The BBC Rocks..!

and rolls.

MSNBC Video - Worst: 'Fair and balanced' - Countdown with Keith Olbermann

BBC - Profile: US Attorney Patrick Fitzgerald
In his blog, "From the Desk of Patrick J. Fitzgerald", Mr Fitzgerald describes himself as a long-time opponent of corruption, listing among his interests rugby and "prosecuting evil doers". "I grew up in Flatbush, kept my nose clean, went to law school," he says.
"Now that I am in Chicago and D.C. I have found... the rampant graft and corruption to be a travesty - a travesty of a mockery of a sham of a mockery of a travesty of two mockeries of a sham."
[Note: This story was updated at 0809 GMT on 16 March, 2007, removing three quotes mistakenly attributed to Mr Fitzgerald. We regret the error.]

WASHINGTON POST - GET THIS!
Those enterprising British journalists! A
profile of Patrick Fitzgerald posted on the BBC's Web site yesterday linked to, and quoted from, what it described as the Very Special Prosecutor's blog: "In Chicago and D.C. I have found . . . the rampant graft and corruption to be a travesty -- a travesty of a mockery of a sham of a mockery of a travesty of two mockeries of a sham."
Yeah . . . you guessed it. The blog? Not really his. "I think it is widely recognized to be a parody," said the prosecutor's spokesman Randy Samborn, adding that Fitz, sadly, does not have a blog.
Oh, and the hilarious "travesty of a mockery" line? A quote from Woody Allen's "Bananas."
MSNBC.COM - BANANA NEWS DU JOUR
The BBC, in profiling Patrick Fitzgerald yesterday, quoted from what it said was the Special Prosecutor's blog: "Now that I am in Chicago and D.C. I have found... the rampant graft and corruption to be a travesty - a travesty of a mockery of a sham of a mockery of a travesty of two mockeries of a sham."The Washington Post this morning, pointing out that the quote is obviously from Woody Allen's "Bananas" and the blog itself is, of course, a fake.
SLATE - TODAY'S PAPERS
The Post's Reliable Source reports that a profile of Patrick Fitzgerald posted on the BBC's Web site yesterday quoted from what it said was the prosecutor's blog: "Now that I am in Chicago and D.C. I have found ... the rampant graft and corruption to be a travesty—a travesty of a mockery of a sham of a mockery of a travesty of two mockeries of a sham." The line is actually from Woody Allen's Bananas and the blog is, of course, a fake.
MEDIA BISTRO - AFTERNOON ROUNDUP
The Reliable Source ladies report that the BBC was had by a fake Patrick Fitzgerald blog.
DC BLOGS* - SPECIAL NOTE:
"Many of the posts by the anonymous writer of From the Desk of Patrick J. Fitzgerald are witty, thoughtful and, it turns out, so good that it has left some convinced that Fitzgerald actually wrote the blog. For the latter point thank the BBC, which profiled the U.S attorney in a story on its Web site. It’s a fine profile, even if it pulls quotes from the fictional blog in the mistaken assumption that the blog has been penned by the real Fitzgerald. See the BBC story here."
"With the conclusion of the Libby case, From the Desk of Patrick J. Fitzgerald closed. If you didn’t follow this blog, it’s important to note that, for its humor, this writer was on a mission. It included criticisms of press coverage as well as respect for what Fitzgerald set to accomplish. The BBC gaffe adds a period to the point. In a note, the writer of the blog offered a reaction:
My apologies to the BBC for fooling them too…I always thought the Brits had a higher aptitude for dry wit.
Isn’t reporting factual information the number one rule of journalism? This not so flattering oversight by the BBC only reinforces the point made repeatedly on this blog: to a large degree the MSM was complicit in the selling of the War in Iraq by both their actions and inaction.
During the investigation and throughout the trial, the true colors of many publications and reporters became glaringly apparent — partisan, factually incorrect, sloppy and some might say corrupt.
If not for Joe Wilson’s Op-Ed and Fitzgerald’s investigation, the American public may never have learned this glimmer of truth on how this Administration repeatedly lied, deceived and then tried to hide the truth of why it went to war with Iraq.
This goes way beyond the sixteen words in the State of The Union Address. This is also about the millions upon millions of words not written and tough questions never asked by the media. I hope there are many lessons learned from this.
Countdown to BBC srubbing story from website … t - minus…”
Randall, nice save! I could have been fired over this, thus ruining my current visit in Ireland. I have a bottle of Jameson with your name on it, buddy! And who is Woody Allen? ;)

Oh, this is too fantastic. I will be in London in May and regale my friends with this story.

It also shows how a rumor can come out like fact. In our case, it was to support and honor a terrific public servant, vent a little, share some information, and most of all to know there were others out there who believe in truth and justice.

"We write to request that the U.S. Department of Justice immediately appoint an outside special counsel to assume the Department's investigation into alleged illegal contributions by Mr. Thomas Noe to federal and state political campaigns. In light of recent disclosures that Governor Taft's office, which is a subject of the investigation, made a direct political appeal to Karl Rove for Gregory White, the U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Ohio to receive his job, there is little doubt that this is a textbook case for the appointment of a special counsel." "Gonzales took no action in appointing a special counsel in the Gregory White case."

