Perry Mason...

Jonathan Jeffress is not.

Media Hearing - Libby Case
"Much of yesterday’s hearing concerned the notebooks of former New York Times reporter Judith Miller, who spoke three times with Libby about Wilson’s work in June and July 2003 and made repeated reference in her notes to Plame. Miller has said she also discussed Plame with other officials but could not recall their names. But she did not write an article about the matter.
The Times has provided Libby a redacted copy of the notebooks, but Jeffress argued that Libby needed to see other names and phone numbers in Miller’s notebooks to determine who else she spoke with about Plame and if her memory about all the related conversations was confused." [more]

Peter Zeidenberg and Debra Bonamici stepped up to the plate for Team DOJ, while I made notes, played sodoku and doodled aimlessly.
JUSTICE LEAGUE
"Fitzgerald has been the face of this highly publicized probe, but he's relied upon a small army of prosecutors from Washington and Chicago with an array of backgrounds and varying degrees of experience." [more]

Rove, Hatfield, Leopold?
Xymphora

May 15, 2006

Possibly bad news for Leopold (though I trust Leopold more than Byron York):

"I talked with Rove defense spokesman Mark Corallo, who told me the story was completely baseless. Part of our conversation:

Did Patrick Fitzgerald come to Patton Boggs for 15 hours Friday?
No.
Did he come to Patton Boggs for any period of time Friday?
No.
Did he meet anywhere else with Karl Rove's representatives?
No.
Did he communicate in any way with Karl Rove's representatives?
No.
Did he inform Rove or Rove's representatives that Rove had been indicted?
No.

So there seems to be nothing to the story, certainly nothing which any other reporter has seen fit to report. Which raises a question: What is going on here? The journalists who checked out the story, quite properly, did not repeat Leopold's bad information. But for some media blogger out there, it might be reasonable to ask: Where are these reports coming from?"

I don’t want to dump all over Leopold, as, unlike everybody else, he seems to be trying. On the other hand, his background makes him, exactly like James Hatfield, an excellent target for Rovean disinformation. The Rove pattern is to pick somebody with an iffy history to spread rumors about a touchy topic, rumors which have a basis in truth but which are technically wrong, and then use the character of the person reporting the rumors to deflect attention from the real issues. They used the same method in dealing with Bush’s military service, or lack thereof.

REPORTS OF ROVE'S INDICTMENT ARE GREATLY... [Byron York]
You haven't heard about it, but many reporters spent part of their weekend making calls to check out a report on a left-wing website, truthout.org , that Karl Rove has been indicted in the CIA leak investigation. The report, by someone named Jason Leopold, was posted yesterday and was headlined, "Karl Rove Indicted on Charges of Perjury, Lying to Investigators." It began:

Special Prosecutor Patrick Fitzgerald spent more than half a day Friday at the offices of Patton Boggs, the law firm representing Karl Rove.

During the course of that meeting, Fitzgerald served attorneys for former Deputy White House Chief of Staff Karl Rove with an indictment charging the embattled White House official with perjury and lying to investigators related to his role in the CIA leak case, and instructed one of the attorneys to tell Rove that he has 24 business hours to get his affairs in order, high level sources with direct knowledge of the meeting said Saturday morning.

Robert Luskin, Rove's attorney, did not return a call for comment. Sources said Fitzgerald was in Washington, DC, Friday and met with Luskin for about 15 hours to go over the charges against Rove, which include perjury and lying to investigators about how and when Rove discovered that Valerie Plame Wilson was a covert CIA operative and whether he shared that information with reporters, sources with direct knowledge of the meeting said.

It was still unknown Saturday whether Fitzgerald charged Rove with a more serious obstruction of justice charge. Sources close to the case said Friday that it appeared very likely that an obstruction charge against Rove would be included with charges of perjury and lying to investigators.

The report came out of the blue on Saturday. Jason Leopold, who has written a memoir, entitled News Junkie, in which, according to the book's promotional material, he portrays himself as a writer "whose addictive tendencies led him from a life of drug abuse and petty crime to become an award-winning investigative journalist," has written wildly unreliable reports about the CIA leak affair before. But still, reporters of every stripe felt they had to check this one out.

So did I. I talked with Rove defense spokesman Mark Corallo, who told me the story was completely baseless.

But for some media blogger out there, it might be reasonable to ask: Where are these reports coming from?

Bullet proof sources according to Leopold and I believe him. The press has been soooooooo lousy over the past 5 years that all of a sudden we are to bleive they have good sources in this case?

Leopold has been right on everything else and only naysayers and nabobs of negativism listen tp proven liar Corallo.

Karl Rove's spokesman's denials in the past have turned out to be BS and was more about media control.

Cold Water, so far no lessons are needed. Fitzgerald isn't even prosecuting for CIA leaks or the outting of Plame. He is only left with trying to prosecute purjury cases which aren't going so well. Libby's trial isn't until January. I guess there is no big hurry to try Libby for a dubious at best purjury charge.

9:52 AM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

There is no case for the outting of Plame so all Fitzgerald has left is to try his best to find grounds for purjury charges which will not hold water at the end of the day. Even Libby will walk away from this one.

Leopold's account also said Fitzgerald gave Rove "24 business hours" to get his affairs in order.
If that was on Friday or Saturday, wouldn't that mean he had monday, tuesday and wednesday (today) until there would be some announcement?

Why would Rove's people deny something that is supposedly a fait accompli? As much as I would love to see Rove and the rest of the neoconvicts thrown in jail I cannot see the point of innundating the net with a bunch of bogus disinformation that cannot be verified one way or the other. This just makes the adversaries of the Bush administration look desperate and naive.

Jason Leopold could be way ahead of the pack but it might do him some good to turn around every once in a while and see if anybody is following him.

