QUESTION: Mr. President, former Secretary of State Colin Powell says, The world is beginning to doubt the moral basis of our fight against terrorism. If a former chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and former secretary of state feels this way, don’t you think that Americans and the rest of the world are beginning to wonder whether you’re following a flawed strategy?
BUSH: If there’s any comparison between the compassion and decency of the American people and the terrorist tactics of extremists, it’s flawed logic. It’s just — I simply can’t accept that. It’s unacceptable to think that there’s any kind of comparison between the behavior of the United States of America and the action of Islamic extremists who kill innocent women and children to achieve an objective.

Pyschos at large running the country. What bullshit, no wonder Bush said to disagree with him in his little press conference today. S-Q, I would take this serious. They are all nuts and crooks. (Bush and Wynne)
Mr. President, everyone bought the yellowcake story just like you and Dick said they would, but if the public ever learns the real truth you guys are going to take the fall, right?
"Pow-Powell, why don't you go a huntin' with Dick this weekend?"

No new Iraq plan, no new course and no plan to get the troops out of Iraq. Just one lone statement of “stay the course” from a man with no plan and no brain. Even a child could see this is a scam from this sham of an administration. Bush should be ashamed of himself.

Dubya says, "Heckuva job, Powie-Wowie!"

This is the Bush Famiy's meaning of friendship. Use your friend and then stab him/her in the back. Nice values to pass on to Ameica as this is the meaning to our President. Watch others be treated the same way. I hope the GOP supporters are watching the actions of this religious born again christian who calls himself George W. Bush.

No it's not flawed logic. The logic is this: 9/11 was optimized intelligence.

WASHINGTON -- In his new book, dedicated to his mother and maternal grandmother -- the women "who raised me" -- Sen. Barack Obama accuses fellow Democrats of being "confused" as the Democratic Party "has become the party of reaction."
He also relates how during a meeting with President Bush he found the president seemingly transformed in one sitting as Bush's "easy affability" over a breakfast "was replaced by an almost messianic certainty" as the encounter progressed.
Guess those rumors about Obama were true after all. Fool me once...
Good Morning All,
Sorry Sen. Barack Obama- I didn't hear you complain about anything until recently...T had high hopes for that young man until he "fell in with the wrong crowd"-the lazy Dems-we need "fighting dems" not ones fighting for their next seat!

The Neorepublicans are really blowing it lately, trying to maintain their stance on the torture issues, apparently to promote their latest fiasco, "The idea that we have to let Dubya maintain absolute power and secrecy to keep us safe at home". I am happy that Colin is finally standing up like a man, but still wonder about his actions and complacency about weapons of mass destruction. It is interesting that true Conservatives are now speaking out against the arrogance of this evil cabal.
Bush ignores congress and the constitution
You put your right hand here
you put your left foot there...
Many eons ago, I respected Colin Powell. But he sold all of us out - including over 2,500 dead soldiers.
His supposed backtracking now has no credibility with me personally. He has blood on his hands, just like Bush. He lied and he knew it.
Just a thought for this Saturday morning.
It is becoming increasingly obvious that we are being force-fed the same drivel about Iran that they used to runup the war in Iraq.
I will now predict that within the next 12 months, this egomaniacal psychopath will bomb Iran.
The lowering of gas prices just prior to the midterms is highly suspect. Gas prices will soar to over $120 a barrel when bonehead drops a bomb on Iraq - and the rest of the Muslim world is drawn into the upcoming conflagration.
If Bush is allowed to continue down this path, we have just begun to see what gore, blood and filth this maniac will bring upon our world.
"It seems like Iran is becoming the new Iraq," said one U.S. counterterrorism official
sq:
nicely said.
I wonder when the fog will lift and more people will realize that lies, lies and damned lies are not good for our country.
There is a special place in hell for Colin Powell. A man with his supposed integrity sold his soul to the devil in George Bush.
Wannabe trolls on Harry Reid's blog.
Going back to at least Lincoln, the words "your comments have been duly noted," comprised the White House approach to communications. That was for the cabinet, people visiting his office which was open, and anyone for that matter.
Lincoln did not tell people "your comments are unacceptable." He "duly noted the comments," and when his cabinet disagreed he said "the ayes have it." This was after due consideration and deliberation.
What is "acceptable," and what is "unacceptable?" From the station of those who have studied the history of the United States of America, it is adherence to basic values.
When the early Patriots in the Army of George Washington wanted to torture Hessians and British Soldiers, something they did to us, he asked that they do not.
Where does our President stand here? Does he keep company with George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, and others? Some sense not only of the Constitution but how it was written and how it relies upon general principles is outstanding. But importantly, the common decency of General Washington and that of Colin Powell even belatedly is refreshing in this atmosphere of retaliation.
If the US will not at least take nominal steps to lead by example, what will other countries do?
The US was founded in a war against despotism, on issues far more relatively faint that confront us today. Perhaps we are too beyond common education and constructive outrage to actually do anything. It could be information overload or hyper complexity. They only key unlocking these issues is at least some adherence to general principles, common decency, and more than glossy PR.

