Wolfowitz Emerges as Key Figure in Intel Manipulation

Paul Wolfowitz, former under secretary of defense, has been identified in recently released grand jury transcripts as being involved in a White House smear campaign against Joseph Wilson, the former US ambassador who accused the Bush administration of manipulating intelligence in the run-up to the Iraq War.

The previously undisclosed development comes on the heels of a scathing report released last week by the Defense Department's Office of the Inspector General that said Wolfowitz played a key role in the cooking of intelligence related to Iraq's ties to al-Qaeda and its supposed cache of chemical and biological weapons. That effort helped the White House lay the groundwork for a US-led invasion.

Taken as a whole, the involvement of Wolfowitz in a full-scale effort to undermine the credibility of an Iraq War critic, and his hands-on role in knowingly providing the White House with the sort of dubious intelligence that came under scrutiny by people like Wilson, shows how widespread the issues surrounding manipulated intelligence truly were, and how crucial it became for senior members of the Bush administration to discredit anyone who threatened to expose their ruse. <

And where you follow spitman Wolfie will lead you to the connections of Doug Feith, Scooter Libby, President Bush, and the whole conspiracy behind the Iraq/Al-Queda/Hussein bogus connection and Iraq war.

Democracynow.org did a wonderful piece about Wolfie/Feith/Libby saga. Also, Voltaire.net goes to more in depth with Feith/Wolfie/Libby of their Iraw propaganda.

Oh here is another piece of news:

U.S. News: “A federal judge has ruled that a CIA agent identified only as ‘Doe,’ allegedly fired after he gathered prewar intelligence showing that Iraq was not developing weapons of mass destruction, can proceed with his lawsuit against the CIA.”

And I wonder if this is the same Doe that I read about and his filings last year who knew Valerie Wilson. The Doe that I read last year sued Porter Goss and another person from CIA. Goss tried to get the lawsuit squashed.

Found the article in my archives. This is from Marcy Wheeler's website some time ago:

This is the chronology described in Doe's complaints:

1995 Doe informed his status changed from contract to staff; he subsequently received normal staff paychecks and promotions
1995 Doe assigned to DO/CPD
2000 Intelligence that contradicted previous intelligence judgment first suppressed
2001 Intelligence gathered from respected asset suppressed
2001 Actionable intelligence suppressed
2002 Doe informed a recent promotion and medal would be withheld until he stopped handling the respected asset
2002 Doe instructed to falsify report gathered from particular asset (apparently different from "respected" asset)
2002 or 2003 Almost entirely redacted allegation about an asset
2003 Counter-Intelligence investigation for having sex with female asset begins; CPD chief also tells Doe Pavitt thinks Doe is blackmailing him, presumably over the fact Pavitt buried the intelligence
September 2003 Doe placed on administration leave; told Pavitt would withhold the promotion and medal
May 2004 Doe informed he was under CIA OIG investigation for embezzlement
June 2004 Pavitt retires
July 2004 Doe meets with OIG inspectors
September 2004 Doe terminated (after officially being informed in August)--and informed he was a contractor and therefore not eligible for normal termination procedures/appeals
December 6, 2004 Doe files wrongful termination suit
December 8, 2004 Doe meets with OIG investigators in presence of lawyer
March 2005 Two pseudonymous CIA managers, one the former CPD head, demand that Doe not appear in court in person
April 2005 Doe informed OIG investigations terminated with no finding a wrongdoing

Here is the motion to dismiss.

Here is Doe's complaint.

From the prosecution side, Bonamici, makes a valid point concerning Libby:

Bonamici: The truth is we did assume that Libby was going to testify, and we did so because Mr Cline asked us to assume that. Everything we did was based on the assumption and it would be fundamentally unfair to hold us to an agreement we made based on those assumptions.

The prosecution team spent nearly 2 1/2 months trying to come to a compromise with the defense regarding classified information and the nine issues that Libby was dealing with in National Security in which he was overwhelmed with. In the defnese filing, they did say that Libby wanted to take the stand. And now, the defense does a 180 on the prosecution and Walton and now want more classified information and Libby may not take the stand. The defnese knows that their strategy isn't working. Can't wait to hear the outcome of this.

"That sidebar before lunch was almost 30 minutes long and all I could tell is that it seemed very important and contentious; and it gave me a headache."

I recommend three things to help one remain unaffected by these kinds of situations:

1) Drink lots of water.

(Coffee does not serve this purpose.)

2) Take frequent deep, cleansing breaths.

3) Move around a little bit.

(Even if it's just your head or your shoulders; that helps work the disharmonious energy on out.)

SPB.. don't get how the defense is now trying to get Miller testimony squashed.. saying that Libby said bureau not CPD, yet she understood it to be CPD {me thinks she got that one from Dr Evil any way and already knew hence Dr Evil not testifying and Judy's testimony limited to only the Scooter exchange}...

enlighten me please... this harranguing by Jeffress of state of mind in versus out.. why is Walton changing his mind now..?

One movement in particular that you might try is to wipe your brow rather slowly with the tips of your fingers then, as you draw your hand away from your face, sharply *Fling* the disharmonious energy off of your hand.

Have the most pleasant, tranquil, regal expression on your face as you do this. The kind of expression you might have if you were drifting in a placid lake in the company of swans.

From Jason Leopold's article on this thread:

According to Libby's March 2004 grand jury transcripts, he said that Vice President Cheney discussed with him getting Wolfowitz to contact the Journal to leak the NIE as a way of undermining Wilson.