What crimes, corruptions and evil are still hidden that we do not have knowledge about? Every branch of government and department should be made open to the eyes of the public immediately.

Fitz I know the real you will be watching from afar, and I just had a comment, inner confessions.

I feel the political parties are ultimately powerless to resolve this situation, as I belong to neither, and they are all still compromised by the same menacing force.

But in that vein, I am hopeful to see you still applaud the efforts of the Jury.

A Jury is Justice

So I hope that all of these crimes will be made public, no longer secret, and the unflintering stench of the American Turkish Counsel is laid bare.

I hope we can, through the power of Jury nullification and duty, force the Senate/Congress and its mainstay to convict these criminals and with it may Cheney be forever finished.

As I am very clear and make no mistake of, we will have to fight and force them to finish the job.

But we can finish these criminals if we do the job, and we simply let the Jury process take its course.

Grand Juries in every place, every locality of every creed, will permanently stop AIPAC or the American Turkish Counsel. It will put the real culprits into prison, and it will get very ugly.

But it is our only true vestige, those that believe in the power of law will lay bare the facts of who Sibel Edmonds is and all witnessed.

As that will bring conclusion and resolution, so that this never happens again- and so that Europe can also make sure it never happens again.

Kucinich! Very powerful from today–this video features Dennis Kucinich asking Valerie Plame about links to the White House.

Kucinich: Did you know what happened to Secretary O’Neil . . . was falsely accused . . . investigated . . .

In another instance . . . Gen. Shinsecki . . . dismissed

The case of Richard Foster . . . told he would be fired if he told the truth . . . about drug benefits

These . . . seem to be part of a larger pattern . . .

I wonder if Gonzo isn't packing up his pink panties. I think that the next few years will be hell on these guys. I wish they could pull their secret service security. Barney would probably bite him if he knew he wouldn't get shot. I hope Fitz is sharpening up his teeth. The congress should give him vast powers to thoroughly investigate all matters of Whitehouse wrong doing. The Republicans passed a law before they went out that exempted Bush from being held for war crimes. Question is was this legal. Sounds like Racketeering to me. I'm not a lawyer but I know our rights have never been what they should be but it seemed like we were headed in the right direction. Then 911 happened and we now have police action laws on the books. Halliburton has just completed a huge concentration camp in Wyoming called Swift Luck Greens. The sick part is that the dining hall is named honoring the Nazi Financial Backer Prescott Bush. That is where the Bush haters get to eat. The Prescott Bush Memorial Hall. With their backs against the wall BushCo may covertly attack Congress and try to seize control of the country. He has fired all Generals that won't support his policy. Most have just retired. These people have shown nothing but contempt for the constitution and the people. They have robbed us blind and left a lot of us homeless. He acts as if he and Cheney are Dictators. I believe as do a lot of others that 911 was an inside job. Bush has never told the truth to us about anything. Why would we believe him about 911. They refused to testify under oath. Condi lied to congress. Then got caught. They lied and used manufactured evidence. Buildings don't just free fall at gravity speed with no resistance unless the supports are blown out with carefully placed explosive cutting charges and traces of thermate was found in the molten steel samples taken from WTC. Building 7 wasn't even hit and it just disappeared within seconds. That was the Pearle Harbor they, PNAC signatories, were waiting for. Hell they stole the Election in the first place. What did we expect.

Sounds like the damage done by these criminals was really severe, hearing even Michael Hayden confirm she and Brewster Jennings were under cover NOCs was a big sight.

Is Gonzo Smurf finally finished, like Prosecutor Biloxi has been hinting at?

If he cleans out his desk and his "drawers", where may ever we find a honest, and actual career replacement?

Can Biloxi be attorney general? Hah or perhaps, Fitzgerald....

Don't need another worthless political hack in the A.G. Position.

Once the smoke clears, I say put somebody in there that is honest and will help in the process of cleaning out all this corruption.

Corruption of the American Turkish Counsel and all of the, total crap, instead of obstructing investigations. We need the Jury to all finish their job, and the main Jury who can still set this right, is the new Congress. Put 'em all to work and nail them down!

http://www.baltimorechronicle.com/2007/031507Palast.shtml

"In 1999, while investigating Governor George Bush of Texas for the Guardian papers of Britain, I obtained an extraordinary, and extraordinarily confidential, memo to the US Attorney's office in Austin. It disclosed that, in 1997, Governor Bush secretly suggested to the chairwoman of the Texas Lottery Commission that she grant a contract to the client of a Bush ally.

The Governor's back-door demand to the Lottery chairwoman was not so easy. Bush wanted the Lottery to grant a multi-billion dollar contract to GTech Corporation. But GTech hadn't even bid on the contract - and a winner was already announced.

There was only way for the Chairwoman to carry out the fix: fire the director of the Lottery who had discouraged GTech from bidding because of its history of corruption.

The Chairwoman, Harriet Miers, did the deed: fired the Lottery director; Miers then ignored the winning bid -- and gave Bush's favored company the contract, no bidding, in perpetuity."

GTech, not to be confused with P-Tech.

Wasn't there another U.S. Attorney fired in Washington State by Bush now speaking out? Hope he educates his students in his teaching job.

"Any White House employee who has knowledge of the loss or possible compromise of classified information should report the circumstances to the EOP security officer," 5 CFR Section 1312.30,

which position Dr James Knodell has occupied sicne August, 2004.

