Lewis Libby Jr., the former chief of staff to Vice President Dick Cheney, told a grand jury that he was authorized by his "superiors" to disclose classified information to reporters about Iraq's weapons capability in June and July 2003, according to a document filed by a federal prosecutor.

I'll repeat my question. Libby was charged with giving misleding information he is not charged with leaking the CIA name. Why is he now saying Cheney gave premission? What direction is the defendence going because its not the direction of the charge. Will you or your staff or Biloxi explain this new turn of action.

Cheney, Rove, et al have yet to be charged.

If the Pres and VP can instantly declassify material, as one of the articles says, then it may be that this in itself is not a crime. But does this right of "instant declassification" even allow outing a covert agent? I don't think so.
It is clear that there was a conspiracy to discredit Wilson, but I don't think that in itself is a crime, either.
However, by keeping the grand jury open, Fitz can recharge L. with any additional crime for which there is probable evidence.

Yes, you are right. Libby is charged for lying not for leaking the CIA name. Those are two separate charges. I think that a lot of people are confused on what is exactly Libby is charged by Fitz. Now, Libby is only saying Cheney gave him permission because:
1. Libby doesn't want his Boss to be implicated in the case (In other words, CYA). We know that Cheney is involved because now Libby claims that he has the papers as proof.
2. By saying that Cheney gave "permission," it is a loop hole by Libby to pass the buck.
Libby's strategy is to confuse the media and the public and sway people to not think out what Libby is originally charged. Fitz said clearly on Oct. 28, 2005 press conference that Libby is charged with lying.
Now, what you mention about Cheney. If Cheney is discovered that he either leak the CIA's name or he found out the CIA's name by digging and told Libby to exploit Ms. Wilson's name to the reporters, then, as you said, Jackie, Cheney can be charged.
Right now, Libby is misleading information to the media and the people and sidetrack the orginal charges against him. I am sure that Libby, sooner or later, will spill his guts because he cannot keep protecting Cheney and the Administration altogther too long. Fitz will take one step at a time. Even though the press has Libby portrayed as a person is high position in the White, Libby is not the # 2 guy. I believe Cheney is the #2 guy and Rove is #1. As I watched Hardball last year where a team of lawyers on the show were discussing Fitz's strategy in this case, the lawyers said that Fitz is known for getting the #2 guy first. And as the # 2 guy decides to cut a deal then Fitz get #1. Go back and read Fitz's posting from truthout.org regarding the meeting with Cheney, Rove, and Hadley. Libby is trying not to implicate Cheney because Cheney has a lot of lose. It would expose Cheney not only in this case but the money trail connection to Halliburton to the war in Iraq. This is just my analogy from keeping up with the case. Hope this helps!

Does Libby's admission (the devil, I mean Cheney, made me do it) have something to do with a greymail strategy? Libby's lawyer's can request super secret documents from the Veep, which will never be provided due to national security, and because they can't get them, Libby's lawyers cannot provide an adequate defense, and the judge therefore dimisses the case?
It sounds like they are setting a trap for Fitzy to go after the leak/conspiracy charge. But Fitzy is too smart for them to fall for it.

It looks like Libby is trying to use the "greymail" stategy. In addition to your comments that Libby could walk from using this strategy or Libby can accept a plea for a lesser charge. But, Libby will lose his position at the White House but he can possibly do no jail time. That what the strategy means. I think Fitz knows actually what Libby is doing. Remember Fitz was math major. Surely, he has the intellegence and cleverness to figure out what Libby's strategy is and connect the dots. Libby knows that Fitz is on to him and the rest the players in this case. This is just a cat and mouse game with Libby thinking he can outsmart Fitz. We will see when the truth unravels. BTW, good analogy!
Saint Brigid and SPB I've been thinking again. By Libby's lawyers letting him say Cheney gave the order they are trying to draw out Fitz's information on the Leak Case. Now I think Cheney intends to use that fact that he and Bush can release security information. Thereby getting Libby off and not being able to charge Cheney. Look at what Bush is leaking about spying and 9/11 information. He has the power to release any national security info. Just a thought.

The plan for war by PNAC went back into the 90's and had nothing to do as for who was in power in Iraq. Bush did as he was told...The Cabinet mentioned below were then the leading members of PNAC....all it's about oil and regional control.

I know--we're trying to guess what the next steps are in this danse macabre with only a scintilla of information compared to what PJF knows.
Libby's lawyers are trying to defend him any way they can. Libby also knows that politically, he and Cheney have to serve as the firewall for the Prez. Libby knows if the taint gets through to the Shrubbery, he's going to need more than crutches to get around.
