50 Days Until The Election...

Toss up in the Senate.

The battle for control of the U.S. Senate is getting closer—much closer. Little more than a week ago, our Balance of Power summary showed the Republicans leading 50-45 with five states in the Toss-Up category. Today, Rasmussen Reports is changing three races from “Toss-Up” to “Leans Democrat.” As a result, Rasmussen Reports now rates 49 seats as Republican or Leans Republican while 48 seats are rated as Democrat or Leans Democrat (see State-by-State Summary). There are now just three states in the Toss-Up category--Tennessee, New Jersey, and Missouri.

Today’s changes all involve Republican incumbents who have been struggling all year. In Montana, Senator Conrad Burns (R) has fallen behind Jon Tester (D). Rhode Island Senator Lincoln Chafee (R) survived his primary but starts the General Election as a decided underdog. Sherrod Brown (D) is enjoying a growing lead over Ohio Senator Mike DeWine (R).

Four other seats are now ranked as “Leans Democrat”—Pennsylvania, Minnesota, Maryland, and Michigan.

Virginia is the only state rated as “Leans Republican.”

Democrats have to win all seven states leaning their way plus all three Toss-Ups to regain control of the Senate. While that’s a tall order, recent history shows that it is quite possible for one party or the other to sweep all the close races. The Democrats did so in Election 2000 and the Republicans returned the favor in 2002. If the Democrats win all those seats but one, there would be a 50-50 tie. In that circumstance, Vice-President Dick Cheney would cast the deciding vote in his Constitutional role as the presiding officer of the Senate.

President Bush’s Job Approval ratings have been a concern for Republicans all year. The President enjoyed a brief ratings bounce following his 9/11 speech, but that bounce has now faded.

New Jersey Senator Robert Menendez is the only Democratic incumbent currently caught in a Toss-Up race.

Connecticut Senator Joe Lieberman (D) is now running for re-election as a Independent after losing a Primary Campaign to Ned Lamont (D). However, this race has no impact on the Senate Balance of Power considerations since whichever candidate wins will line up as a Democrat when the Senate convenes next January. <more>

The first message was routine enough: a "Prepare to Deploy" order sent through naval communications channels to a submarine, an Aegis-class cruiser, two minesweepers and two mine hunters. The orders didn't actually command the ships out of port; they just said to be ready to move by Oct. 1. But inside the Navy those messages generated more buzz than usual last week when a second request, from the Chief of Naval Operations (CNO), asked for fresh eyes on long-standing U.S. plans to blockade two Iranian oil ports on the Persian Gulf.

Bush won't speak to the President of Iran, the same old intelligence seen from the pre-Iraq War shows history is repeating itself. Quicksand in Afghanistan and Iraq miring our troops down...and Iran has a military.

But we should always listen to the neocons and Israel--- they have our best interests at heart, don't they?

Sadly, Rome is showing those rumors might true after all. Religion and business, is there much difference in some of it anymore?

The GOP party will have to thank themselves and the Gerbil for their in house dog fight and giving the advantage to the Democrats. People are looking for change in this country. And the same tiresome rhetoric from the GOP to stay the course are not working. People have made up their minds and wat a change. The GOP are still in the denial mode.. I have a feeling that some of the red states that are GOP states will shake the GOP party. They are not focusing the fact that many of the GOP voters are looking for change and if that GOP candidiate cannot deliver then they will vote for another candidate. If/when the Democrats control the House, there is a lot of work to do and pressure on them to keep their promises. It will be long road for this country finanically and emotionally.

The public is now paying attention. It's not a Dem vs Repub it's honesty vs rubber stamp. But life isn't always fair. Some good Republicans will be caught up in the heat of the moment. So many Republicans are full of hate and racism but that's not all. I just hope we get a group of leaders that can clean up the mess Bush made and bring our troops home.
Oh Fitz I read about your friend Spizer in New York nice going. At lease New York is doing their homework. Let's hope California can get a Governor to replace the actor with a script/business deals.

Let's hope that Karl Rove doesn't get his name in the paper for anymore corrupt acts. Look the Abramoff case is putting more people in legal trouble. As Karl Rove request that Micheal Steele run to help get black votes it wont help with Karl is involved in another scandal. Mr. Steele is a strong supporter of President Bush and would help with keeping the control of the Republican party as we go forward with the Bush plan for Democracy in the Middle East. Maybe Bush will attack Iran before the Nov. election so the public can be put in fear of another attack as Iran just might fight back with the US invading their country. That way Republicans can control, invade, eavesdrop, rob the US Treasury without any problems.