Did any WH employee during that time bring to Knodell's attention the Plame's covert status leak?

Did Fliescher? Did Rove who were both aware of the leak.

Apparently not. Here's how Waxman learns from Knodell how he became aware of this breach of security:

REP. WAXMAN: Mr. Knodell, I want to ask you about whether the White House officials complied with this requirement after the disclosure of Mrs. Wilson's identity. Let me start with the former White House Press Secretary, Ari Fleischer.
Mr. Fleischer had conversations with Walter Pincus of The Washington Post and David Gregory of "NBC News" about Ms. Wilson's identity. These conversations took place in July 2003. Almost immediately it was clear that Ms. Wilson's identity was classified information. Mr. Knodell, the regulations require Mr. Fleischer to report what he knew about this disclosure to you. Did he do that?
[Following a brief digression…}

MR. KNODELL: Mr. Chairman, that happened before my tenure in this current position. I began this position in August of 2004.

REP. WAXMAN: Mm-hmm. Well, do you -- are you aware of whether the report was made by Mr. Fleischer to your predecessor?

MR. KNODELL: No sir, I'm not, Mr. Chairman.

REP. WAXMAN: Are you aware if there's any investigation that ever took place in the White House about the release of this classified information?

MR. KNODELL: I am not.

REP. WAXMAN: Do you know whether Karl Rove, the president's senior political adviser, came forward and reported what he knew about the breach of Mrs. Wilson's identity? After all, we learned that Mr. Rove talked about her identity with at least two journalists, Robert Novak and Matthew Cooper of Time Magazine.
MR. KNODELL: Mr. Chairman, I have no knowledge of any investigation within my office.

REP. WAXMAN: Okay. How long have you been in that office?

MR. KNODELL: Since August of 2004.

REP. WAXMAN: Since August of 2004 -- two-and-a-half years. And were you aware in the last two-and-a-half years that this was an issue for which there was a lot of concern?

MR. KNODELL: Yes, Mr. Chairman. I was.

REP. WAXMAN: Did you learn that from people in the White House?

MR. KNODELL: Through the press.

DUBLIN, Ireland -- American prosecutors increasingly have to be aware of other countries' laws, Patrick Fitzgerald, Chicago's U.S. attorney, told a gathering of lawyers here Friday.

One example would be a prosecutor trying to go after a child molester who puts footage of his actions on the Internet. A prosecutor would need to be familiar with the laws of the country in which the transmission originates, Fitzgerald said.

"We used to think of prosecutions of conduct happening outside the United States as coming once in a blue moon, but I think we're going to start seeing this a lot more frequently," Fitzgerald said.

Taking the tougher route

When Fitzgerald went to Kenya in 1998 to investigate the bombing of the U.S. Embassy there, he and his team decided to follow both American and Kenyan law until they decided which country they would file charges in.

"If there were two ways of doing it, we would do it the harder way so it would stand up in court in either place," he said.

That meant that instead of letting a witness sit behind a one-way mirror and point out a suspect from a lineup of six people, as U.S. law requires, witnesses had to come face-to-face with a lineup of nine people, then walk up and place their hand on the shoulder of the suspect they identified, as required under Kenyan law.

Kenya does not guarantee suspects the right to an attorney, and the New York judge who tried the case was not satisfied Fitzgerald's team had satisfied their obligation under American law to educate the suspect of his right to an attorney and so dismissed some parts of the man's confession.

But both suspects were convicted anyway.

Took no class

Fitzgerald was one of the 63 percent of American lawyers who took no international law class in law school.

"I thought that was for students who studied Spanish or French. When you're from Brooklyn, you're working on English as your first language," he quipped.

The audience of mostly American lawyers at the Chicago Bar Association-sponsored seminar included Mike Madigan, speaker of the Illinois House of Representatives, and eight current and former state and federal judges.

Fitzgerald Ranked During Leak Case
Justice Dept. Fired 2 With Same Rating

By Dan Eggen and John Solomon
Washington Post Staff Writers
Tuesday, March 20, 2007

U.S. Attorney Patrick J. Fitzgerald was ranked among prosecutors who had "not distinguished themselves" on a Justice Department chart sent to the White House in March 2005, when he was in the midst of leading the CIA leak investigation that resulted in the perjury conviction of a vice presidential aide, administration officials said yesterday.

The ranking placed Fitzgerald below "strong U.S. Attorneys . . . who exhibited loyalty" to the administration but above "weak U.S. Attorneys who . . . chafed against Administration initiatives, etc.," according to Justice documents.

The chart was the first step in an effort to identify U.S. attorneys who should be removed. Two prosecutors who received the same ranking as Fitzgerald were later fired, documents show.

Fitzgerald's ranking adds another dimension to the prosecutor firings, which began as a White House proposal to remove all 93 U.S. attorneys after the 2004 elections and evolved into the coordinated dismissal of eight last year, a move that has infuriated lawmakers and led to calls for Attorney General Alberto R. Gonzales to resign.

The Justice Department last night gave the House and Senate Judiciary committees 3,000 pages of new documents related to the firings, including one e-mail that says Gonzales was "extremely upset" by Senate testimony Feb. 6 from his deputy, Paul J. McNulty. Gonzales felt that "some of the . . . statements were inaccurate," the e-mail says.

