Media figures repeat false claim that Armitage role in Plame leak exonerates Libby and Rove

Summary: Numerous media figures have asserted that a recent report purportedly identifying former Deputy Secretary of State Richard Armitage as Robert Novak's original source for Valerie Plame's identity as a CIA operative prove that Karl Rove and I. Lewis "Scooter" Libby were not involved in the leak of her identity. However, Armitage's role as Novak's first source is not inconsistent with Rove's and Libby's involvement in the leak -- both were original sources of the information for two other reporters. <more>

First off Mr. Fitzgerald is too busy in Chicago, Sept. 6th is former Governor George Ryan get sentenced. Then this ongoing city Hall mess:

Feds seize data on 29 tied to HDO
September 1, 2006

BY FRAN SPIELMAN City Hall Reporter

Federal agents have taken the personnel records of 29 current Streets and Sanitation employees -- ranging from laborers to top managers -- who owe their jobs and promotions to the Daley-created Hispanic Democratic Organization, City Hall sources said.

The retrieval of the records, top mayoral aides said they think, could be a prelude to more job-related indictments and took place last week with "almost no advance warning," sources said.

Virtually all of the employees involved have ties to former Streets and Sanitation Commissioner Al Sanchez, a longtime HDO lieutenant and 10th Ward coordinator, the sources said.

Federal prosecutors suggested at a city hiring corruption trial that Sanchez and HDO chief Victor Reyes were part of the scheme to reward political volunteers with city jobs or promotions. Four men, including the mayor's patronage chief, Robert Sorich, were convicted in the trial. Sanchez and Reyes have not been charged, but their names came up repeatedly at trial.

Knew what they wanted

Investigators made quick work of getting the records last week.

"They notified us they were coming to pick them up, and they arrived" within minutes, said one source familiar with the matter. The feds did not have to execute a search warrant, though, as part of the retrieval.

"They've come fishing before. But this time, they knew exactly what they were fishing for. It looks like a prelude to more job-related indictments. Based on the time of the hires and other information, it appears the focus may be HDO and Sanchez."

Sanchez served as Streets and Sanitation commissioner for six years before being forced out in June 2005 in a scandal-induced housecleaning by chief of staff Ron Huberman.

Sanchez's lawyer would not comment on the feds' latest action and said he has had no discussions with the government. Reyes' lawyer did not return a call seeking comment.

5,700 linked to sponsors

The retrieval of records last week was similar to the one at City Hall in May 2005 when the Hired Truck scandal officially branched out into city hiring.

At that time, agents descended on City Hall to seize personnel records of three city departments: Streets and Sanitation, Water Management and the Mayor's Office of Intergovernmental Affairs. One of the computer hard drives seized belonged to Sorich. Another belonged to IGA chief John Doerrer, Reyes' predecessor.

At the city hiring trial, federal prosecutors introduced a list of more than 5,700 city job applicants linked to political sponsors. Sanchez alone sponsored more than 110 applicants. The number grew to nearly 400 when combined with applicants championed by other HDO leaders, including state Sen. Tony Munoz (D-Chicago), a political patron of convicted Hired Truck czar Angelo Torres.

Other good news in Chicago:

Charges dropped against Bulls mascot

The Associated Press
Published September 1, 2006, 5:57 AM CDT

Benny the Bull won't be headed to the Big House after all.

Prosecutors have dropped battery charges against Barry Anderson, 26, the man who dons the bright red costume for the Chicago Bulls. Anderson was arrested—in costume—July 2 after scuffling with an off-duty sheriff's deputy during the Taste of Chicago, officials said.

During the tussle, Anderson knocked the deputy's glasses to the ground, breaking them.

The charges against him were dropped last week after he paid the deputy $200 to repair the glasses, said Marcy Jensen, spokeswoman for the Cook County State's Attorney.

"He just wanted his glasses repaired," Jensen said of the deputy.

Anderson told police he was in character as Benny when he took a swing at the deputy.

He has portrayed Benny for two years, and Bulls officials say the incident won't affect his employment status.

"It was definitely just a misunderstanding, and the charges were dropped," said Bulls spokeswoman Sebrina Brewster.

This summer's run-in with the law wasn't the first for a Bulls mascot. In 2005, the man who portrayed Da Bull was sentenced to 18 months' probation for possession of cannabis with intent to deliver.

