The affair of the balcony ended, if indeed it ever began, with the appearance in July of a slender book of curious title, obtainable in very few places, one of them being an art gallery in a frosted storefront on Broadway near Franklin Street.
Called ''The B-Thing'' and produced by four Vienna-based artists known collectively as Gelatin, the book is demure to the point of being oblique. What little explanation it contains appears to have been scribbled in ballpoint. Among the photos and schematic drawings, there are doodles of tarantulas with human heads.
In short, the book belies the extravagance of the feat it seems to document: the covert installation, and brief use, of a balcony on the 91st floor of the World Trade Center, 1,100 feet above the earth. Eight photographs -- some grainy, all taken from a great distance -- depict one tower's vast eastern facade, marred by a tiny molelike growth: a lone figure dressed in a white jacket, standing in a lectern-size box.
The contemporary art world, of course, is rife with acts of subversion followed by boasting, which is known as ''documentation.'' In that context, the beauty of the balcony was that it so literally pushed the envelope. Yet since that Sunday morning in March 2000, when the balcony was allegedly installed and, 19 minutes later, dismantled, the affair has taken on the outlines of an urban myth, mutated by rumors and denials among the downtown cognoscenti.
If you are lucky, you can still find a picture of it on the web. Gelatin, they since changed the spelling of their name, at least that word ^Gelatin^ comes up in some interesting reading.

Also, Isaac directly addressed a gag order that has been placed on firemen and police officers in New York.
“It’s amazing how many people are afraid to talk for fear of retaliation or losing their jobs,” said Isaac, regarding the FBI gag order placed on law enforcement and fire department officials, preventing them from openly talking about any inside knowledge of 9-11. There is more information related to Isaac circulating in on-line and print reports, so here again we are hearing first-hand evidence from individuals who were on the scene, such as live witness William Rodriguez, saying that the World Trade Center towers were brought down not by the airliner’s impact or the resulting jet fuel fires, but instead by a deliberately executed controlled demolition.
Tragically, due to heavy-handed pressure from officials at the city, state and federal levels, we are still not hearing the entire story.
Researcher Vincent Sammartino, who was also at the WTC “open grave site” on the afternoon of Sept. 11, 2005, wrote the following on the on-line news web site APFN: “I just got back from Ground Zero. People know the truth. Half of the police and firemen were coming up to us and telling us that they know that 9-11 was an inside job. They were told not to talk about it. But they were supporting what we were doing. I had tears in my eyes.”

CHILLICOTHE, Mo. - Two prison guards were fatally shot while on duty in what authorities believe was a murder-suicide that might have stemmed from a domestic dispute.
The names of the guards were not released late Sunday night after the shootings, but they were identified as a man and a woman in their 30s who had joined the staff of the Chillicothe Correctional Center, a women's prison, this summer.
"We've never had anything of this type" happen before, said prison superintendent Jennifer Miller.
Officials declined to say which of the two fired the shots or what led to the shootings, citing the ongoing investigation.
Several people witnessed the shootings outside a building that houses a library and classroom. Prison officials said only the two guards were involved in the shooting.

"A judge today required Republican Senate candidate Bob Corker to testify and provide documents in response to a subpoena from a group of environmental activists with Democratic ties, who have filed suit over the former Chattanooga mayor's involvement in a questionable land development deal. Typically, such documents and testimony are public.
The judge ordered the information shared on Oct. 20 -- just three weeks before Tennessee voters are to decide whether he or Democrat Harold Ford Jr. will represent them in Congress. The two candidates are in a statistical dead heat, according to a new Wall Street Journal/Zogby poll.
The flap: Corker, a millionaire developer with a yen for public office, had a hand in two sides of a three-way deal to develop a Wal-Mart "supercenter" in the town of Chattanooga. His company sold land to the developers of the site -- and as mayor, his city administration allowed environmental concerns to be pushed aside in favor of the development.
Corker has tried -- and failed -- to get the case dismissed. His lawyers convinced a judge to seal certain records in the case which pertain to trade secrets or confidential financial information.
About three weeks ago, the plaintiffs subpoenaed Corker to testify and provide documents. His lawyers tried to quash the subpoena, but today a judge in Hamilton County, Tenn. refused the request.
Corker's lawyers had argued that he should be excused from testifying because he was running for office. The plaintiff's subpoena, they said, was both "unreasonable" and "oppressive.""

"Sunday's Chicago Tribune has the latest of what is turning into a very messy investigation:
The FBI is investigating allegations by the wife of Gov. Rod Blagojevich's former campaign treasurer that her state job may have come in return for a $1,500 personal check her husband wrote to one of Blagojevich's children....
The governor's office released a statement Friday saying the check was a gift for his daughter's 7th birthday from the governor's best friend and any suggestion otherwise is "simply ludicrous."
"It is an outrage that we even have to answer this question," the statement said.
Yes, you read that right. A $1,500 check to a seven year-old girl. Continuing...
Beverly Ascaridis, who has already been identified in an internal state probe as receiving special treatment to get her job, confirmed federal agents interviewed her and her husband in recent weeks about the check. It was dated within two weeks after she began her $45,000-a-year job as a state parks administrator in August 2003, according to Ascaridis and sources familiar with the investigation.
And here's where it gets really good. Ms. Ascaridis is apparently not as appreciative of her state parks gig as she should be. However close her husband is with Gov. Blagojevich, she tells The Tribune "I hate the man [Blagojevich] with every fiber of my being." So she tipped the feds.
Although Michael Ascaridis has a long-held personal friendship with Blagojevich, Beverly Ascaridis said it was the only time she's aware that such a check was written to the governor's family, and that the timing so close to her hire date raised her suspicions.
"Yeah, doesn't that seem strange?" she said.
Do yourself a favor and read the whole article. I guess the moral of the story is, if you're going to accept a payoff for doling out a state job, be sure that your crony doesn't hate you with every fiber of her being."
