is correct.

Lobbying-and-bribery probe eyes payments to DeLay's wife

Recent FBI interviews with members of a lobbying firm indicate that the Justice Department is investigating whether former House Majority Leader Tom Delay's wife earned $115,000 over three years for a no-show job, according to an article by The Wall Street Journal.

Max Cleland: “I Don’t Agree with a Damn Thing the Attorney General Said”

Wolf Blitzer had an interview with Alberto Gonzales a little bit ago, which we won’t pain you with. Gonzales beat his drum right along the Whitehouse talking points and kept insisting that Iraq was a major front in the war on terror, as well as downplayed the importance of actually capturing Osama. Following the interview, Max Cleland came on to give his rebuttal:

Not only did Cleland blast Gonzales, but he also got his digs in against the swiftboaters and what he is doing to help Murtha this fall. Cleland did get some great points across. Now if we could only get the administration to listen to people who actually have been in war.
BLITZER: Do you agree with the attorney general as far as his assessment of the importance or lack thereof, if you will, of Osama bin Laden overall in terms of the war on terror?
MAX CLELAND (D), FORMER GEORGIA SENATOR: I don’t agree with a damn thing the attorney general said. It is al Qaeda, stupid. It is Osama bin Laden and his terrorist cadre that must be killed or captured, period. If we don’t have high government officials in Washington who understand that, we need new high government officials.

Schwartz says Abramoff explained that Rove arranged the sidewalk pow-wow to avoid entering a visit or phone calls in White House logs, and besides, "he's a fat f—, and he can use the exercise."

Loved that excerpt.. LOL!!!

Folks, this tells you what type of Administration that we have worked for the American people..

Book: In lead up to war, Bush's temper flared over reporters; Cheney aides mistook watering hole for WMD hiding place

•President Bush was driven by a visceral hatred of Saddam Hussein, which he privately demonstrated in expletive-laden tirades against the Iraqi dictator. In May 2002--months before he asked Congress for authority to attack Saddam-Bush bluntly revealed his ultimate game plan in a candid moment with two aides. When told that reporter Helen Thomas was questioning the need to oust Saddam by force, Bush snapped: "Did you tell her I intend to kick his sorry mother fucking ass all over the Mideast?" In a meeting with congressional leaders, the President angrily thrust his middle finger inches in front of the face of Senator Tom Daschle to illustrate Saddam's attitude toward the United States.

•After the invasion, Dick Cheney's aides desperately sifted through raw intelligence nuggets in search of any evidence that would justify the war. On one occasion they sent the WMD hunters in Iraq a satellite photo that they suspected showed a hiding place for WMDs. But it was only an overhead photo of a watering hole for cows.

And this was the President who ran on family values in his 2004 election. And the Ambien mistaken WMDs for a water hole? Folks, get out a vote in Novemember...

I was waiting for this developing story.. There is another book which has surfaced about the leak case:

Rove withheld crucial CIA leak email for nearly a year, new book reveals

In the new book, Hubris: The Inside Story of Spin, Scandal, and the Selling of the Iraq War, veteran Newsweek reporter Michael Isikoff and Nation Washington editor David Corn reveal they obtained a copy of the printed-out email sent by Rove to then-Deputy National Security Adviser Stephen Hadley in July 2003

The printout is dated in November of 2003. Rove's lawyer -- Robert Luskin -- didn't turn the email over to the special prosecutor investigating the outing of a CIA officer until October 2004.

Hubris reveals the email was printed out Nov. 25, 2003 and given to Rove's lawyer by Rove assistant BJ Goergen.
Luskin would later say he overlooked the email, not discovering it until Cooper was held in contempt of court for a second time in October 2004 after refusing to testify about his conversation with Rove.
Luskin turned over the email the day after Cooper was held in contempt. At the time, he said it was missed because the right "search words" weren't used -- an explanation that seems to lose water amidst the new revelations.

But back to our regurlarly scheduled program:

The Armitage Red Herring
The right wants you to believe the Plame scandal is over. It isn't.

