Karl Rove Indicted on Charges of Perjury, Lying to Investigators
By Jason Leopold
t r u t h o u t Report

Dashingly handsome and very (my edit) Special Prosecutor Patrick Fitzgerald spent more than half a day Friday at the offices of Patton Boggs, the law firm representing Karl Rove.

During the course of that meeting, Fitzgerald served attorneys for former Deputy White House Chief of Staff Karl Rove with an indictment charging the embattled White House official with perjury and lying to investigators related to his role in the CIA leak case, and instructed one of the attorneys to tell Rove that he has 24 hours to get his affairs in order, high level sources with direct knowledge of the meeting said Saturday morning.

Robert Luskin, Rove's attorney, did not return a call for comment. Sources said Fitzgerald was in Washington, DC, Friday and met with Luskin for about 15 hours to go over the charges against Rove, which include perjury and lying to investigators about how and when Rove discovered that Valerie Plame Wilson was a covert CIA operative and whether he shared that information with reporters, sources with direct knowledge of the meeting said. [

I have never been known as one who spills my candy in the lobby, but Friday was a very long day AND Karl is guilty as sin AND this grand jury hates evil doers as much as I do - so you can draw your own conclusions! Please allow me to go back to enjoying my romantic picnic. ;)

Have a great weekend.

CNN -- A federal judge on Friday set former White House aide I. Lewis "Scooter" Libby's trial date in the CIA leak case for January 2007, two months after the midterm congressional elections. The trial for Libby, who faces perjury and obstruction of justice charges, will begin with jury selection January 8, said U.S. District Judge Reggie B. Walton.

WASHINGTON (AP) -- In a new court filing, the prosecutor in the CIA leak case revealed that Vice President Dick Cheney made handwritten references to CIA officer Valerie Plame -- albeit not by name -- before her identity was publicly exposed.

The new court filing is the second in little more than a month by Special Counsel Patrick Fitzgerald mentioning Cheney as being closely focused with his then-chief of staff, I. Lewis Libby, on Bush administration critic Joseph Wilson, who is married to Plame.

With the two court filings, Fitzgerald has pointed to an important role for the vice president in the weeks leading up to the leaking of Plame's identity.

In the latest court filing late Friday, Fitzgerald said he intends to introduce at Libby's trial in January a copy of Wilson's op-ed article in The New York Times "bearing handwritten notations by the vice president." The article was published on July 6, 2003, eight days before Plame's identity was exposed by conservative columnist Bob Novak.

The notations "support the proposition that publication of the Wilson Op Ed acutely focused the attention of the vice president and the defendant -- his chief of staff -- on Mr. Wilson, on the assertions made in the article and on responding to those assertions."

The article containing Cheney's notes "reflects the contemporaneous reaction of the vice president to Mr. Wilson's Op Ed article," the prosecutor said. "This is relevant to establishing some of the facts that were viewed as important by the defendant's immediate superior, including whether Mr. Wilson's wife had 'sent him on a junket,'" the filing states.

The reference is to the fact that the CIA sent Wilson on a trip to Africa in 2002 to check out a report that Iraq had made attempts to acquire uranium yellowcake from Niger.

Wilson concluded that it was highly doubtful an agreement to purchase uranium had been made.

The Bush administration used the intelligence on supposed efforts by Iraq to acquire uranium from Africa to bolster its case for going to war.

After the invasion, with the Bush White House under pressure because no weapons of mass destruction had been found in Iraq, Wilson wrote the op ed piece for The Times. In it, he accused the Bush administration of exaggerating prewar intelligence to exaggerate an Iraqi threat from weapons of mass destruction.

Defending the administration against Wilson's accusations, Libby and presidential adviser Karl Rove promoted the idea that Wilson's wife, Plame, had sent him on the trip to Africa. Administration critics have said such a move was an attempt to undercut Wilson's credibility.

The prosecution's court papers also stated that Cheney told Libby around June 12, 2003, that Wilson's wife worked at the CIA, a month before her identity was outed.

From Thinkprogress:

Cheney’s handwritten notes on Wilson revealed.

