One other thing- if you were born with mercury in retrograde, be aware that the planets have now returned to mercury in retrograde. This means alot of mis-communication and rumours etc. Retrograde mercury babies will understand other retrograde babies, non-retrogade babies will make no sense to us, and we usually feel a little nutty anyway.

The White House confirmed on Tuesday that the Pentagon had decided, in a major policy shift, that all detainees held in US military custody around the world are entitled to protection under the Geneva Conventions.
The FT has learned that Gordon England, deputy defence secretary, sent a memo to senior defence officials and military officers last Friday, telling them that Common Article 3 of the Geneva Conventions – which prohibits inhumane treatment of prisoners and requires certain basic legal rights at trial – would apply to all detainees held in US military custody.
This reverses the policy outlined by President George W. Bush in 2002 when he decided members of al-Qaeda and the Taliban did not qualify for Geneva protections because the war on terrorism had ushered in a "new paradigm…[that] requires new thinking in the law of war".

For every "news" naysayer out there who calls us, progressive bloggers, some sort of unwashed horde out to get our hands on the power reins or who accuses us of being angry, just read this article. The sort of corruption that permeates every level of our political system: from the local city council, to state government, to federal — why wouldn’t we be disgusted with how things are going in America?
Progressives who blog or hang out on blogs as readers or commenters do so because they have had enough of what passes as "politics as usual." The American public deserves a whole lot better than what we are getting now: politicians that take bribes, spend their time chasing down big money donors to squeeze out a little more juice for their election coffers, passing out the public dime to crony corporations through no bid contracts, little to no oversight of whatever actions those in power care to take.
I, for one, have seen enough corruption and self-dealing to last a lifetime just in the last five years. It is time for someone to stand up and provide a little check and balance. Public corruption prosecutions are a good way of letting in a little much-needed sunshine into an dank, dark, infested rat hole. And in America today, we have far too many rats.
President Bush, re-appoint Pat Fitzgerald in Illinois. Do the right thing…for once.

Wells better hope that judge who is residing the California security fraud case in which Wells is representing is not taking vacation this time. Otherwise, Wells case in California may not start as schedule and maybe delayed. Therefore, Wells would have to go one as schedule with Libby's case. We won't hear about Walton's decision to most likely in either August or early September. To be really honest about the little soldier's case, it is dead in the water espcially reading the entire May 16 transcript of Libby's case with the reporter. Wells wasn't there. It was Libby's other lawyer Jeffress and the attorneys for the subpoena reporters. It was such a waste of time and free money for the smurf's attorneys. The smurf just don't get it! But don't worry. The Gerbil House of cards are tumbling fast and Addington will be walking the plank along with Josh Bolten!

Okay, let me get this straight. Because Bush and Putin are such close friends, Bush is going to tell Putin "in private" that he's worried about the Russian leader's anti-democratic policies. But, the White House National Security Adviser Steven Hadley publicly announced that Bush would have this private conversation. That doesn't seem like very smart diplomacy...but nothing Bush does is smart diplomacy. According to NBC this morning, Putin's approval rating is 70%, that's twice as high as Bush's approval.
I'm sure our President will make us proud at the G-8.

I heard on the Ed Schultz show that Robert Novak had announced that he was finally going to tell who told him about Valerie Plame. He is going to announce it on Fox News.
And if Novak goes on Faux news to announce who told him about Plame, then he need to explain his own role with Porkrind in a possible cover-up!

The "primary source" for his July 10, 2003 article "Mission To Niger" won't "come forward to identify himself," but Novak does reveal that in his testimony he spoke of President George W. Bush's Deputy Chief of Staff Karl Rove.
"I answered questions using the names of Rove, Harlow and my primary source," says Novak.
According to the Drudge Report, Novak will be making two appearances on the FOX News Channel tomorrow evening to talk about his role in the probe, on "Special Report with Brit Hume" and "Hannity & Colmes."
Hmmm.. It makes me wonder why all of the sudden who wants reveal the "truth" to Faux news? And why now? Yes, according to his story, Fitz concluded his investigation on Novak! This may sound peachy that Novak is off the hook according to him. But, I wonder what Fitzgerald have under his sleeve.. Hmmm...

