Just Like A Good Neighbor...

Tim Russert is there.
Memo to Tim: Dick Cheney controls you.

This delicious morsel about the "Meet the Press" host and the vice president was part of the extensive dish Cathie Martin served up yesterday when the former Cheney communications director took the stand in the perjury trial of former Cheney chief of staff I. Lewis "Scooter" Libby.

Flashed on the courtroom computer screens were her notes from 2004 about how Cheney could respond to allegations that the Bush administration had played fast and loose with evidence of Iraq's nuclear ambitions. Option 1: "MTP-VP," she wrote, then listed the pros and cons of a vice presidential appearance on the Sunday show. Under "pro," she wrote: "control message."

"I suggested we put the vice president on 'Meet the Press,' which was a tactic we often used," Martin testified. "It's our best format." <

Abu Gonzales has some explaining to do...

Senate Judiciary Chairman Pat Leahy (D-VT) dressed down Attorney General Alberto Gonzales last week over the case of Maher Arar, the Canadian citizen whom the U.S. seized and sent to Syria where he was tortured.

Gonzales stumbled when trying to explain why he couldn't discuss the matter, finally promising Leahy a secret briefing on the matter. Leahy still hasn't gotten the briefing, although he says he expects to have one very soon.

BTW, I meant to ask, what does the expression "buy a pig in a poke" mean? It sounds very Irish. You would think Rove would come to mind as a pig in a poke, but it's funny Fitzgerald described Ari Fleisher, who I take to be Jewish, with those words too.

Blogger Phx said...

naschkatze,

Pig-in-a-poke refers to a scam originating in the Late Middle Ages, when meat was scarce, but apparently rats and cats were not.

The scheme entailed the sale of a "suckling pig", in a "poke" (bag). The wriggling bag actually contained a cat, not particularly prized as a source of meat, which was then sold unopened to the victim.

Final Posting. Sorry, I am a bit tired today. Was a long day for me today. This had me dying laughing. This is an excerpt from Jim Lehrer show between Jim, Brooks and Shields:

This is a discussion about UnCheneyed Melody's interview with Blizer:

JIM LEHRER: What do you think of that, David?
DAVID BROOKS: Oh, now we're returning to planet Earth.
DAVID BROOKS: Enormous success? What is he talking about?
You know, I don't know anybody else in the administration that talks that way. Where is he?
DAVID BROOKS: And I do think, seriously, he is a bit isolated now within the administration.

LOL!

And this conversation was about the Gerbil:

JIM LEHRER: Well, in an interview the president did, the president himself did, three or four days before that interview, he said, we have had slow failure here, and conceded all kinds of mistakes, and would have been willing to probably have done even more. And the vice president is saying something just the opposite.
What is going on?
MARK SHIELDS: He has got an enormous emotional, I think, personal and intellectual stake in this war.
But listening to him talk about the tremendous successes reminds me of the story of the fellow -- the husband who comes down at 6:00 in the morning. And his wife says, where have you been all night?
He says, I got home at 1:00 and I didn't want to disturb the household, so I slept outside in the hammock. And she said, I took down the hammock last week.
And he said, you have got a choice. You can believe me or your own eyes.
And that is what it is about Iraq. You can believe the vice president or our own eyes. I mean, people do not see this as a tremendous success. And I really do think it is self-isolating to continue to talk like that.

Hi, again. Not really surprised about MTP. I don't watch it since W invaded, but have seen clips and references in articles. I got the drift. What is so unreal to me is that so many people were hypnotized by this administration and are just now starting to come out of it. I am thankful for that.
Cheney and Rove are going to be interesting in court, to say the least. They will probably try to wrestle each other under the bus.It will be fun to read the blow by on that one.

I watch Meet the Press on Sunday morning. Nice to know it's the most watched show. Now as for Tim testifying well it only needs to tell the truth and that's it. PBS today said they learned alot about how the White House sets up the reporters and media. They will pay more attention and try not to be caught in the web of the White House's tricks and lies. The White House knows that NBC wouldn't play ball with the lies so they set out to give false information to NBC reporters. I noticed none of the stations that are in the WH back pocket were used.

Even if the case is dismissed and no further actions or investigations follow, which is highly doubtful, the people were allowed to speak through a great team of Americans led by Mr. Patrick J. Fitzgerald. For once, in six years, the people's interests were defended. That in, and of itself is a great accomplishment under this oppressive dictatorship.
I will at least know that someone fought the good fight for the little guys like me.As for the evil that these men have done, they will answer for their crimes at some point in this life or in the next. However,my duty to speak out remains.I will not be silent. There are too many people dying all over the world as a result of this plot to go to war. It is wrong. It will always be wrong. Nothing anyone says or does will change that. The issue goes way beyond the issues of this trial.

If this is how candidates get their money and then are slaves to other countries then don't do what most citizens want...peace and humanity for all, then Hillary can stuff it. It's odd anyway how the Republicans almost want to see Hillary win, why?

Corporations and campaign funds like these should be outlawed. So should laundering money through donations, the American people have awoken to the dirty tricks. The free trips to other countries to gain perks ought to go too for the Congress people.

I meant, I hope no-one harms him (for example, poisons him) before he spills the beans.

That (the bean-spilling) would most likely happen after he is convicted and before he is sentenced.

I think the video on CBS site has been taken down now too of ”Battle for Haifa Street”. youtube pieces still work though. The Pentagon and MSM are making sure Americans don't see what is happening.