"Vice President Cheney’s handwritten notes, disclosed in a new court filing by Patrick Fitzgerald, show that he was “acutely focused” on smearing Joseph Wilson. Among the questions Cheney jotted in margins of Wilson’s op-ed: “[D]id his wife send him on a junket?”

A followup to the filing on Cheney's handwritten notes. I read his notes and this is what is says word for word:

“Have they done this sort of thing before Send an ambassador to answer a question?”

“Do we ordinarily use people out pro bono to work for us?

“Or did his wife send him on a junket?”

http://www.talkingpointsmemo.com/docs/cheney-notes/

Sounds like Cheney was clearly focused on Wilson. and notice that he mentions Wilson's wife which tells you that he knew!!!

This is the real Patrick J. Fitzgerald's blog. Some of his staff do contribute to his posting and website. The documents that are on this website is actual public inofmration... This is not Jason Leopold's website. Leopold is a free lance journalist of Truthout.org. Now, a PJF's clone??? I guess I find that as a compliment since Fitzgerald is a brilliant attorney. I will have to try to reach that type of standard as an attorney. I rather be called a clone of PJF than the clone of the Gerbil!!!! I couldn't imagine that. Folks,

Here are the news:

First entry:

This is too funny. But, I have the commend the journalist for calling Rove's attorney: Robert Luskin!

My Non-Conversation With Robert Luskin

"Jason Leopold's article today reporting Rove has been indicted was filled with such unique detail. I wanted to know if it was true. Who better to ask than Robert Luskin, even though I don't know him from Adam. I got his phone number from Jason, and here's what happened. Shorter version: I doubt I'll ever do this again."

"7:55 pm. I just got off the phone with Rove's lawyer Robert Luskin. I'm sure I made a new enemy. I called at 7:47 pm my time which is 9:47 his time. In a run-on sentence, I introduced myself as a criminal defense lawyer and said I was calling about Jason Leopold's article because if it wasn't true, I wanted to write that it wasn't true. He said, "Why are you calling me at 10:00 on a Saturday night. It's so inappropriate." I apologized and said because it's an important story and if it's not true I wanted to say so. I looked at the clock on my computer and saw it was 9:48 or so his time.
He said something like "It's completely not true and you shouldn't be calling me at 10:00 on a Saturday night. You should be calling Mark Corallo [Rove's media strategist.]"

"But here's the thing. I didn't even have a chance to explain which of Jason's articles I was writing about or that Jason had reported Rove was indicted. For all I know, Luskin hasn't seen that article and his denial pertained to an earlier article written by Jason."

"Luskin continued to chastise me for calling so late on a Saturday night, saying "This is Washington, you don't call people at 10:00 on a Saturday night." I apologized again and said I was in Denver and it was two hours earlier and it hadn't occurred to me that it would be too late to call Washington. He said "Well it should have occurred to you." I asked if I could call him tomorrow. He said "No" and hung up.
Now you know why I always say I'm don't break news, I analyze it. I made an exception because I knew this would be a big deal in the blogosphere and I simply wanted to verify or refute it given that the mainstream media had not reported on it despite a few hours passing since Jason's article went up on Truthout."

"I did leave a voice-mail message for Mark Carrallo but I doubt I'll get a return call. And no, I'm not going to call either of them back. I'm going back to what I do best, link, analyze and opine based on others' news reporting and information from sources I know personally."

More on Hookergate:

What's $20,000 Per Night Between Friends?
By Paul Kiel - May 13, 2006, 12:57 AM

"Earlier this week, The Wasington Post reported that part of the investigation into Dusty Foggo's relationship with Brent Wilkes was that Wilkes had picked up the tab for a number of the vacations the two took together.
Foggo's lawyer countered that these weren't gifts: they shared the costs. "One time [Foggo] would pay the airfare. Another time Brent would pay it."
Wilkes' lawyer agreed - they traded off:
Wilkes's lawyer, Nancy Luque, backed that account yesterday, saying that on one trip to Europe the families stayed at Foggo's house in Frankfurt, while on another to Hawaii they stayed at a rental home paid for by Wilkes. In the latter case, she said, Foggo chipped in by paying for dinners.
Hmm. But what would you say if you heard that rental home cost $20,000 per night?
From the Wall Street Journal:
People with knowledge of the case have said the prosecutors also are looking at evidence that Mr. Wilkes had given Mr. Foggo expensive gifts in recent years, including lavish, expense-paid trips with his family to Hawaii and Europe.
One person with knowledge of the case said a European trip included the rental of a castle in Scotland, and a Hawaii trip included a stay at a resort that cost more than $20,000 per night for the two families.
Oh, but Foggo "chipped in by paying for dinners." I'm sure it all washed out in the end, right?"

http://www.tpmmuckraker.com

And I guess the dinners that Foggo split the cost on were Happy Meals from McDonald's, right?

