No Laughing Matter - Heartburn, Anyone..?

Colbert Lampoons Bush at White House Lapdogs Dinner-- President Does Not Seem Amused--Skips Dessert

"WASHINGTON - A blistering comedy “tribute” to President Bush by Comedy Central’s faux talk show host Stephen Colbert at the White House Correspondent Dinner Saturday night left George and Laura Bush unsmiling at its close."

Also lampooning the press, Colbert complained that he was “surrounded by the liberal media who are destroying this country, except for Fox News. Fox believes in presenting both sides of the story — the president’s side and the vice president’s side.

"He also reflected on the alleged good old days, when the media was still swallowing the WMD story. Addressing the reporters, he said, 'Let's review the rules. Here's how it works. The president makes decisions, he’s the decider. The press secretary announces those decisions, and you people of the press type those decisions down. Make, announce, type. Put them through a spell check and go home. Get to know your family again. Make love to your wife. Write that novel you got kicking around in your head. You know, the one about the intrepid Washington reporter with the courage to stand up to the administration. You know--fiction.' "

"He noted former Ambassador Joseph Wilson in the crowd, as well as " Valerie Plame." Then, pretending to be worried that he had named her, he corrected himself, as Bush aides might do, "Uh, I mean... Joseph Wilson's wife." He asserted that it might be okay, as prosecutor Patrick Fitzgerald was probably not there. " [watch it]

Mr. Colbert, you were right. I was not there, but I salute your chutzbah for telling it like it is. Unfortunately, the reality of it all is not very funny.

They call it biting humor because reality bites.

The real comedy was the looks on the President and Mrs Bushs' faces.
Stephen Colbert is going to be on 60 minutes tonight and I hope they show this bit again.

Is this the last party for Karl Rove before the indictment?
Did they show Karl at all, was he laughing?
Because on Raw Story, according to Newsweek he was all jolly and laughing.
Don't know if this is a front for panic or has he gone insane?

Fitz, you and your team are the bonfire! America thanks you!

Flame of Change for America
Sunday April 30th

There will be a virtual candlelight vigil this Sunday to help usher in changes for America to once again become the country that is By the People, For the People.

Americans across the country will be taking a moment on Sunday, April 30th to light an imaginary candle that lights the way for America to once again become the country that is “By the People, For the People.” They will be lighting the flame of change to help the people of our country who direly need it, to stop unjust wars and to implement an honest government.

Let us all light our imaginary flame on Sunday and stand up for the America burning within our hearts. Let us burn the flame of desire that our country be restored to Truth, Liberty and Justice for All.

I wonder how the thousands of parents of the troops that died think of the humor and jokes. All I hear from this Administration is we're at war and now I guess thats on the back burner. Gas prices are going up while Bush makes jokes in reality he's laughing at us because again he's made fools of us all. Oh Fitz notice how Gonzo did his investigation of price fixing all over the US in just 24 hours and found nothing. He's good. I guess he used magic to get the fast results. What out Harry Potter theres a new wizard in town.

Did you see Colbert hit that ass, Kristol and PNAC? Crooks and Liars should have the video.

More of the media need to put these creeps on the spot. No, the stupid MSM should take this as an opening and yet they squander another chance to stop digging.

Did they show Karl at all, was he laughing?-----I thought i saw him sitting with Phil Simms and that group during Colberts routine.

AS he got further into his skit i noticed that they showed him only whereas at the start they would scan to Bush to see his reaction.

It certainly seemed to turn cold at the end and yes, piece by piece it was funny--but all together it was a sober realization of where the country is and there is not much to laugh about.

Most of the older people reading or posting to this blog see a much different country now as opposed to when they were younger.

Most older people can see thru what these people are doing. But it is people such as yourself who have been given the responsibility of doing something about it.

""Did you see Colbert hit that ass, Kristol and PNAC? Crooks and Liars should have the video.""

Yes he baited him really well. At the end he had him saying that there were quite a FEW DICTATORS the US should take down.

The closest that man has ever gotten to holding a weapon is when
he urinates.

He is the exactly the type of person the Gen described as flippantly going off to war.....

I give Colbert a lot of credit.

""'He noted former Ambassador Joseph Wilson in the crowd, just three tables away from Karl Rove, and that he had brought " Valerie Plame"""

So he was there.

Yes, it was a good thing that you weren't there. Every comedian is trying to make a quick buck on jokes about the current events such as the leak case. I believe in humor and laugh. A good laugh is one of the bst medicine. But, there to line to be crossed between entertainment versus education. This case is a serious matter because of a incompetent Gerbil that put our soldier's in harms way for personal and hidden agenda. Most Americasn want to be more entertained and less educated. I think that there should be a balance between the two. There certainly should be an important message behind certain humor or poltical satire. Jonathan Swift's book, "Gulliver's Travels" or George Orwell's book, "Animal Farm" are examples of a political satire with a important message.