President Bush faces a major test of his integrity when, or if, he ever gets around to reappointing Patrick Fitzgerald as U.S. Attorney in Chicago.
The nation needs to know that Bush's failure to back Fitzgerald will betray a gapping hole in the conscience of the president. While most of America may think of Fitzgerald as the aggressive prosecutor in the Valerie Plame affair and the bombing of the World Trade Center, those of us in Chicago have a closer view of the man.
He is one of the few government officials left in Chicago and Illinois that loathes corruption, and who is in a position to do something about as the U.S. Attorney for Northern Illinois.
In that role, he has put away former Illinois Gov. George Ryan and a host of other grafters. He is scrutinizing current Gov. Rod Blagojevich's administration for its hiring practices. And he is hot on the trail of the corruption that pervades Chicago Mayor Richard M. Daley's City Hall. Score another for Fitzgerald as a federal jury this week convicted Daley's patronage chief and three other men on charges that they engaged in an elaborate and long-running scheme to reward the mayor's campaign workers with choice jobs.
New York Times columnist David Brooks, among others, labors under the impression that this part of the city's Democratic "machine" was dead, but the scheme, which violated a federal court order, long has provided Daley and his allies with an army of faithful doorbell ringers on election day. Patronage is very much alive and is every bit an essential part of the Chicago machine as the more lucrative awarding of rich consulting, construction and franchise contracts to favored relatives and friends. In Chicago, many folks consider this "soft graft," which makes the "city that works" work.
And so, Daley, is named the nation's best mayor and dines with President George W. Bush the evening of his special 60th birthday. Bush and some urban observers dote on Daley as if he was the genius who almost single-handedly turned a stinking swamp into a city beautiful. Cities elsewhere would be making a huge mistake to think so, as incompetent no-shows, for example, fill jobs critically important to public safety. And citizens and taxpayers are cheated.
Which brings us back to Fitzgerald. Without him, who will be left to chase the snakes out of Chicago and into the federal pen? Certainly no one who is a part of the interlocking Republocratic party that runs most of what passes for government in Chicago and Illinois.
So at Bush's Friday press conference in Chicago, while other reporters were asking him weighty questions about global and national matters, he was surprised by a local reporter's question: Does he plan to reappoint Fitzgerald? According to the Chicago Tribune's Michael Tackett, Bush said he hadn't really thought about that, then "recovered by saying that the decision would fall to Atty. Gen. Alberto Gonzales." Then Bush made a startling admission: even though Fitzgerald's Chicago investigations have received national coverage, Bush, who said he wanted to get to Chicago to experience more of the "real" America, "allowed that he hadn't paid much attention to Fitzgerald's investigations...."
That should ferment some happy bubbles in the political cesspool that is Chicago. The president's inattention will be welcomed by the Chicago political establishment, which despises Fitzgerald and opposed him from the start, when he was nominated by former Illinois Sen. Peter (no relation) Fitzgerald, widely considered to be renegade (i.e., he refused to take orders from the goniffs). In a word, establishment Republicans and Democrats want him gone.
And there's good reason to think he might be, aside from the president's non-assurance. One of the chief practitioners of Illinois establishment politics is Republican operative Bob Kjellander, who brags (whether true or not) about his friendship with Bush chief political strategist, Karl Rove. Despite Kjellander's engineering Bush defeats in Illinois and other Midwest states, the White House (Rove?) thought he was pretty hot stuff and brought him to the Beltway where he is engineering who knows what political disaster.
Kjellander also will be credited with the coming GOP election disaster in Illinois, thanks to his help in selecting state Treasurer Judy Barr Topinka to run against incumbent Blagojevich. She's a dear lady, a treasured "moderate," but not a gusty independent willing to stand up to the political establishment.
The point is that Kjellander (pronounced Shelander), a Republican national committeeman who has received $800,000 in unexplained fees through a state bond-borrowing deal engineered by Democrat Blagojevich, is no fan of Fitzgerald's either. No one, in other words, in the political establishment in Chicago or Washington, is pushing for Fitzgerald's reappointment.
This is more than a parochial political battle. It bears watching by a nation that has become disgusted by corruption on the federal level. Chicago and Illinois have reached a critical stage. On one side are the co-joined interests of both political parties, and on the other is the much smaller group who value honesty and good government. Their only standard-bearer is Patrick Fitzgerald.
Bush's failure to reappoint Fitzgerald would tell the nation that he doesn't mind the kind of corruption that infects Chicago and Illinois. It will be the kind of surrender to the most destructive kind of politics that have disgusted so many Americans.

