I Shot The Lawyer...

but I did not shoot no Prosecutor.

Oh, no, oh. Cheney Shoots Lawyer - News Held for 24 Hours

Often alcohol or drugs are contributing factors in these types of domestic violence cases. I will look into it.

Also, I am relieved that he didn't kill the guy since we all know that Dick is a lover, not a fighter and he deserves a lot more than a manslaughter plea.

Nice try with a diffrent version of Eric Clapton's song: "I shot the sheriff." You should probe Cheney to whether drug or alcohol was in his system when he shot his fellow hunter. And make sure that you marked the dixie cup with the urine as "Exhibit A."

I think that would be Exhibit "P"

What a day, Fitz....

Now, if he shot his own lawyer, then I think its time to arrest him. :-)

Luckily that wasn't the case yet, eh?

What a sorry poor sport....this Cheney guy has been working for a spy named Michael Chertoff, I think that deserves a few demerits aka indictments.

Did anyone give Dick Cheney a drug test? Or was he just loaded?
Maybe Dick should just give up hunting because he is one lousy shot.
Get the guns away from Dick!

Fitz,

Go to firedoglake's website. There is a funny parody picture of Cheney as Elmer J. Fudd character. You should download that picture!

It's not an Eric Clapton song...I Shot the Sheriff is a Bob Marley song.

Anon at 6:24 pm:

The song is on Eric Clapton's album in 1974 called " 461 Ocean Boulevard" I have the album. You are right that Bob Marley did write and sing that song. I was only refering Mr. Clapton from the song on his album.

Good thing they weren't elephant hunting or anything. A Holland & Holland would have done a lot more damage.

I know why the caged bird sings.

Cheney's incident should be an indication to all those this blog that when you partnered up with Satan. this is the results. We all heard about Cheney's heart problems. Now, no trial is necessary for Mr. Cheney to know that he could have taken a human life. Like the rest of us, he has to answer to a higher power to that. Mr. Cheney might not be with us at the conclusion of the CIA case. The conscience might destroy him faster than the heart.

Point well taken, Jackie. Cheney is certainly the character, Dr. Faust! Cheney sold himself to the devil. He will share the same fate as the character, Dr. Faust!

Charge Rove with conspiracy and then wait a little while before taking out Cheney.....have him spin in his courtyard thinking about all his past mistakes.

I listen to "Smoke" the raggae song. And it was slow enought for me to dance to. As to the gentleman whom Cheney shot, his injuries may seem minor but could cause the gentleman problems as pellets are hard to find in the body. Change your jogging schedule and don't anything in a pattern.

9:50 PM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

.. now I am not a hunter, so really, what kind of gun would have been used for the shoot.

? A pellet gun? Sounds unlikely.
news held for 24 hours and "fudged" / spun around, seems more like it.

He is lucky he didn't kill the guy,
however, the
"I didn't see him" sounds ALOT like
" I don't know Jack" eh?

He's a known quantity as in

Now, what would have happened had it been the otherway around, mmmm?

6 miles,

I read an article that said Cheney was using a 28 guage shotgun. Quail are pretty small, so you don't want to use anything too powerful. 28 guage isn't really very popular over here--it's more of a European round. The ammo is kind of expensive-or at least comparatively expensive. For quail or dove (or other small, short distance, low-flying game), you'd want to use a less powerful shotgun (410 or 20 guage loaded with bird shot). Birdshot means the cartridge is loaded with very small pellets that spray. In shotguns, the smaller the number, the more powerful the gun. A 10 guage is more powerful than a 28. And the same goes for the loads--the lower the number, the larger the pellets.

I think it would be hard to kill him with a 28 guage unless the barrel was in his mouth.

28 gauge is used by the purist gentlemen upland bird hunters here in the states, the tweedy set that also fly fishes as Cheney avidly does with most likely the same reckless passion.

These same wealthy "gentlemen" are known to hunt the Big 5 African species held in large remote Texas compounds for their exclusive "hunts" so in another situation a Holland and Holland or Jeffries would have not been out of the question. A .700 Nitro Express wouldn't have to be removed later which is a plus I suppose.

I was working Sunday night (writing headlines) and we had loads of laughs coming up with ones for this story. My favorite (sorry PJ): Cheney does world a favor; shoots lawyer in face.

7:25 AM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

Anon,
You are correct! There would be no "removing" the nitro round had this happened on a canned elephant hunt.

Now they're blame-shifting, saying the guy sneaked up on the shooting party unannounced and I guess, walked into the line of fire. Lots of carelessness all around.

Jeff, a commentor at Firedoglake sums it up well:

I think this is dangerous territory for Cheney et al. There is no good explanation for this, other than being drunk or stupid. Anti-gun people are going to hate the whole thing. Gun people like me are going to hate that he was such a complete idiot.

I think, as other have pointed out, that this is a microcosm of the whole administration:

1. Try to play tough, with a gun, or an army.

2. Fail to follow well-established rules, guidelines, and past experience (either out of ignorance or willful disregard, or both).

3. Get someone hurt or killed.

4. Try to keep the story under wraps for as long as possible.

5. When the story does come out, spin it so that there was no possible way the administration did anything wrong.

6. Blame someone else, where possible, blame the victim.

7. Make anyone who has a problem with it look like an un-American pussy.

According the information from the WH press conference today, there is a semi-contradiction in Armstong's story (reportedly she didn't think Cheney knew she was calling the press) and his. He says it was agreed that she would be the one to release the info.

If this was very small shot, apparently there is a danger that it can enter the bloodstream and travel. Sounds like Cheney waited until he was out of the woods on a manslaughter charge, or negligent homicide or whatever, before releasing the story.