Justice officials said Gonzales specifically disagreed with McNulty's statement that a Little Rock prosecutor was fired to make way for a GOP operative. They also said the new documents show that political motivations were not a factor in the firings.

The latest revelations came amid reports that the White House has already launched a search for Gonzales's replacement and that support for the attorney general among Republicans in Congress is fading fast. One GOP strategist with close ties to the White House said last night that it is likely Gonzales will leave and that White House counsel Fred F. Fielding already has potential replacements in mind.

White House press secretary Tony Snow offered tepid support for Gonzales, saying President Bush still has full confidence in his longtime friend and ally. "We hope he stays," Snow said.

The March 2005 chart ranking Fitzgerald and other prosecutors was drawn up by Gonzales aide D. Kyle Sampson and sent to then-White House counsel Harriet Miers. The reference to Fitzgerald is in a portion of the memo that Justice has refused to turn over to Congress, officials told The Washington Post, speaking on the condition of anonymity because the Fitzgerald ranking has not been made public.

At the time, Fitzgerald was leading the independent probe into the leak of the identity of a CIA operative, which led this month to the perjury conviction of former vice presidential aide I. Lewis "Scooter" Libby. Fitzgerald, the U.S. attorney in Chicago, also had recently brought a corruption indictment in Illinois against former Republican governor George H. Ryan.

A Justice Department official yesterday sought to play down the importance of Fitzgerald's ranking, saying the chart was "put together by Sampson and is not an official department position on these U.S. attorneys."

Sampson resigned as Gonzales's chief of staff last week, and his attorney declined to comment yesterday.

Mary Jo White, who supervised Fitzgerald when she served as the U.S. attorney in Manhattan and who has criticized the firings, said ranking him as a middling prosecutor "lacks total credibility across the board."

"He is probably the best prosecutor in the nation -- certainly one of them," said White, who worked in the Clinton and Bush administrations. "It casts total doubt on the whole process. It's kind of the icing on the cake."

Fitzgerald has been widely recognized for his pursuit of criminal cases against al-Qaeda's terrorist network before the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks, and he drew up the official U.S. indictment against Osama bin Laden. He was named as special counsel in the CIA leak case in December 2003 by then-Attorney General John D. Ashcroft, who had recused himself.

Fitzgerald also won the Attorney General's Award for Distinguished Service in 2002 under Ashcroft.

Justice spokeswoman Tasia Scolinos said yesterday that "Pat Fitzgerald has a distinguished record as one of the most experienced and well-respected prosecutors at the Justice Department. His track record speaks for itself."

But Fitzgerald also came under sharp criticism from many Republicans and press advocates for his aggressive pursuit of the Libby case.

The March 2, 2005, memo from Sampson came in response to a proposal floated by Miers to remove all U.S. attorneys during Bush's second term. Fitzgerald was placed in a middle category among his peers: "No recommendation; have not distinguished themselves either positively or negatively."

Although the ranking meant Sampson was not recommending those prosecutors for removal at the time, two U.S. attorneys who received the same ranking were fired last Dec. 7: Daniel G. Bogden of Nevada and Paul K. Charlton of Arizona.

Two prosecutors who were listed in the top category on Sampson's chart were also fired: David C. Iglesias in New Mexico and Kevin V. Ryan in San Francisco.

Two administration officials said Fitzgerald was never included on later lists of U.S. attorneys targeted for removal by Sampson, who has been portrayed by administration officials and documents as being in charge of the firings effort.

Sampson's memo was among more than 140 pages of documents sent to congressional investigators last week, but the names of most of the prosecutors and their rankings had been deleted. Senate Judiciary Committee investigators have been demanding an unredacted version of the memo, but the administration has refused to provide it, according to a Justice official and a Democratic Senate aide.

Administration officials said they do not know why Sampson put Fitzgerald in the "not distinguished" category. Bush said last year that Fitzgerald had done "a very professional job" in the CIA leak investigation.

The thousands of pages of documents released last night highlight the tension among the highest officials at the Justice Department as they struggled to cope with the firings and the resulting public outcry.

In the wake of McNulty's Feb. 6 appearance before the Senate Judiciary Committee, Gonzales was furious with how the deputy attorney general characterized the departure of Little Rock U.S. Attorney Bud Cummins, which was explained as a move to insert Tim Griffin, a former White House political aide, into the slot.

In an e-mail, Justice's deputy communications director, Brian Roehrkasse, wrote to Sampson and another aide: "The attorney general is extremely upset with the stories on US attys this morning. He also thought some of the DAG's statements were inaccurate. . . . I think from a straight news perspective we just want the stories to die."

Roehrkasse said in a statement last night: "The Attorney General was upset because he believed Bud Cummins' removal involved performance considerations and it was that aspect of [McNulty's] testimony the Attorney General was questioning."

Another e-mail exchange shows that Sampson and McNulty aide Michael Elston did not want the fired federal prosecutors to testify before the Senate committee, a position that seems to support an allegation by Cummins that Elston threatened to retaliate against the former U.S. attorneys if they continued speaking out. Justice officials said last night that McNulty later verbally told Elston to not take a position on testimony.