Click Source

Daniel Schulman
September 04 , 2006 If you believe the Wall Street Journal's op-ed page, the conservative wing of the blogosphere, or any number of right-wing commentators, the outing of CIA operative Valerie Plame has amounted to a non-scandal, a conspiracy theory drummed up for political ends by the left. This owes to the recent disclosure in Newsweek that former Deputy Secretary of State Richard Armitage was the initial and primary source for the now infamous column by Robert Novak that touched off the controversy. Plugging “Hubris: The Inside Story of Spin, Scandal, and the Selling of the Iraq War,” a soon-to-be-released book co-authored by Newsweek's Michael Isikoff and The Nation's David Corn (who was the first to raise the question of whether the Plame leak broke the law), the magazine reported that Armitage, who has a reputation as a gossip, may have inadvertently leaked Plame’s identity to Novak in the course of making chit chat.

In the Journal's interpretation, one shared by like-minded ideologues, this means that: “… the leaker wasn't Karl Rove or Scooter Libby or anyone else in the White House who has been accused of running a conspiracy against Ms. Plame as revenge for her husband Joe Wilson's false accusations against the White House's case for war with Iraq. So what have the last three years been all about anyway? Political opportunism and internal score-settling, among other things.” Not quite. The very significant news about Armitage’s role in all of this is but one strand in a many-tentacled scandal that has led, among other places, to the office of the Vice President and to the President himself. Attempts to portray this news otherwise are just the latest effort by the right to mute the scandal, which has included questioning whether Plame was really covert and not just a Langley office hand.

Corn, for his part, seems somewhat amused that his reporting has been held up to vindicate those who believe the Plame leak was not the act of political retaliation it certainly appears to have been. “White House defenders are chortling,” he writes on his blog. “For some reason, they believe that the news from ‘Hubris’ that Richard Armitage was the original leaker means there was nothing to the CIA leak case.” He goes on to say that the body of evidence that has been unearthed over the years disputes this fact. “Rove's leak (to Robert Novak and Matt Cooper) and Libby's leak (to Judith Miller and Cooper) were part of a campaign to discredit former ambassador Joseph Wilson. That's no conspiracy theory.”

In the spring of 2003, as details emerged about a then-unnamed former ambassador who had traveled to Niger to investigate reports that Iraq had sought to buy yellow cake uranium from the African nation and found the claims meritless, there was clearly an unhealthy fixation on Wilson and his wife within the White House — and an effort to run damage control to salvage one of the administration’s key assertions about Iraq’s pursuit of WMDs. The facts are clear: On June 12, 2003, more than a month before Novak's column, Libby learned of Plame’s identity in a conversation with the vice president. Authorized by the president himself to disclose part of the highly classified National Intelligence Estimate on Iraq in order to defend the administration’s position on Iraq, Libby met with New York Times reporter Judith Miller later that month. According to Libby’s indictment, at least part of their conversation centered on Wilson's Niger trip and Libby suggested to Miller that Wilson’s wife might work for the CIA. When Libby and Miller met again on July 8, they again discussed Wilson’s trip and, possibly to cover his tracks, Libby asked that his comments be attributed to “a former Hill staffer” instead of a “senior administration official.” During this conversation, according to the indictment, Libby was critical of the CIA’s report on the fact-finding mission and again “advised Miller of his belief that Wilson’s wife worked for the CIA.” Three days later, Karl Rove spoke with Time magazine’s Matt Cooper, telling him not to “get too far out on Wilson” and that the Niger trip had been authorized by “Wilson's wife, who apparently works at the agency on WMD issues” – (actually, the trip had been authorized by the CIA, though Plame had suggested her husband, who had contacts in the region, for the job). The following day, the Washington Post’s Walter Pincus, spoke with an administration official who, using similar talking points, also sought to play down the significance of the Niger trip, telling him “that the White House had not paid attention to the former ambassador's CIA-sponsored trip to Niger because it was set up as a boondoggle by his wife, an analyst with the agency working on weapons of mass destruction.” Meanwhile, during this timeframe, the Post has reported that “two top white house officials contacted at least six reporters and disclosed the identity and occupation of Wilson's wife.”