I would not place too much significance on the date of the 11th in regards to India because there are so many acts of violence on so many days each month. The 11th is quickly becoming an unlucky day. . .
. . .Some other place the Gerbil probably cannot find is the Chicago subway. Yeah, Chicago has a subway. There was a train derailment this evening with lots of people having some major smoke inhalation problems. It looks accidental and yes, when the wheels get out of position on the rails there will be lots of sparks, enough to catch the wiring on fire. No major injuries so far, but lots of chaos.

The new figures show the deficit for the budget year ending September 30 will be $296 billion -- much better than the $423 billion that Bush predicted in February and a slight improvement over 2005.
Bush said the improvement is due to tax cuts he pushed in 2001 and 2003 and his clampdown on domestic agencies funded by Congress.
"These tax cuts left nearly $1.1 trillion in the hands of American workers and families and small business owners. And they used this money to help fuel an economic resurgence that's now in its 18th quarter," Bush said. "Economic growth fueled by tax relief has sent our tax revenues soaring."

WASHINGTON (AP) - Columnist Robert Novak said for the first time Tuesday that he cooperated with the investigation into who leaked the identity of CIA officer Valerie Plame.
Novak's decision to talk publicly came after he was notified a month ago by Special Counsel Patrick Fitzgerald that prosecutors would not seek criminal charges against one of Novak's sources, White House political aide Karl Rove.
Fitzgerald "has informed my attorneys that, after two and one-half years, his investigation of the CIA leak case concerning matters directly relating to me has been concluded," Novak said in a statement. He promised details of his cooperation in a column Wednesday in the Chicago Sun-Times.
Novak's secret cooperation with prosecutors while maintaining a public silence about his role kept him out of legal danger and had the effect of providing protection for the Bush White House during the presidential campaign.
The White House denied Rove played any role in the leak of Plame's CIA identity and Novak, with his decision to talk to prosecutors, steered clear of potentially being held in contempt of court and jailed.
In his two-paragraph statement posted on the Sun-Times Web site on Tuesday night, the conservative columnist said he had remained silent at the request of Fitzgerald.
According to The Washington Post, Novak's column will say that he told Fitzgerald in early 2004 that Rove and then-CIA spokesman Bill Harlow had confirmed information about Plame.
Novak said he also told Fitzgerald about another senior administration official who originally provided him with the information about Plame, the Post reported. Novak said he cannot reveal the identity of that source even now.
Rove escaped indictment but Vice President Dick Cheney's former chief of staff, I. Lewis Libby, has been charged with perjury, obstruction and lying to the FBI about how he learned of the covert CIA officer's identity and what he told reporters about it.
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The Bush administration is preparing a crackdown on intelligence leaks to the media and will try to pursue prosecutions in some recent cases, the chairman of the House of Representatives Intelligence Committee on Tuesday.

"More frequently than what we would like, we find out that the intelligence community has been penetrated, not necessarily by al Qaeda, but by other nations or organizations," he said.

At present FitzGerald is the Chancellor of the National University of Ireland. He is widely considered to have been the most successful leader of the modern Fine Gael party.
We don't get much about Ireland except the bad stuff. My daughter saw a movie about a lady who was killed because she told the police about a drug dealing giving drugs to kids. I looked at Fitz's relatives web site and Ireland is so beautiful and peaceful looking. I had a friend from Ireland and we joked she would take me there to kiss the blarney stone. She passed away but I know she is home now and smiling.

Vermont judge rejects U.S. Supreme Court search ruling
GUILDHALL, Vt. --A Vermont District Court judge has rejected a recent U.S. Supreme Court ruling on the power of police to search a private home, concluding that the state offers greater protections in such cases.
Judge Robert Bent said that under the state Constitution police must knock and announce themselves before conducting a search, even if they have a warrant, or face the prospect that any evidence they find could be thrown out.
The Supreme Court said June 15 that evidence obtained without first knocking could be used at trial, but Bent said that would not apply in Vermont.
"Evidence obtained in violation of the Vermont Constitution, or as the result of a violation, cannot be admitted at trial as a matter of state law," Bent wrote, citing an earlier state case as precedent. "Introduction of such evidence at trial eviscerates our most sacred rights, impinges on individual privacy, perverts our judicial process, distorts any notion of fairness and encourages official misconduct."