On Dec. 5, two days before seven U.S. attorneys were fired, McNulty admitted in an e-mail to Sampson that he was having second thoughts about firing Bogden, the U.S. attorney for Nevada, whose record provided no obvious performance issues or policy differences. McNulty also said he had not reviewed Bogden's performance before including him in the dismissal group.

"I'm a little skittish about Bogden," McNulty wrote. "He has been with DOJ since 1990 and, at age 50, has never had a job outside of government. My guess is he was hoping to ride this out well into '09 or beyond. I'll admit [I] have not looked at his district's performance."

The e-mails detail some of the personal and financial hardships the fired prosecutors have been going through -- particularly Margaret Chiara of Grand Rapids, Mich., who begged for help finding another job.

GOLFER AT AN IRISH GAS STATION

Taking a wee break after a round of golf, a golfer drives his new Mercedes into an Irish gas station.

An attendant greets the golfer in typical Irish manner, ... "Top o' the mornin to ya".

As the golfer gets out of his car, two tees fall out of his pocket.

"So what are those things, laddie?" asks the attendant.

"They're called tees," replies the golfer.

"And what would ya be usin 'em for, now?" inquires the Irishman.

"Well, they're for resting my balls on when I drive," replies the golfer.

"Aw, Jaysus, Mary an' Joseph!" exclaimes the Irish attendant. "Those fellas at Mercedes think of everything..."

I think there may be a big reason for that, if you don't mind me saying so.

Something really reeks in the office of the Vice Presidency, something that just doesn't go away no matter where you stand from....

Something called....treason. Deliberate and unlawful dismantling of a Central Intelligence Agency operation, and then hiding the documents, thinking he would get away with it.

Then it appears every other attorney besides me, was fired.

Hmm, I think the law about Special Prosecutors needs to be restored as well.

The Senate should repeal it. The law of the Independent Special Prosecutor should be restored, so that any further criminal charges that have to be issued are issued.

Fired U.S. Attorneys led the Nation in Convictions. No Wonder the Bush Administration was Worried!
Submitted by BuzzFlash on Wed, 03/21/2007 - 1:12pm. Analysis

A BUZZFLASH NEWS ANALYSIS

Every day, the explanations for the firings of the eight U.S. attorneys are becoming less about competence and more about corruption. Some new statistics show that the prosecutors were in fact leading the nation in output:

* Six ranked in the top third of all U.S. attorneys for prosecutions, filing a combined 106,188 last year alone

* Five ranked in the top third for convictions, achieving 98,939

* Three were among the top five in the number of immigration prosecutions (including Carol Lam, whose firing was attributed to immigration by Karl Rove)

Now these were some busy folks. It is almost a wonder that the fired U.S. attorneys had the time to take the phone calls notifying them of their dismissals. MORE.....

In September 2006, just weeks before pivotal Congressional midterm elections, Paul Charlton, US Attorney for Arizona, opened a preliminary investigation into Republican Representative Rick Renzi of the state's First Congressional District for an alleged pattern of corruption involving influence-peddling and land deals. Almost immediately, Charlton's name was added to a blacklist of federal prosecutors the White House wanted to force from their jobs. Charlton is someone "we should now consider pushing out," D. Kyle Sampson, Attorney General Alberto Gonzalez's chief of staff, wrote to then White House Counsel Harriet Miers on September 13. In his previously safe Republican district, Renzi had barely held on in the election. On December 7, the White House demanded Charlton's resignation without offering him any explanation.

Charlie Sheen, Rosie Involved In 9/11 Documentary - accesshollywood.com

NEW YORK (March 22, 2007) -- Charlie Sheen has been lined up to take part in a 9/11 documentary, his reps confirmed to Access Hollywood.

Sheen is involved in the production of "Loose Change," a new version of a documentary suggesting the US government was behind the 9/11 World Trade Center attacks. The current version of the documentary is availabe on YouTube.

The actor's reps declined to reveal more details about Sheen's involvement in the project, but Page Six reports he will be narrating a new version of the film.

In an interview on the Alex Jones Show on the GCN Radio Network a year ago, Sheen expressed his views on 9/11 saying, "It is up to us to reveal the truth. It is up to us because we owe it to the families, we owe it to the victims. We owe it to everybody's life who was drastically altered, horrifically that day and forever. We owe it to them to uncover what happened."

Page Six also reported "The View" moderator Rosie O'Donnell is involved in the project, though it was unclear what her role would be.

Pelosi Bows To AIPAC -
Greenlights Bush's Iran War

By Patrick J. Buchanan

3-22-7

If George W. Bush launches a preemptive war on Iran, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi will bear responsibility for that war.

For it was Pelosi who quietly agreed to strip ... a provision that would have required President Bush to seek congressional approval before launching any new war on Iran.

According to John Nichols of The Nation, Pelosi's decision to strip the provision barring Bush from attacking Iran without Congress' approval "sends the worst possible signal to the White House."

"The speaker has erred dangerously and dramatically," writes Nichols. Her "disastrous misstep could haunt her and the Congress for years to come."

Nichols does not exaggerate.
If Bush now launches war on Iran, he can credibly say Congress and the Democrats gave him a green light.

