Law lord attacks 'totalitarian' Bush regime
Joshua Rozenberg
London Telegraph
Thursday, November 30, 2006
A former law lord last night accused the Government of prosecuting a "lawless and outrageous" war in Iraq and condemned the Bush administration for behaving like a "totalitarian police state". Calling for troops to be pulled out of Iraq, Lord Steyn, in a lecture to the Bar Council's law reform committee, said it was "a black day for the rule of law" when Lord Goldsmith, the Attorney General, advised Tony Blair in 2003 that an invasion would be lawful.
Lord Steyn, 74, said last night that Mr Blair was an "ever compliant ally" of the Bush administration, a view he has aired several times in the past.
"Our prime minister backed the Bush administration in regard to its so-called war on terrorism, however lawless and outrageous the means adopted," he said. The war "was an invasion by the US and Britain, without Security Council approval, of a sovereign country in a region of high social, religious and political tensions. It always was a reckless adventure against which the Foreign Office warned."

The Gerbil + the Pharoah = unwilling to change
Despite the Democratic congressional victory and James Baker's independent commission, President Bush seems unwilling to make major policy changes on Iraq.
Tony Blair is not Hitler: official
ASA rules on No2ID advert
John Oates
The Register
Thursday, November 30, 2006
An advert showing a close-up picture of Tony Blair with a barcode on his top lip was not offensive, the Advertising Standards Authority has ruled.
The advert appeared in The Guardian newspaper with the strapline: "ID cards have worked well in Europe before." Eight people complained that they thought the barcode made Blair resemble Hitler.
The ASA said although the ad may be offensive to some "it was unlikely to be seen as making a serious comparison between Tony Blair and Hitler but instead as highlighting a lobbying group's opinion that ID cards should not be introduced because of the threat to civil liberty they posed".

I let the soldiers I know say they can thank Cindy Sheehan when the troops finally come home-cause dubya never had any intention of ending it.
Fitz I bet you will be glad when the leak stuff is done. You know inquiring minds will want all the details

Thanks for that one, s-q. It made me laugh for the second time in one day, which is quite a record for me.
The first time was when my line manager, head of modern foreign languages at the school where I teach, had a go at some girls who were refusing to go into his lesson.
"Don't get you knickers in a twist!" said one.
"I wish you'd get your tongue in a twist," he replied, making me laugh out loud.
It kind of defused (diffused?) the situation, and they went willingly into his lesson.

Another ass that should have all his dirty secrets exposed to the world.
Iraq/Iran/Syria will kick the US troops out of Iraq. No need to have Bush do anything. Watch the new leaders crush Bush/Cheney team.
There are 150,000 troops in Iraq, and the entire 5th fleet with four aircraft carriers sitting in the Persian Gulf. We may pull back some troops, but I doubt if we are leaving. This flagrant show of power is an accident waiting to happen...
