I Am Irish...

so I can ask this question: Mr. Cheney how many drinks did you have on the afternoon of February 11th?

Mr. Vice President, be a man and answer truthfully or we will have to ask Mr. Whittington, Ms. Armstrong, Amb. Willeford and the Secret Service detail.

Thank you for your cooperation.

UPDATE: Cheney's hunting host lobbied White HouseMSNBC - 1 hour ago... ... "There may be a beer or two ... she said, "but remember not everyone in the party was shooting.". ...
Screen shot of scrubbed story.
Uh huh, and I find it queer that MSNBC has scrubbed that quote from a piece online - either they are doing a separate story or under pressure from the most powerful man in the world.

You'll not get a straight answer from anyone of those clowns or those aiding the clowns .. not under oath or under oath.

We're all just sick of this crap which eminates from the Oval every every minute of every day.

We do really look ridiculous from within the US and outside of the US.

Why, why are they still sitting in those chairs?!

Ok -- here's the real answer:
too many and he knew it was Whittington and he shot anyway. Trigger finger and head soaked with alcohol were contributing to the finality of the pellets thrusting out of the barrel.

None of them will ever admit to that. Simply put.

I hope Cheney has been working up his resignation speech...and that it doesn't have to be delivered from Whittington's grave. Some are beginning to doubt that he even is alive, thinking we have all be strung along on a massive coverup.

I wouldn't hold my breath on that Fitz! Cheney would never be a man to tell you how many drinks he had, who leaked the CIA name, who many times he went to bathroom, how many times he said the F word, etc. If Cheney was a "REAL MAN"," (so to speak), and I mean a real man, he would level with you and be honest with you to whom leak the CIA's name and quit bobbing and weaving the question. But, Cheney is too arragant to do that.

Sorry, but I'm not reading anything else that makes me think he'd been drinking. Where did that come from? And the NY Times said a deputy DID interview him that night (not turned away as your Secret Service spokesman said).

"Sheriff Salinas said he sent his chief deputy, Gilbert Sanmiguel, to the Armstrong Ranch that night. He said Mr. Sanmiguel interviewed Mr. Cheney and reported that the shooting was an accident."

So besides "reading between the lines," what makes you think Cheney had been drinking?

UP in MI have you ever been hunting? If yes, what did you drink, diet coke?

back to basics:

when one goes 'quail' hunting, does one typically shoot at 4 to 6 feet above ground,
OR
does one shoot in the sky?

somehow I recollect seeing people shoot skeet in the sky for this very, very reason.
eh?

This ia definitely a ceverup. Need I say more? From Think Progress:

White House Cover-Up: McClellan Conceals Heart Attack From Press
For 22 hours, the White House concealed the fact that Vice President Cheney had inadvertantly shot a 78-year old man, Harry Whittington.
The White House continues to withhold critical information from the press. In a press conference today, hospital administrator Peter Banko said that the White House had been informed that Mr. Whittington suffered a heart attack between 9:30-10AM this morning.
But at today’s White House Press Briefing, which started after 12PM, Scott McClellan didn’t tell the press. CNN confirmed that McClellan “was notified [about the heart attack] just before the briefing.” But McClellan suggested to reporters that he had no new information:

Oh. OK. Got it now. Hunting = drinking. Duh. No, never been hunting. Yes, drink diet Coke. In fact, diet Coke w/lime. Nectar of the gods.

OK. Thanks for the clarification. I guess it was just that I'd never seen Elmer Fudd hoisting a Jamesons! : )

Did someone in the sheriff's department change their story? I read the same original report yesterday about the investigator being turned away.

But presumably, if he did interview Cheney that day, it was much later in the evening. If I were drinking and accidentally shot someone, I'm sure I would sober up pretty quickly. Then give me a few hours, and i could probably pass a blood test, too.

Well, to put everone to rest on whether Cheney was drink or did drink during his hunting event. This is a press release from the Kenedy County Sheriff Office dated Feb. 11, 2006 stating that the investigation reveals no alcohol or misconduct involved in the incident. But, why all the secrecy. See for yourself:

100% Irish. Grand daughter of a skeet champion/hunter. Niece, cousin, sister and friend of serious hunters. Shooting sports enthusiast, herself.

Guns and alcohol do not mix.

White trash hillbillies (north or south) may drink while they're hunting. But if they do, they are idiots.

You take up that gun, you take up an awesome responsibility. People I know who are serious about hunting and guns do not drink and hunt.

I do believe in this case, something like alcohol was involved. I don't understand the cover-up, otherwise.

At 5:30 pm, it's getting too dark to see properly. You don't know the exact location of someone in your hunting party, you don't fire your weapon. The intensity of the injury, the tightness of the pellet grouping, to me indicates it was closer range than 30 yards.

There is something about this that stinks to high heaven.

AP report still says:

Secret Service spokesman Eric Zahren said that about an hour after Cheney shot Whittington, the head of the Secret Service's local office called the Kenedy County sheriff to report the accident. "They made arrangements at the sheriff's request to have deputies come out and interview the vice president the following morning at 8 a.m. and that indeed did happen," Zahren said.

At least one deputy showed up at the ranch's front gate Saturday evening and asked to speak to Cheney but was turned away by the Secret Service, Zahren said. There was some miscommunication that arrangements already had been made to interview Cheney the next morning, he said.

anonymous your right the cops are most likely to over drink. I remember a friend who was a Judge and he had a DWI aka Dui. I realized at the court parties just how much these guys drink. Well the Judge did the right thing and when to AA meeting/taught a class about drinking and later became the Head Judge in th Superior Court. Yes we're still friends. As for the cops sorry to say most of them ended up having medial problems then death.

I think, unfortunately for Mr. Whittington and his family, his condition may be more grave than the hospital and WH are telling us. According to the NY Times, the County DA said Cheney would have to face a grand jury and the investigation would be reopened, should the injury prove fatal. The locals may know more through the grapevine about the medical situation.

Mr. Whittington's other hunting buddies are not buying the story that he was shot at a range of 30 yards. Given the seriousness of the injury, that the 7.5 lead shot penetrated his clothing (one pellet lodging in his liver), and the windy weather conditions that day, some are speculating that Cheney was a lot closer to Whittington than reported.

Cheney would have had to be closer, I paid some attention in forensics...and that is the only thing that explains the severity of the injuries.

Good morning!

For some reason I just had this scenerio in my head...Suddenly Whittington called Cheney and told him, "we need to talk about something very important"--and Cheney doesn't want to talk about it on the phone, so he suggests they go quail hunting together to discuss it.
It happened so quickly that neither got their $7 hunting stamp.

What do you think?

Good Morning Anon,

I really doubt that Cheney "forgot" to pay the $7 stamp. He is a hunting expert. As far as your scenario, Cheney and Whittington may have just gone hunting as usual. But, remember, Cheney became in the spotlight when Libby pointed the finger to hin and the Senators demanded an investigation into Cheney. So, this may have worked on Cheney's mind. Because Cheney has medical problems, we can only imagine what was going through his mind. Let's not forget that he is on medication and he was at least sips some liquor, we don't know how that affect his body. Mixing medication with alcohol is very dangerous. And since Cheney had two DWIs in 1962 and 1989 and had his first heart attack at the age of 37, Cheney is loose cannon and on borrowed time. Your question: did Cheney shoot any quail? Maybe or maybe not. But, rest assured, Cheney had a lot on his mind then and now.