The Washington Times agrees as to who bully-ragged Nancy into scuttling any requirement that Bush come to the Hill before unleashing the B-2s on Arak, Natanz, and Bushehr:

"Last week, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi received a smattering of boos when she badmouthed the war effort during a speech to the American Israel Public Affairs Committee, and the Democratic leadership, responding to concerns from pro-Israel lawmakers, was forced to strip from a military appropriations measure a provision meant to weaken President Bush's ability to respond to threats from Iran."

Pelosi gets booed by the Israeli lobby, then runs back to the Hill and gives Bush a blank check for war on Iran, because that is what the lobby demands. A real candidate for Profiles in Courage.

Well, well...should have known there was an insurance company behind tainted pet foods. Isn't that what happened with 9/11, the various banking collapses and frauds?

Wonder if there will be millions of "pork money" stashed in bills for the war, like they did for peanut storage and spinach growers? Wonder if that was insured too? The triple-dipper? Drive stocks down so someone or the same buys it up, collect insurance fraud money, sometimes fraud on top of fraud money, and get "pork" from Congress.

Democrats or Republicans, who cares? Stop the corruption, evil, fraud, and murder!

3:05 PM
Blogger Stephanie said...

And more:

As for the presidential candidates, it is hard to find a single one willing to stand up and say: If Bush plans to take us into another war in the Mideast, he must first come to Congress for authorization. And if he goes to war without authorization, that will be impeachable.

All retreat into the "all-options-are-on-the-table" mantra, which is another way of saying, "It's Bush's call."

The corruption of both parties is astonishing.

Republicans used to be the party of the Constitution: "No more undeclared wars! No more presidential wars!"

Democrats used to be the party of the people. The people don't want this war. They don't want another. The Jewish community voted 88 percent for Democrats in November, and 77 percent oppose the war in Iraq.

Yet, just because the Israeli lobby jerked her chain, the leader of the Peoples' House has decided she and her party will leave the next war up to Bush.

Sam Rayburn must be turning over in his grave.

The war in Iraq was sold to us with false information. The area is more dangerous now than when we entered it. We destroyed a regime hated by our direct enemies, the jihadists, and created thousands of new recruits for them. This war has cost more than 3,000 American lives, thousands of seriously wounded, and hundreds of billions of dollars. Bush Paves the Way for Martial Law: 2007 National Defense Authorization Act overturns Posse Comitatus Act

Thu, 22 Mar 2007 12:18:00

By Bob Avakian

In October 2006, Bush signed into law the John Warner National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2007. Quietly slipped into the law at the last minute, at the request of the Bush administration, were sections changing important legal principles, dating back 200 years, which limit the U.S. government's ability to use the military to intervene in domestic affairs. These changes would allow Bush, whenever he thinks it necessary, to institute martial law--under which the military takes direct control over civilian administration.

Wasn't there British soldiers caught in Iraq by Iraqi police dressed up like insurgents ready to bomb something? Did American soldiers do this too? Did we kill our own troops and innocent people to keep the war going? Don't British and American agencies trade off doing deeds for each other?

Common sense says the Iranians are telling the truth but of course, when was the last time citizens were told the truth in this country?

Anon 9:00AM I have done extensive research and yes they have been caught more than once in Iraq-makes me wonder if its special forces doing that or more likely Blackwater!

Eric Prince should be taken down that unAmerican punk. He should pay for this war right next to Rummy Cheney and the rest.

There is a lot more to his story than the media is telling. He grew up in McLean, VA and used Daddy's connections to start in "security".

I know men like him and they are ruthless. If you are not one of them, they have no problem dehumanizing others. Ask the folks they "assisted" in Katrina. The bastards held guns on the Guard (who didn't have any!) and told them to leave (wasn't SAFE enough for the Guard) Guard was bringing water and supplies! They refused to let them into New Orleans for days! Prince operates a truly criminal enterprise-he can thank his lucky stars I'm not a prosecutor or he would be on my list of bad guys...

There is an article in Chicago tribune on the net if it's not fake re : Patrick Fitzgerald. I doubt he's ever seen your blog and probably isn't allowed to read his own mail. The CIA or others likely gather it from the mailroom at the bond federal building before he know's it there.

The chicago trib states he's totally loyal to the Bushies .

He is probably happy to be back at his desk job.

He will not be appointed Att. Gen if Gonzlales is fired. REference guilty verdit on Libby.

He will never be Vice president. Listen to him on CNN reading of transcripts. He's not political material.

Also , someone else had ulterior motives other than giving a false voice to Patrick Fitzgerald on the blog.

And they were not all political.

Too bad Fitz doesn't have a clue or maybe he should write a book.

'Mediocre' jab doesn't faze Fitzgerald

March 23, 2007
BY NATASHA KORECKI
Federal Courts Reporter

U.S. Attorney Patrick Fitzgerald has heard no shortage of jokes about a recent revelation that a top Department of Justice aide rated him as "mediocre."
Fitzgerald tried to take it in stride in his first media availability since returning from winning a conviction against Vice President Dick Cheney's top aide, I. Lewis Libby, in Washington, D.C.

Not 'one toe in that pool'
"Look, really it's not that big a deal to me," Fitzgerald said. "I just do my job . .. I think I've done the best job I can and that's all I can expect myself to do."
Fitzgerald sidestepped questions about a growing scandal in Alberto Gonzales' office over the firing of eight U.S. attorneys nationwide.