Luke: And the American Turkish Council and the Speaker of the House?
LA: Yes, the Vanity Fair piece of course. Now my understanding from the sources used by the writer (David Rose) that they had provided a great deal more on this account, but legal folks got involved and wanted certain things left out. I think that it is absolutely fair to believe this account to be true. First of all, the Speaker has yet to go on the record to fully deny these charges - apart from a glib reference. Secondly, the key witness/ whistleblower in this case, that is Sibel, is gagged under a rarely used gag, the states secret gag, so she cannot present her argument in court. The evidence also, from what I understand of the case does support her claims. So it is fair to say that there is reason to believe the Speaker Hastert is indeed taking money from foreign nationals, that is bribes, in exchange for something. In fact, the evidence was such that the FBI took this to the DOJ and an investigation was being assembled when the new administration came into office and Ashcroft, the then new Attorney General shut it down. Clearly shutting down an FBI/DOJ investigation instead of allowing it to move forward would also support the allegations against Hastert, but he is not alone in these allegations by any measure.
Luke: Well there were two allegations in the article. One was the ongoing bribery, and the other was the $500,000 for pulling the Armenian Genocide bill.
LA: No - well - sort of, but not really. The point is that there are only a couple of people who know, and obviously I cant report it and the key person who knows is gagged. So that leaves no room to fully and openly explore this. One would hope that in a democracy a citizen would have her right in court and the politically appointed AG would not shut down an FBI sting operation that had been going on for several years. One would hope that foreign nationals would not be bribing members of Congress and I don’t believe, at least from what I have seen, that these bribes have anything to do with a bill that Hastert may or may not have taken to the floor. Remember, this is about “making cookies” and those factions that we alluded to earlier. But if you really want to understand why Sibel is gagged, you need to focus on what happened with Hastert - not Hastert himself, but what happened with Hastert - because THAT is the holy grail to understanding why she is gagged - and also to some extent understanding Brewster Jennings. Not Plame - but Brewster Jennings - and that's the best I can do on the record (and off really).
What the hell kind of gov't is this anyway? Ungag Sibel! The federal government is full of traitors.

Jackie I am thinking of you and Peaches...
take care

The first thing that comes to my mind is:
Nothing says lovin like something from the oven.
I know I know silly but ha that was my first thought with the picture posted.
It's a really check time. Cheney blamed Tenet for the invasion of Iraq. He and Bush were only following the information they had nothing to do with the lies. Clinton was responsibly for 9/11 because he didn't get Bin Laden. Harry Potter is now to blame for the Rummy defense report. Oh yes Fitzgerald is to blame for the CIA leak. With all this blame one would wonder if Bush was really the President for 5 and 1/2 years.
I hope Cuba's summit is successful as it's nice to see that some of the world leaders who don't agree with one another can at lease be civil and communicate with each other.
E thanks I often think of you too.
Peaches is ok and she lets me know everyday because of my nerves. She knows I like blogging on Fitz's site. She also knows my friends on this blog and I tell her your comments. All of you respect the true America and what we really stand for. Ok my eyes are getting a little watery so thanks for thinking about us.
You are right, Jackie--something baked fresh from the oven, yummy. Peaches, you and her fellow military brothers/sisters have our prayers every day.
Rereading over some old "rawstory" stories about the leak case, I had forgotten Senator Roberts part in covering up so much. Disgusting.
PNAC's membership includes people such as Richard Perle, Elliot Abrams, Dick Cheney, Donald Rumsfeld, Paul Wolfowitz, and William Kristol.
PNAC began to enter the public consciousness when journalist Neil Mackay wrote about the September 2000 report in the September 15th, 2002 edition of the Sunday Herald. According to the article, the report sparked outrage from British Labour MP Tom Dalyell:
Tam Dalyell, the Labour MP, father of the House of Commons and one of the leading rebel voices against war with Iraq, said: 'This is garbage from right-wing think-tanks stuffed with chicken-hawks -- men who have never seen the horror of war but are in love with the idea of war. Men like Cheney, who were draft-dodgers in the Vietnam war.
'This is a blueprint for US world domination -- a new world order of their making. These are the thought processes of fantasist Americans who want to control the world. I am appalled that a British Labour Prime Minister should have got into bed with a crew which has this moral standing.'
PNAC
What are the policies of PNAC? Control of the world economy with an eye to ensuring the wealth of a very few already-wealthy Americans is the big one. Everything else flows from that. They see nothing wrong with pre-emptive war. They see nothing wrong with human rights violations. They see no reason why the world should look to the UN instead of the US for leadership. They want to be sure that they control outer space. They would also like to limit dissent, including controlling cyberspace. Nice goals.
Conquest for Fun and Profit
Roger or GEF:
I found this but do either of you have the actual 'document' or a link to the 'document' that it is referring to?
It is interesting that only a year before 9/11 the PNAC had expressed their desire for a “catastrophic and catalysing event - a new Pearl Harbor,” without which they themselves admitted that such an extreme and warlike agenda would never win public support or congressional approval.
GEF--"What is gerbil afraid of by debating Ahmadinejad or talking with Kim Jung IL?"
Ummm, the Gerbil's handlers probably know he would come across as looking totally stupid against those guys. I bet Ahmadinejad would completely win a debate.
Anonymous--"He [Obama] also relates how during a meeting with President Bush he found the president seemingly transformed in one sitting as Bush's "easy affability" over a breakfast "was replaced by an almost messianic certainty" as the encounter progressed."
To me this meant Bush started out being friendly and human but by the end, his massive ego took over--he thinks he is totally right; no one should question him because he is god. I intepreted that as an insult to Bush. That is typical of bullies. They think they are completely right, even when they are wrong and they say the grass is red.
Sen. Obama is right about a lot of what the Democrats do. Too often instead of coming up with their own stuff, they criticize what the Republicans are doing instead, after the Republicans already did it. The master of that was Sen. Daschle. Geez, what ideas did he ever have on his own? Any? He was too busy whining like a kid who dropped an ice cream cone on the sidewalk. That kind of whining by Democrats needs to stop. Those folks do need to get busy.
Sen. Obama is also the junior senator in Illinois. Right now, Sen. Durbin takes front stage for introducing legislation, etc. It is interesting to watch the two of them together. Obama does defer to Durbin because of seniority out of respect even though Obama is more famous and a more charismatic speaker. Also, Obama plays good cop and his role is to work with the opposition when necessary while Durbin is bad cop and he gives them tongue lashings. ;-) I would bet the two of them worked out all that as a strategy.
Google PNAC or signing, I guess...I did find this.
Certainly not PNAC but closer to reality what happened.

