Another One Bites The Dust...

Rep. Ney Agrees To Plead Guilty

WASHINGTON, Sept. 14 — Representative Bob Ney, Republican of Ohio, has agreed to plead guilty to federal criminal charges related to his dealings with the corrupt lobbyist Jack Abramoff, lawyers and others with knowledge of the investigation said Thursday.

A guilty plea would make Mr. Ney, a six-term congressman, the first member of Congress to admit to criminal charges in the Abramoff investigation, which has focused on the actions of several current and former Republican lawmakers who had been close to the former lobbyist.

People with detailed knowledge of the investigation said Mr. Ney had entered an in-patient rehabilitation center in recent days for treatment of alcoholism, making it uncertain whether he would appear at a court hearing to announce the plea. Lawyers and others would speak only anonymously because of concern they would anger prosecutors.

They said the agreement with the Justice Department — and the exact criminal charges, which are expected to include conspiracy and false statement — would be disclosed in Washington as soon as Friday and would probably require Mr. Ney to serve at least some time in prison. <more>

I'll drink to that! Just say "No, thank you!" to graft and too much free booze!

Hmmmm...

"Another person familiar with the department’s investigation said that at least one of the criminal charges in Mr. Ney’s guilty plea would involve the accuracy of his claim in a House financial disclosure statement that he won $34,000 in a private London casino during a trip in 2003.

Those winnings were also under scrutiny by the Justice Department, in part because the amount of the winnings coincided to a surprising degree with the amount of debt outstanding on Mr. Ney’s credit cards. Mr. Ney’s host on that trip was a Cyprus-based aviation firm that was seeking Congressional support for sales of airplane parts to Iran.

Before he became entangled in the Abramoff scandal, Mr. Ney was seen by colleagues as positioning himself to rise in the House Republican leadership.

Considered affable and doggedly loyal to the Republican Party’s agenda in Congress, he got as far as chairman of the House Administration Committee, a post in which he controlled the allotment of office space on Capitol Hill and management of the House cafeteria and other services.

But in January, he was pressured to give up the committee post; Republican leaders said they feared the assignment had brought undue scrutiny to the corruption accusations facing Mr. Ney and other Republicans.

Apart from the notoriety he received from the Abramoff scandal, Mr. Ney may be best remembered in Washington for his decision to label French-fried potatoes sold in the House cafeteria as “Freedom Fries” as a protest over the French government’s refusal to support the American invasion of Iraq."

Very interesting for Mr. Ney he maybe naming more than Sun Cruz Casinos, it looks like he may be naming names overseas too!

Lots more on the details of Ney's trip

Gotta wonder now how many guilty pleas they can cop.....I say for any official engaged in bribery, or election fraud to steal their way into office.

10 years in prison, does not matter which party!

That needs to end once and for all.....then the people, can focus on the real malice. The psychotic behavior of this Administration and clean out all the real crap.....

How many lawmakers in the last year have, run roughshod over the law instead of curtailing the abuses of Dick Cheney & the psych ward?

How many lawmakers have accepted bribes, things of value and fattened their pocketbooks instead of providing answers for an outraged population about those damn voting machines?

Or about Iraq for that too?

And about the ridiculous agenda of the White House funny farm??

Looks like these lawmakers and I bet Conrad Burns were involved in something pretty shallow......

t's been five years and the Bush regime has not done that. Instead, the War on Terror is reduced to taking off our shoes in airports, hoping we can bomb Muslims into loving America and chasing journalists around the bayou. Meanwhile, King Abdullah, the Gambino of oil, whose princelings funded the murderers, gets a free ride in the President's golf cart at the Crawford ranch.

"In early August, Ney ended his reelection campaign citing concern for his family's well-being amidst the negative publicity he received for his connections to Abramoff."

I think this is the one positive fact for Ney..
these others waiting to fall should follow this lead...they should care about their wife, children , and grandchildren...wearing the scarlet A for the rest of their lives....

And that is why the GOP party is divided and messed up. Arlen Specter just adds fuel to the fire to his own party and voters that they want a change.. Specter has held his position too long and his ass needs to be removed. The unemployment line is calling his name out. His mindset is back in the FDR days and those days been long gone...

Or burn Ney's rug and use the toupee particles for smoking.. After all, the prison mates can't smoke a joint to get high so why not replace Ney's rug for that. LOL!

I know that's right. He's waiting for gerbil to give him the new deal, but the new deal will turn out to be more death, destruction, bigger deficits, and total destruction of our Constitutional Republic(The CFR hates when you say that)..

Constitutional Republic!
Constitutional Republic!

They really hate the days before 1913-1914 and their Foreign Fed Bank When Americans were truly free!