And that just scratches the surface. Now that Armitage’s long-suspected role in the leak has been clarified, one chapter in this convoluted saga has closed. But there’s more to the story.

Since Valerie Plame was working on the Iraq WMD Intelligence...and she probably KNEW they didn't have any...
she wanted to prove it before Bush & Co. started this war...
she sent her husband, who she could trust...to confirm it.

It seems to be this 'conspiracy' was definitely a "get even score" for the WH, to cover their butts for what they already knew...there weren't any WMD but they had to have something to stir up the war!! IMHO...of course...

However those who can remember know that crying wolf twice is usually NOT a good way to build a reputation for tellin' the truth...

The gerbil is gonna pull out another 911 to get the American people motivated and I think that's exactly what's on ambiens mind.

Fact is that there was nothing wrong with Intelligence Agencies before or during 9/11..

The gerbil admin used the Intelligence agencies as a pawn and blamed them after 9/11 thereby creating his Gestapo type Dept of Homeland Security Agency and FEMA on steroids...

gerbil has further stripped the FBI and the CIA of their powers to give to Dept Homeland Security.

Then he used the CIA again before Iraq and then blamed them after and then outed Plame because their facts didn't jive with what the gerbil admin had in mind....

The fact that the gerbil team kept reiterating a connection between Al-CIA-DUH and Iraq is proof of their intentions...

Now they are racheting up the Iran Hammer because gerbil boy has a religious itch with ahmdinejad(bluto).

I think the gerbil is hearing from his god again....

Although my God is telling me what he's up to is more financial wizardry because Iran is about to open an Oil Bourse that will compete with the Oil/Fed BankCo Dollar Hedgemony...

The Greed Wars are endless folks..

Oh and btw, How do I know it's about the Iran Oil bourse and not about Nukes....

Well if it was about Nukes the gerbil would've already pounced on Tehran's nuke cooker as soon as Ahmadinejad(bluto) announced that he was enriching uranium..

Question is now what would happen if there's another 911 and/or the gerbil goes ahead and attacks Iran without the blessings of the US citizens ?

That's what's around door no 1 folks...

Senate votes to continue use of cluster bombs

An amendment to the 2007 defense appropriations bill that would have prevented military funding from paying for cluster munitions failed on the floor of the Senate by a vote of 30-70, RAW STORY has learned.

Prior to the vote on the measure, Senator Diane Feinstein (D-CA) presented the amendment along with photographs of Iraqi children who have been maimed by cluster munitions that were not tripped by their intended targets.

Also prior to the vote, Senator Patrick Leahy (D-VT) released a statement about cluster munitions and land mines, which defined a cluster munition as, "a large bomb, rocket or artillery shell that contains hundreds of small submunitions, or individual bomblets."

"In some cases," Leahy explained, "up to 40 percent of the bomblets fail to explode and therefore pose a significant danger to civilians long after conflict has ended. Cluster bombs also expose U.S. military forces to grave danger as they advance in combat through areas containing thousands of unexploded bomblet."

The amendment, written by Feinstein and cosponsored by Leahy had wide support from Democrats though some, including Senators Hillary Clinton (D-NY), Frank Lautenberg (D-NJ), and Mary Landrieu (D-LA) voted to defeat it.

They should've known better but they went for the money instead of doing what's right..

They too have sold out the American people by pretending their work together non partisan parade...

Now the gerbil and ambien are despots with signing statement power and the do nothing gop congress and rubber stamp senate let it happen...

Now those running all have to face the Voter square in the eye in November...

It's gonna be an equal opportunity incumbent hate fest..

WGN News!!"

Fitz fan:

Some of us don't have cable and many states are not covering the Ryan's case.. But, thank you for sharing his Ryan's sentence. I had to go to a website to look for the info... So, the windbag got over 6 years and plus months.. Well, justice has been served.. But, Ryan does need to serve prison. I could care less about his sniffing and snotting about his age and health. Graft is graft!

