Libby ends short defense testimony

The testimony phase of the long-anticipated trial of former White House aide I. Lewis "Scooter" Libby ended with a whimper rather than the bang of testimony from high-profile defense witnesses like Vice President Dick Cheney and Libby himself.

Libby's attorneys rested a trimmed down defense Wednesday after the judge barred much of their classified evidence because Libby decided not to testify in his perjury trial.

Special Prosecutor Patrick Fitzgerald wrapped up the government's rebuttal in minutes. <more>

Good morning Fitz & everyone.

I don't think the fact that Libby & Cheney didn't take the stand really matters much. Enough was said at the trial to show who the rats and mice are. I would not testify if I were them either. Doing so would only implicate them further or perjur them, because you only have 2 choices: to tell the truth or lie. Even the extra evidence the jurors heard that is now inadmissible won't make any difference. Like Walton said - if Libby didn't testify it would be suicide.