"I've just stepped out of the D.C. fishbowl and I'm not looking to plunge back in," Fitzgerald said. "There's no way I'm putting one toe in that pool and not going head first."

Attorney General Alberto Gonzales and U.S. Attorney Johnny Sutton, both already under siege for other matters, are now being accused of failing to prosecute officers of the Texas Youth Commission after a Texas Ranger investigation documented that guards and administrators were sexually abusing the institution's minor boy inmates.

Among the charges in the Texas Ranger report were that administrators would rouse boys from their sleep for the purpose of conducting all-night sex parties.

"Last November, Army Spc. Edgar Hernandez, a communications specialist with a unit of the Army's 3rd Infantry Division, had surgery on an ankle he had injured during physical training. After the surgery, doctors put his leg in a cast, and he was supposed to start physical therapy when that cast came off six weeks later.

But two days after his cast was removed, Army commanders decided it was more important to send him to a training site in a remote desert rather than let him stay at Fort Benning, Ga., to rehabilitate. In January, Hernandez was shipped to the National Training Center at Fort Irwin, Calif., where his unit, the 3,900-strong 3rd Brigade of the 3rd Infantry Division, was conducting a month of training in anticipation of leaving for Iraq in March.

Hernandez says he was in no shape to train for war so soon after his injury. "I could not walk," he told Salon in an interview."

Last summer, federal agents investigated allegations of abuse following a riot at the Evins Regional Juvenile Center in Edinburg. The findings of that investigation are still pending, as is a multimillion-dollar civil rights lawsuit filed by several students. Statewide, the agency suffered a 48 percent turnover rate among staff last year. The recidivism rate for inmates, Harris told the panel, is hovering around 50 percent. Yet Harris was clearly not prepared when Sen. Juan Hinojosa, a Democrat from McAllen, asked about an alleged case of sex abuse by staff members at the West Texas State School in the rural town of Pyote west of Odessa.

The incident was a particularly ugly one, though few people outside the Permian Basin have ever heard of it. Following an investigation by the Texas Rangers and the FBI in February and March 2005, two of the highest-ranking officials at the school—the assistant superintendent, Ray Brookins, and the principal, John Paul Hernandez—were accused of having sexual relations with several students over an extended period. Both men denied the allegations, but investigators collected dozens of statements from students and staff, conducted polygraph tests on students, and collected DNA samples from semen-stained carpet and furniture at the school, according to a TYC inspector who assisted with the investigation. Yet there has been virtually no mention of the case in the media since the two men resigned nearly two years ago, nor have there been any arrests. Harris told the Senate panel that the investigation was closed. He also asserted it was the agency that alerted the Texas Rangers to the case and that his staff had done everything in their power to address the problems at Pyote.

You search until you are sure it is not a hoax.

They took the same type of dismissive action in a 2005 case involving Ray Brookins, a former assistant superintendent of the West Texas State School in Pyote who has been accused of having sex with incarcerated teenage boys there, internal Youth Commission documents confirm. In that case, an investigator at the school substantiated a report of sexual abuse, authorities said, but the finding was changed to unconfirmed after it reached Austin.

The Travis County inquiry is one of seven separate investigations into allegations of sexual abuse and cover-ups involving the Youth Commission. Lawmakers are scheduled to begin hearings today on the scandal. Gov. Rick Perry appointed a special master last week to run the agency, and law officers, auditors and other authorities were sent to all of the agency's facilities on Tuesday to secure them and begin investigating.

By Wednesday, they had learned that David Andrew Lewis, 23, was employed as a correctional officer at the Coke County Juvenile Justice Center, a privately run lockup in the West Texas town of Bronte that houses teenage lawbreakers for the Youth Commission.

Lewis was convicted in 1999 of indecency by exposure with a 5-year-old girl, according to a Texas Department of Public Safety Web site listing sex offenders.

Because he was a juvenile at the time, Lewis was sent to a Youth Commission facility, where he served an indeterminate sentence. After his release, he registered as a sex offender in June 1999, according to the Web site. He is required to register annually.

Cover-ups, blackouts, pay-offs, and hidden behind 'national security'.

You know, I have grown up — I grew up with nothing but my integrity.” This coming from a man whose early career as counsel to then-Gov. George W. "WASHINGTON (Reuters) - An
FBI agent was warned to keep quiet about the dismissal of a U.S. attorney after he told a newspaper her firing would hurt the agency's ongoing investigations and speculated politics was involved, a U.S. Senate panel heard on Tuesday.

FBI Director Robert Mueller defended the handling of the incident, saying: "I do not believe it's appropriate for our special agents in charge to comment to the media on personnel decisions that are made by the
Department of Justice."

'POLITICS INVOLVED?'

Carol Lam, who helped win the 2005 political corruption conviction of then-U.S. Republican Rep. Randy "Duke" Cunningham of California, was among seven prosecutors fired on December 7.

On January 13, the San Diego Union-Tribune quoted Dan Dzwilewski, head of FBI's San Diego office, as saying Lam was crucial to ongoing investigations. "I guarantee politics is involved," he was quoted saying.

Feinstein said her chief counsel had called the FBI's San Diego office to verify the accuracy of the story. She said the office confirmed it was true "but they also said they'd been warned to say no more."