He has laid his reputation on the line and if there is no forthcoming indictments in the next few days I doubt they will come. Plus I think all of this is a tempest in a teacup as I do not believe in the final analysis that Rove, Cheney or Bush will be put in jail or impeached. These guys are very, very good at what they do and they have each other to cover for whatever sins come to light.

I hate to tell you folks but the country has been taken over in a coup that will be very difficult to extricate from and it will take more than one hard working SP to do the job justice. And if the SP is unsuccessful at going for the juggler it will only embolden these people as they will then know that their adversaries gave it their best and only shot and failed.

I hate to be a wet blanket but wishing things were different will not make it so no matter how egregious the actions of the neocons may be.

If I am wrong then good for all of us but time marches on and these guys are still fully entrenched and as arrogant as ever. It is imperative to get these guys so embroiled in litigation that they have no time to consider any other nefarious deeds. But if it goes bust at this point then, fuggedaboutit!

I was really offended at Clinton's lies especially when he looked me in the eye wagging his finger and said, "I didn't have sex with that woman, Miss Lewinsky". Then he went and took an oath and told the same lies. He did receive fines and disbarment, but if anyone deserved jail time, he did. It wasn't about his disgraceful act of having sex with an Intern in the Oval Office, it is the attemted cover up and lying under oath.

Election fraud and outing of a CIA agent is treason. Deal with it. If they are not charged accordingly, someone isn't doing their job. Read the law-it is very clear.

Fitzgerald is not trying to convict anyone for outing anyone, nor anyone for treason. His case is now down to seeking purjury charges in a case that went nowhere. Libby's indictment has nothing to do with outing a CIA agent or treason. It is about whether his memory is better than a few reporters who aren't saying much.

11:10 AM

Yes, I do see a double standard. The Far Left wants to hang Libby, Rove and Cheney but Bill Clinton got a pass from the same Far Left and wasn't Frog Marched anywhere. He did get a monetary fine and disbarment but was not convicted to hard labor. Clinon's lies were proven, so far Libby, Rove and Cheney haven't been convicted of anything.

"anon, I hold no respect for any adversary that uses lies, murder and terror to control the outcomes of its policies."

And supposedly this blog reflects directly on PJF? Hmmm. Ad hominem's may relieve the immediate sanguine emotions but hardly dent the issues to any worthwhile extent. Is this what is taught in debating class now in law school?

"Election fraud and outing of a CIA agent is treason. Deal with it. If they are not charged accordingly, someone isn't doing their job. Read the law-it is very clear."

Well, it is yet to be seen which set of righteousness ideology will prevail regardles of what I or anybody thinks. Hitler was evil but it took a long time and many dead people to fix it. This is not a cakewalk and the task is daunting to the poiont of being monumental. To trivialize your rivals is not a virtue nor will it have any impact on the outcome. It just goes to show how frustrated and impotent you all are.

If I were the current administration I would be more fearful of people who were thoroughly professional, kept their opinions to themselves and acted with deliberatness instead of wailing like brats using names like Porkrind, Turdblossom, gerbil, etc.

And I am on your side but I think that if you want to duel with someone concentrate on your aim and not whether or not you have come up with the perfect insult.

Cruise missle attacks on Aspirin factories and camel herders in the dessert. Attacks on Baghdad trying to disable Sadaam's WMD program. Bosnia, I don't think anyone has actually taken the toll on human life taken while Clinton dallied with Monica. Turning down numerous offers for Bin Laden's head because of concern for the legal ramifications. Clinton's hands are far from being clean when it comes to loss of human life.

Which makes it beyond pathetic and irrelevent. I still cannot understand why the PJF ploy though. Was that to boost the credibility of the site? Well, all you have to do is read some of the threads and that image is shattered. I really hope that PJF is NOTHING like what I read here. I hope he is a no nonsense, straight ahead, take charge, nose to the grindstone professional otherwise he hasn't a chance in taking on these savvy politicos.

And besides, it all comes down to something like perjury and does not really address the larger issues. If I was in the Bushco crowd I would read this blog and then go shoot some doves or catch a perch. That's how much impact it would have on me or on anything remotely related to me.

This is a very tough fight and if all you have in your quiver is the feathers without the arrows you will be trounced. Show the world how logical and carefully you have planned your attack. Get your thoughts together in a cohesive manner and make a presentation that is well thought out and iron clad. Isn't that the hallmark of a good lawyering? If you people are in anyway remotely connected with the SP then he is surrounded by people who cannot mount a good argument.

And while you are dissing me remember this: I am completely against this administration but am for those who can really do something about and not just blow smoke.

I said nothing about Clinton. I am a Democrat. I voted for Clinton, Gore and Kerry. I hate this current government and everything they stand for. I am one of the people to which I would think that this blog would like to have considering I am rational and not emotional about these things. Like any professional.

If you all are the great hope of the democrats then we are fucked. I wanted this site to be real, it is not. I would have preffered that the spirit of the site to be hard debating instead of angst ridden knuckle gnashing and peurile name calling. If you are the teeth of the oppositon to the neconvicts then you are toothless. If you cannot recognize a friend then you are doomed to wail in a vacuum. You are also demonstrating the extent of your intellect and I hate to tell you but those you oppose are smarter than you are showing.

Keep making mud pies while I am afraid the neoconvicts will eat your lunch. I am starting to lose heart with the left as being incapable of mounting a really strong defense if you folks represent the best we have to offer. My opinions of the Bush cadre will not change as I do believe they are power mongers into never ending abuses.

Try to figure out what the fuck you are talking about before your trigger finger goes for the "publish" button.

I just told you as a fellow democrat that you have left the house without your pants on and you have told me to go fuck myself essentially. Well, enjoy the breeze but do not expect anyone outside of your click to take any of this seriously.
