The Good Fight...

Ex-DOJ employees spar with administration

Attorney General Alberto Gonzales knows well the ways of sparring with the Senate Judiciary Committee, but increasingly he is facing an uncommon and more effective adversary: former Department of Justice career attorneys who are out to settle the score with Gonzales and the administration.

After months of scandal, firings and some testimony from Gonzales that many on Capitol Hill found wholly unsatisfying, these ex-Justice Department employees are taking a rare step and fighting back. <mas>
Think "rope-a-dope."

Sorry, I posted the above cite link on the wrong thread.

About politics and lawyering and the fate of our Republic.

You folks need to talk to former Illinois Senator, Peter Fitzgerald (no relation to PJF) who fought to get Pat Fitz to Illinois.

Peter Fitz has thrown in the towel and declined to run for a second 6 year term.

WHY?

I'm waiting for him to comment on a regular basis, on what he sees from his new home in Virginia. Like Claudius, I want Peter Fitz to tell us what he sees going on in Rome..er DC.

Celeste Aida

P.S. If he is on-line, and posting under a nom-de-net (from non-de-plume) what's his name and where is he posting?

And the ex-employees are just getting started.

Outstanding...I never think of it as advocacy, think of it as doing civic duty. Who could argue with that;D

As dedicated former DOJ who better to know where the reforms should be than these people? Gonzo should be nervous since he's done wrong to those much smarter than himself.

What is Pete Fitz doing these days? It's a shame he decided not to run.

The original Claudius couldn't stick by party lines either. But he didn't throw in the towel.

Time for Pete Fitz to come back to the forum?

But first, speaking of Pete Fitz...why did FatfartKarl say Peter's name instead of Pat's name when he tried to rap? Plus, one occasionally sees this in print, I thought it was a typo, unless....

Mr. and Mrs. Peter Fitz and son, are alive and well, living in VA.

Pete Fitz's wife was ignored by almost everyone in DC, they made no friends. If it had been only the two of them, husband and wife, they probably could have withstood the pressure. But they have a son, and he was getting the "shunning" too.

Peter Fitzgerald is the PATRON who brought Patrick Fitzgerald (no relation) to Illinois. It was met with overwhelming opposition, from everone, especially his own party. But the rules are, the Senator whose party holds the majority chooses the U.S. Attorney. Senator Durbin (D) was fuming, since he had longer tenure, but the rules are the rules. Rove knew that and hated Pete for that.

Rove sees Pat as a tool of Pete's to get back at the Bushl-Cheney-Rove machine. I think he's wrong.

Peter Fitzgerald is not vindictive.

Peter is a rightous dude. He dosen't talk smack and he dosen't need smack. He is independently wealthy, banking money, a scion of the ruling class from Inverness, IL.

A funny thing happened on the way back to the forum, he decided he loved his wife and son more than politics.

Gonzo has certainly ruined the integrity of the Department of Justice. He especially ruined the Civil Rights Division of the DOJ. It is very differcult for hardworking USA, Assistant Attorneys, paralegals, and so on to embrace and uphold the justice system when their own boss doesn't. Thanks to Gonzo, future grads in law school will be very reluctant to apply for the DOJ. And I wonder how Gonzo sleep at night with ruin the entire DOJ and justice system.

so, no return? Perhaps there will be a standing Republican party after the Bush Empire and cohorts bite the dust, so to speak.

Wonder if he will reconsider. It would be a measure that the bushconian (bush/draconian) era is over.

Well, all I have to say is it's about time the public servants on the legislative level start standing up and speaking out. The public needs to know what is really happening in our government. We need them to give pushback against things that they know are wrong and let us know about it also so that we can get involved. Remember, "...by the people, for the people"?

Good evening all, very interesting comments. Tonight some retired police officials were discussing the current state and they too, planning to speak out as an org.
Gonzo's antics have enraged law enforcement. At this point, they are aware he is a walking cartoon with a title he doesn't deserve. How can we accept the precedence of allowing an AG who lies under oath? (and unitary authority?) No thanks!

"There's got to be other people out there with qualities similar to PJF, who are willing and able to jump into the political arena."

"Similar to PJF"?

The gods would never allow it! Pretenders? Imposters?

The gods would only allow PJF into their arena.

PJF was the one who challenged those beloved by the gods and was unmoved by their stories of past good deeds.

PJF was the one who exacted judgement and punishment on those beloved by the gods.

The gods have a score to settle with PJF and they will grant him passage to their arena.

The gods have a point to prove.

By PJF being honest and just, PJF has said he is like the gods. And to punish him, the gods will invite him to greatness. In order to put him in his place, to destroy him.

Those whom the gods seek to destroy, first they make great.

It's like Einstein: because Einstein challenged authority, he became an authority

PJF's call.

He hasn't backed off in the past.

But he needs that extreme and volcanic energy that only the companionship of a soul mate can provide. A transcendent relationship, beyond superficiality. A mystical abyss that connects with the god's abyss.

aside: Cat Stevens is on Sunday Morning, CBS.

"Morning has broken, black bird has spoken....Moon shadow...you're only dancing on this earth for a short while...the first cut is the deepest...I left my happy home, to see what I could find out..peace train..."

I love music, the arts. Opera first!

Huckabee on CBS, Face The Nation, I've been invited to meet with Huck, by his family/friends. "Give Hope (AK) another chance!" Huck once was in Texarkana, TX, a minister I've been told. Lost a ton of weight, runs, and lived in a trailer. Law enforcement loves him.

I'm not sure I want to get back into politics again. Since 1994, it's become even more predatory.

Kill Or Convert, Brought To You By the Pentagon

Alec Baldwin became a right-wing, born-again Christian after the 9/11 attacks, and now is the star of Operation Straight Up (OSU), an evangelical entertainment troupe that actively proselytizes among active-duty members of the US military. As an official arm of the Defense Department's America Supports You program, OSU plans to mail copies of the controversial apocalyptic video game, Left Behind: Eternal Forces to soldiers serving in Iraq. OSU is also scheduled to embark on a "Military Crusade in Iraq" in the near future

I'm just not seeing exactly how this a different from the so-called "Islamofascists" who say all those different must convert or die

Not to worry, it's the "passion" of a child. Nothing more.

[So little is known of him.... ]

I'm at peace with that.

Do you think you know Bush? I often speak to researchers at the National Archives. They tell me that Bush is a good reader. He has an interest in historical documents and letters.

He reads the other father-son Presidents; the Adams. He reads those letters and documents. I don't know if he has gone to the Adams library in Quincy, MA.

Bush also reads the documents of the founding fathers. And those pertaining to Lincoln and the Civil War.

So the researchers report to me.

If I were a guy, I'd sit down and have a beer with him.

I always heard on the media that Karl Rove was/is fanatical about the type of reading you just described. Not Bush.

I would find it hard to believe that Bush has developed a taste for it during the past few years.

Cheers.

Rove is reported to read biography and history. Extensively.

Bush is specific, it was reported to me that he does not wander about in the archives. He knows what he's looking for. He is focused on the Adams, father and son, founding fathers, Lincoln and the Civil War.

I have heard that History is the weaving together of Biographies.

I don't go to bars.

I drink water and fizzy water, usually a Pellegrino.

Tea from Argo tea house.

A Jamba Juice. Coffee, rarely.

For supper I had cereal with lots of blueberries and cold milk.

No breakfast or lunch today. I forgot to eat.

I wear a simple gold wedding band when I am out in public, alone.

If a man tries to flirt with me, I smile and show him my wedding band, and he backs off.

It's not dishonest.

It's self-protection.