Mueller said he had heard about the article and followed up.

"Well, my understanding is that our chief out there believes he was misquoted (and) ... that our investigations were continuing, without any diminishment," he said.

What is Mueller hiding?

Well, well..more news about the anthrax attacks and guess who got contracts?

"Julie Doolittle was working at Buckham's offices in 2002 when Buckham introduced Brent Wilkes to her husband. Federal contracts for his flagship company, ADCS Inc., were drying up, partly because the Pentagon had been telling Congress it had little need for the company's document-scanning technology. So Wilkes was trying to get funding for two new businesses.

One was tied to the 2002 anthrax scare, when tainted letters were sent to Capitol Hill. Wilkes' idea was to have all Capitol Hill mail rerouted to a site in the Midwest, where ADCS employees wearing protective suits would scan it into computers and then e-mail it back to Washington.

He called his proposed solution MailSafe – similar to the names of several anti-anthrax companies launched at that time – and began vying for federal contracts, even though the company had little to its name other than a rudimentary Web site.

The House Administration Committee, on which Doolittle sat, oversees the congressional mail system. Doolittle told his colleagues about MailSafe and introduced them to Wilkes, but the project never got off the ground."

Notice the morning news shows aren't showing Gerbil's wisecrack about the fired USAs. His crack about lawyers wasn't funny, although it is lawyers who help save his butt, and take away our freedoms, and tear apart the Constitution.Notice he doesn't say a word to the lazy, pathetic MSM about the sexual abuses of boys in Texas. Wonder how far spread these abuses are in this country and covered up? We know it happened in Florida.

Rove's attempt at slapstick was not amusing, there is an illegal war going on with more deaths of our sons and daughters every day along with reporters, contractors not to mention the innocent Iraqis we were suppose to liberate. How ironic with the British soldiers shown eating and smoking and then Tony Blair outraged, spouting Geneva convention, saying it is illegal? and he has "proof". How ironic the U.S. is fanning the flames.

Get the PACs out of Congress, boycott the news media till they decide to act like one. Put Karl under oath, with a transcript, open to the public and ask the hard questions. Office furniture anyone?

I have created a website, Friends of the American Revolution, using Wordpress, a rival blogsite creator.

It consists of several pages devoted to such themes as tyranny, war, oil, events, people, places, documents, writings, friends etc.

It's purpose is to support the efforts of true patriots, as many English friends of the Revolution did during the Revolutionary War, in their struggle against what I vcall the counter-revolution.

Please visit it.

Think Progress » White House switching to private email.

"White House switching to private email.

Via Muckraker, U.S. News reports that “just a week after E-mails in the U.S. attorneys case became a main focus of congressional Democrats probing the firings, several aides said that they stopped using the White House system except for purely professional correspondence.” But rather than use RNC accounts, “they have subsequently bought their own private E-mail system through a cellular phone or Blackberry server. When asked how he communicated, one aide pulled out a new personal cellphone and said, ‘texting.’”

Weird, I keep thinking about Tom Cruise for some stupid reason. Must be the all his "advertising" of his blackberry and carrying on about his and Katie's pending love child...ala leak time.

My National Security Letter Gag Order - washingtonpost.com

"I found it particularly difficult to be silent about my concerns while Congress was debating the reauthorization of the Patriot Act in 2005 and early 2006. If I hadn't been under a gag order, I would have contacted members of Congress to discuss my experiences and to advocate changes in the law. The inspector general's report confirms that Congress lacked a complete picture of the problem during a critical time: Even though the NSL statute requires the director of the FBI to fully inform members of the House and Senate about all requests issued under the statute, the FBI significantly underrepresented the number of NSL requests in 2003, 2004 and 2005, according to the report."

why were they gagged?

Common Ground Common Sense > Abramoff Scandal _

The other shoe is about to drop on the Republican leadership, now reeling from the indictment of House Republican Leader Tom DeLay and the imminent indictments coming down from the Plame Grand Jury. Abramoff's influence-peddling operation out of the Greenberg & Traurig law firm are connected to multiple Washington scandals, the nexus of which is lobbying that either illegally benefited Republicans or which alledgedly cheated that law firm's clients. What is less well understood is that Ambramoff also served as the registered Washington lobbyist for the Government of Pakistan and is a fixer for Saudi moneymen tied to al-Qaeda and other terrorist groups. Abramoff is further implicated in the financial looting of giant Tyco International, a case that has ties to the Bush Justice Department.

Is this true? Did the news report this? Wasn't Atta on that boat gambling?

Tillman's mom to ESPN: 'They were lying to us' - CNN.com

Shot intentionally?

Mary Tillman said she was not excluding the possibility that her son was shot intentionally.

"Pat was used," she said. "Once he was killed, I think they saw this as an opportunity." She noted that April 2004 was the worst month up to that time in the year-old Iraq war, and the shooting occurred right after the Abu Ghraib scandal broke.

The latest investigation "only presented the points of view of the soldiers in the vehicle" who fatally shot her son and an Afghan soldier and wounded two others, she said.

"They never brought into play what the other witnesses said," Mary Tillman said.

I going to believe the version I seen long ago, before the 'spinners' got to the story.

Getting shot in the head 3 times is hard to believe it was 'friendly'.