Fitz went to an all male Catholic school, is wealthy, not bad looking, and has never married, and as the son of devout parents from Ireland, is probably one of the few remaining homosexuals who can be blackmailed by threat of 'outing'.

It would explain an investigation, and then an indictment, when he already knew the 'leaker' was an internal Bush opponent. It wouldn't be odd at all that one of his brief gay flings was important in the Democrat party. He might even have been set up.

Poor man. It isn't a sin for Catholics to be homosexual if they simply remain celibate. He didn't need to fear an outing.

Well, I'd bet a few dollars Fitz is gay. No wealthy, decent looking man stays single into his mid 40s who isn't, unless he has entered the priesthood, and even then...

OK, maybe not blackmail, maybe Patrick Fitzgerald is like Andrew Sullivan, another big Anglo-Irish Catholic homosexual Bush fan who developed BDS overnight when Bush refused to support gay marriage.

Although specific details haven't yet been released, the White House announced today that President Bush would be visiting "all three sites" on the fifth anniversary of 9/11.

During a press gaggle held aboard Air Force One on Thursday afternoon, Deputy White House spokesperson Dana Perino announced the news when asked by a reporter for a "preview" of the president's planned events for the day.

RawStory.

Bush should not forget to visit the former site of building # 7. His fellow Americans and world citizens think of it often.

Richard Armitage, the former deputy Secretary of State, may be syndicated columnist Robert Novak's primary source who told him on July 8, 2003, that Ambassador Joseph Wilson's wife, Valerie Plame, worked for the CIA. But that doesn't change the fact that Karl Rove told former Time magazine reporter Matthew Cooper the same thing three days later - and then subsequently failed to tell federal investigators about it for a year.

Well this sounds alot like what happen in the Watergate case. Nixon lied to the last day " I am not a crook". As all the President's men fell. Now we have the scape goat Armitage. Libby should have charges dropped because well he lied but Armitage was the leaker so lying to FBI and Grandjury isn't wrong. The sealed indictment well it doesn't matter. Oh and Fitz's case is over. People wake up to Lady Justice. This cover up is at the heart of the White House. The media reports are to make Americans stop looking at the case. It was the same way in the Nixon case. Fitzgerald has taken an oath to be honest and work for the people. The Court Systems isn't perfect but it's all we have to fight the evildoers. Now let Justice do it's job you'll get the truth and sorry it wont be pretty.

Fitz has done a great job, thus far, and he isn't finished yet. He will get all the evildoers, in time... you can count on it!!

The scared, chickenhawks are looking for every possible way of winning this election and they know their chances aren't good.

Well, you can't please everyone in this world with comments and thoughts.. Real leaders get criticism and take criticism with stride...

Not only Fitz has done a excellent job in his case and seeking the truth in the leak case, let's not forget the people who are less recognized that are involved in the leak case such as the FBI investigators, agents, assistant attorneys and other attorneys in the DOJ office in Chicago that worked tirelessly and juggled their time to work on this case.. This is more of team effort rather than an individual effort...

In Jason's latest article, this paragraph really nails it regarding the media.. Jason is always a step above the media:

Keep in mind that Rove and Libby disseminated information about Plame to these reporters a week before Novak published his column identifying her. Since the Armitage reports surfaced last weekend, the media have seemingly ignored these facts and have tried to rewrite history by removing Rove and Libby's culpability in the matter

What is really so mind-boggling to me is how, how can these reporters stand behind, write the words for, an administration so un-American, so fascist...It has happened in so many OTHER places in the world, that we long-ago read about in history in our 7th grade lessons, in American Civ in High School, but not here. But it is "here". No wonder it's taken America so long to come around to the reality. We're stunned, and everyday stunned further by the audacity of the press, the knowledge, that this nightmare of the loss of our democracy is happening right here, right now. Ready to take us down. I applaud the two-thousand folks in the land of LDS, Mormon Country Salt Lake City, USA, for shouting out the truth of all of our Blue/Red collective fears and feelings. The Red State screamed out all of our feelings in Temple Square and that, folks, is a grand thing for Americans, for Patriots, for it must have knocked the Decider for a loop you betcha...
And let's learn a lesson from the Mexican people of Mexico tonight: if we feel our next election is stolen from us, fight like hell to get it back.