GEF:

Ryan will need Baretta's parrot in prison. He will need someone to talk to! LOL!

Cheers!

Yeah, we're waiting on slow Justice to present Uncle Tom Delay front and center in court to answer some questions and sing his tune in October...

I don't think he'll be smiling then like his arrest picture shows...

I just missed your comments at 4:46 pm. Fitz needs to put up a new thread.. Both Democrats and GOPS have some cleaning up to do on their party. Both party for so long have acted like the Capulets and the Montegues... The us against them mode... People that I talked who are stanch GOP told me honestly that they will always be GOP but this year they are voting for a change.. You will hear that from a lot of people. It doesn't matter what party that you belong too that you want change in this country. That is waht the GOP corrupted Koolaids are scared about. The Democrats are promitng changed where the majority of the GOP are promoting the same old tired rhetoric....

Yep, stay the course is a sure recipe for a lost senate and house...

That Koolaid is stale...It's had too much sugar and stayed in the sun too long...

And guess what happens to Rove if he doesn't perform for the gerbil ?

The gerbil will unhook his safety pin and toss him over to Fitz as deflection chum...

After they're used up, their bosses cannabalise them to throw off the Feds..

Those NeoConJobs are like sock puppets...Once you use them they're tossed like yesterdays news..

Is there anyone NOT in the spying business these days??

HP Spied on Own Directors

Hewlett-Packard admitted in a securities filing Wednesday that it used a technique known as "pretexting" to obtain private phone records of its own company directors, but added that an internal review concluded the tactic "was not generally unlawful" at the time of the investigation. The company sought the records to determine who had leaked information to the press.

No graft temptation for me..besides, I'd seek to outlaw lobbyists...

Yup, I suspect Fitz is expected that to happen real soon.. If Abramoff can call Porkrind a fat f**k, what do you think the Gerbil would call Porkrind behind his back! Right now, Porkrind is indespensible.. The GOP lost faith in his magic, his step-dad's life style is exposed, and so on.. Rove is yesterday's laundry and dog meat now.. Rove should give Fitz a call and fess up before he goes down with the rest of the nimrods...

Mr. Fitzgerald in court today:

Ryan gets 6½ years in prison
September 6, 2006

BY NATASHA KORECKI Federal Courts Reporter

A stoic former Gov. George Ryan was sentenced this afternoon to 6 1/2 years in federal prison for years of corruption while he held state office.

Before U.S. District Judge Rebecca Pallmeyer imposed the sentence, Ryan apologized to voters for his actions.

“They expected better of me,” Ryan said. “I let them down. And for that I apologize. The result deeply pains me. This is the saddest day of my life.”

The date set for Ryan to surrender is Jan. 4.

Ryan, 72, showed no expression when the sentence was handed down. Nor did his wife Lura Lynn, who sat behind him and beside former Gov. Jim Thompson.

Ryan was convicted in April of steering contracts and leases to his pals, including co-defendant Lawrence Warner, while taking gifts, vacations and cash in return. Ryan was also convicted of lying to FBI agents.

The sentence is the exact same length given to Ryan’s former right hand man and protege, Scott Fawell. But Fawell, who testified against Ryan, was just 45 years old when sentenced in 2003.

Pallmeyer said Ryan’s conviction could overshadow what he did in a lifetime of politics.

“For many people, the corruption will eclipse the policy decisions,” the judge said. “That’s one thing Mr. Fawell does not suffer.”

Also in the courtroom was U.S. Attorney Patrick Fitzgerald, FBI Special-Agent-In-Charge Robert Grant and the Rev. Duane “Scott” Willis and his wife, Janet. The couple lost six of their kids in a 1994 accident linked to a truck driver that had paid bribes to get his commercial driver’s license. That accident led to the Operation Safe Road investigation that snared Ryan and Fawell.

Ryan faced eight to 10 years in prison. His lawyers asked for 30 months, citing his age, his health issues and those of his wife.

Ryan’s family, including his son and five daughters were in the courtroom. They previously sent letters to Pallmeyer asking for leniency.
