Most Honest Quote Of The Week...

From the April 2 edition of Meet the Press:

MR. RUSSERT: Do you believe the American media is distorting the news from Iraq, or presenting an accurate picture?

GEN. ZINNI: "Well, I think the American media's being made a scapegoat for what's going on out there. At last count, I think something like 80 journalists have been killed in Iraq. It's hard to get outside the green zone and not risk your life, or risk kidnapping, at a minimum, to get the story. And it's hard to blame the media for no good stories when the security situation is such that they can't even go out and get the good stories without risking their lives. And you have to remember that it's hard to dwell on the good things when the bad things are so overwhelmingly traumatic and catastrophic, you know? So I think that's an unfair blame that's put on the media. I think that there probably are good things at the lower level, but are they balanced out by the bad things that are happening? All the good things happening out there will mean nothing if the unity government doesn't come together."

Another honest man who is horrified by
what these terrible people have done to our country. I watched MTP. Gen. Zinni was receiving a medal, with the VP speaking about WMD and going after Saddam. Gen Zinni stated that he walked off the stage where he received
that medal, knowing full well that the
administration had NO intention of UN involvement, and they were going to war. He was troubled by the intelligence that they were using, as he had been consulting for the military up until that time and knew
that the intelligence was "ginned up". How do these people sleep at night knowing what they've done and how they have compromised our good name in the world, our security and most importantly the lives of our kids and the Iraqi civilians that have payed the price of their little

I'm thinking if we got 50 Generals in a room we would get 50 different opinions. I put more stock in what Tommy Franks has to say.

And Iraq ? What have they done to Iraq? What have they done to the Middle East? What have they done to the World? What have they done to our future?

dr. evil,

Or should I call you by your real name - troll. But in Fitz's spirit of listening to trolls and trying to learn what their mindset is, I will comment as evenly as I can.

I have spent much of my career in rooms with lots of generals and admirals - maybe not 50 at a time, but certainly a lot - and I have always been astounded at the dedication, honesty, and patriotism of the people in the room.

They do their best to uphold their oaths to the nation and its people.
There are a few that let the stars go to their heads and addle their basic qualities, but damned few from my experience.

And they all, to a person, believe in the basic tenets of this nation - e.g., civilian leadership of the military.

Regrettably, the civilian leadership of the last few years has been abominable.

achtland....I forget that there are people from other countries here on this site. You
are absolutely right! They have created an abominable nightmare for the folks who live in the Middle East.
I feel certain it is becoming much more difficult for moderate Arab countries to continue to tolerate this mess! The question we should all fear is WHAT'S NEXT?

And the most deplorable of all, Iraq and its' people were safer before this
nightmare. We were also safer! What a monumental waste!

And Gen. Zinni is right on the money! That's an excellent quote at the end. The unity of the government needs to come together in Iraq as well as in this country. You can see how divided this country, Iraq, and other international countries. And it is truly a shame. I just hope that our country can find the unity that is desperately needed....

I saw Gen. Zinni on Tim Russert show. I spoke to a military young lady and asked what she thought of the comment. She said no one listens to Connie because she doesn't know what she's talking about. Even Gen. Zinni said her statement was covering up the mistakes of the Administration yet blaming them on the troops. He suggested that Rummy be fired. All this new information coming out as our troops are dying for lies told to them by Bush/Cheney/Rummy. Oh Grandmanuk Peaches is ok she called me. (smile) She knows I'm a nervious all the time until she lets me know she's safe.