Off beat news:

Al Gore is showing his humorous side on SNL live. The joke is on the Gerbil. A major payback from Gore after the 2000 Presidential stolen election. From Crooks and liars, here is an excerpt of Gore's script:

"Saturday Night Live," opened their show tonight with Al Gore addressing the nation as if he was the President of the United States. Gore was focused and quite funny in this entertaining spoof of the current administration and their long range of failures. He also parodied himself and the media (when they falsely claimed he said he created the internets) by saying that he invented an Anti-Hurricane and Tornado Machine.

Announcer: And now, a message from the President of the United States.
President Al Gore:
Good evening, my fellow Americans. In 2000 when you overwhelmingly made the decision to elect me as your 43rd president, I knew the road ahead would be difficult. We have accomplished so much yet challenges lie ahead.
In the last 6 years we have been able to stop global warming. No one could have predicted the negative results of this. Glaciers that once were melting are now on the attack. As you know, these renegade glaciers have already captured parts of upper Michigan and northern Maine, but I assure you: we will not let the glaciers win.
Right now, in the 2nd week of May 2006, we are facing perhaps the worst gas crisis in history. We have way too much gasoline. Gas is down to $0.19 a gallon and the oil companies are hurting. I know that I am partly to blame by insisting that cars run on trash.
I am therefore proposing a federal bailout to our oil companies because- hey if it were the other way around, you know the oil companies would help us...

Anon,

Regarding the Geneva Conv, the United States did break the Geneva rule and once the U.N. completes their investgation and finds that the United States is guilty, the Geneva law will be null and void which will lead to Russia having a free for all. Which tell you the incompetance of Condi Rice as the National Security adviser and Secretary of State. The treaties Nuclear Arms agreement and torture of prisoners (John McCain's era).. these treaties would become null and void also... Gonzo has really put American citzens especially those who travel internationally and National Security in jeopardy! And far as Gonzo, I never heard anyone that stupid in his position would do some of things that he is doing especiallly his defending the Gerbil on demestic spying. I know that there will be more talks and investigation into Gonzo... there is got to be someone else in that WH that is pulling Gonzo's strings....

"Phone is busy" and stay away from that "hooker" stuff. When I said that the phone would be off the hook, my grandfather used to do that when he didn't want to be bothered with people. One time, I was visiting him and the phone rang and the phone was right next to him. He answered the phone and told the person over the phone that he was busy and to call him back in one hour. He was watching the news of course. Then, he left the phone off the hook! I asked him why was he is leaving the phone off of the hook? He told me that he didn't want to be disturbed by people! And he also said that if someone wants to reach him, they should write him a letter!!! My grandfather did not like phones!!!

Yup, Grand Pops era is gone.. I only told that story because my grandfather used to do that. He passed away 14 years ago and I remembered that story and if it were yesterday. Your are right. We are in the information age and technogy. But, the Gerbil and company had turned this country into the version of George Orwell's book: "1984." We would never believe in the year of 2006 that our country is turning into totalitarianism. I had read Orwell's "Animal Farm" Huxley's "Brave New World" and "A Clockwork Orange" in high school. I thought back them that the world would never be like any of the books that I read. And look what is happening now just like Sting's song. people need to wake up before it is too late!

Roger:

Yup, Gonzo is open to obstruction of justice. But, with the house of cards falling from the Gerbil Admininstration so fast, who is to say that some WH official may squeal on Gonzo or Fitz may tie Gonzo into the leak case and Gonzo will have to testify under the oath. And there Gonzo will be in trouble and get caught!