NYT: How 3 GOP veterans stalled Bush's detainee bill
A front page story in Sunday's edition of the New York Times explores how three GOP veterans stalled President Bush's detainee bill.
"Senators John McCain and Lindsey Graham cornered their partner, Senator John W. Warner, on the Senate floor late Wednesday afternoon," begins an article credited to Carl Hulse, Kate Zernike and Sheryl Gay Stolberg.
"Mr. Warner, the courtly Virginian who is chairman of the Armed Services Committee, had been trying for weeks to quietly work out the three Republicans’ differences with the Bush administration’s proposal to bring terrorism suspects to trial," the article continues. "But Senators McCain, of Arizona, and Graham, of South Carolina, who are on the committee with Mr. Warner, convinced him that the time for negotiation was over."
GERBIL'S WORLD CRUMBLING
"The REAL GEF would NEVER say anything like that to me!! We respect one another!!"
Of course, my love. (wink, wink)
"What a lousy fake GEF

Get a life!
Fake GEF, go back to your usual activities. Blowing every single Criminal GOP Incumbent till you're blue in the face. Then eat a gun.
You have nothing to offer anyone.
Colin Powell must confess his sins to the first Gulf War before he can confess his sins to this one.
Sir, you let your troops down. You let humanity down. Powell is a fraud after all.
anon @9:47
you are 100% right.
Colin Powell undoubtedly has difficulty shaving in the mornings. It must be hell looking at the face of a cowardly traitor while you're holding a blade.
Trolls should eat guns, they eat everything else they can get their lips around...especially Mehlmans.

Basheert:
LOL! You funny! LOLMAO!!
Just for the record SQ, I'm the one who said that the troll should eat a gun, not basheert.
gop full of criminals and perverts:
Yes, I know and I should have given you credit for that! However, I was laughing out loud at basheert's entire comment! LOL
By the way...I would imagine when this regime falls...the stock market & economy will fall as well...and many corrupt gop & trolls will probably eat their guns!
P.S. Everyone should prepare for a depression...
SQ
Yeah, the Corrupt GOP will suffer major depressions and guns sales will go way up!
gop full of criminals and perverts:
They will be blaming the booze, the devil and who knows what else for their criminal behavior! And, of course, they will all say they're sorry and ask forgiveness! What a bunch of scum we have in the WH & running (ruining)this country!
SQ
They can blame their corruption and thievery on anything that they like, doesn't mean that they will be forgiven! Most people in their right minds will see right through the pathetic ploys for sympathy.
And, too bad that they can't be physically removed from office, meaning we can't kick their sorry butts out! Like right now! Sick of the GOP crap!