"After July 14, in that week, the Vice President thought we should still try and get the [NIE] out. And so he asked me to talk to the Wall Street Journal. I don't have as good a relationship with the Wall Street Journal as Secretary Wolfowitz did, and so we talked to Secretary Wolfowitz about trying to get that point across [to the Journal], and he undertook to do so," Libby testified.

An embarrassed US Justice Department is reviewing its security procedures after admitting that more than 700 weapons and over 400 laptop computers had gone missing in the past three years.

Most of the laptops belonged to the FBI - many containing classified information.

Two of the guns were subsequently used in armed robberies, a third apparently became a murder weapon after being stolen from the home of an FBI agent in New Orleans.

Officials say the problem is the result of faulty paperwork. more..

Miller testified with certainty that Libby was the first to tell her that Joseph Wilson's wife worked for the CIA and that it happened on June 23 and again on July 8. And Fitzgerald clarified the date of July 8 with Miller again. Fitzgerald showed evidence that Libby was in a state of mind when he told Miller twice about Valerie Wilson. Also, from the GJ audio testimony, Fitz asked Libby did he ever meet with Miller before. He said only on July 8th. According to government exhibit of Libby's daily schedule, he met with Miller on June 23 at 3:00 pm in his office. Another lie from Libby. That is why the defense has to squash scatterbrain Miller.

Oh another boo boo for Libby from Glenn Kessler's testimony:

Glenn Kessler of The Washington Post.

He was asked about talking to Libby in July 2003. Kessler said he had taken the call from Libby while in the elephant house at the zoo, where he had taken his children. This, he said, helped make the chat memorable. Yes, he was able to focus on that call, but he did have to tell his 10- year-old son to watch the others and keep them from harm....

Libby's state of mind was fine at zoo with his son while talking to Kessler.

Who is Rick Hohlt? Wells asked Novak that question on the stand. Novak said that was a lobbyist and a friend. Here is some info on Hohlt from an article:

The Bush Administration’s Drug Importation Task Force
Delivers Another Favor for the Prescription Drug Industry

The findings of the federal Drug Importation Task Force, which essentially continues a
legislative stalemate that prohibits importing prescription drugs from Canada, must be framed by
the fact that over half of its members (7 of 13) are Bush political appointees and there is not one
single outside expert on the panel. These political appointees owe their jobs to a President who
owes his job, at least in part, to extensive political contributions and support from the
pharmaceutical industry.
An investigation by Public Citizen reveals that the task force review on drug importation
occurred against a backdrop of lobbying of the Bush administration by some of its former senior
staff on behalf of the drug companies. A review of lobbyist registration forms has revealed that
seven former senior members of the administration are listed as on the specific issue of drug
importation, six of whom lobbied their former agency. But these seven are not the only people
who have passed through the revolving door between the Bush administration and the
pharmaceutical industry.

And here is Hohlt's information:

The top American military officer, General Peter Pace, declined Monday to endorse the conclusions of U.S. military officers in Baghdad, who told reporters on Sunday that the Iranian government is providing high-powered roadside bombs to insurgents in Iraq. General Pace made his comments during a visit to Australia, and VOA's Al Pessin reports from Canberra.

General Pace said he was not aware of the Baghdad briefing, and that he could not, from his own knowledge, repeat the assertion made there that the elite Quds brigade of Iran's Republican Guard force is providing bomb-making kits to Iraqi Shiite insurgents. more.

That is surprising.

RE: The blockbuster story no one is reporting from the Libby trial
By Swopa
Feb 12 2007 - 6:51am

Teak, to sum it up in a nutshell...

Libby was covering for the real leaker/leakers. His intentional lies and stories were to cover for the person/persons responsible for leaking Valerie Plame's identity.

Cheney authorized the leaks for one simple reason...

To cover for the person that told our nation and the world, in 16 words in his SOTU address on Jan. 2003, that this country had reason to go to war with Iraq.

Now, SWOPA, is asking the MSM to do their job and expose the whole story for what it really is!

8:14 PM
Blogger Suzie-Q (S-Q) said...

Btw... those 16 words were a fabricated lie aka falsified intelliegence, and Bush knew it when he said it!

Blogger Suzie-Q (S-Q) said...

That is the story that the MSM needs to report!!

Thanks s-q. I finally finished that trilogy.

Hi Stephen:

Yes, SWOPA is ahead of the game.. :D

I believe Valerie Plame Wilson knew it was false intelligence, after all that was her job, WMD intel in the Middle East.

She sent her husband to confirm what she already knew. You see, when you are Covert CIA, you don't trust just anyone but you trust your spouse... you have to.

Since she was CIA she couldn't write the story and expose the truth. However, her husband could and he did.

(There is a new thread)

For God's sake, Valerie Wilson did not send her husband to Niger! She recommended him, based upon his past diplomat service and knowledge of that part of the world. She had no decision-making role in sending him.

Blogger Suzie-Q (S-Q) said...

Anon @ 9:59:

Thanks Anon for clarifying that! I was sloppy in my post last night and you're correct. Valerie never made that decision.

High-ranking CIA officials told the United States Senate Select Committee on Intelligence that they disputed the claim that Plame was involved in the final decision to send Wilson, and indicated that the operations official who made it was not present at the meeting where Wilson was chosen. Newsday reported:

“ A senior intelligence officer confirmed that Plame was a Directorate of Operations undercover officer who worked "alongside" the operations officers who asked her husband to travel to Niger. But he said she did not recommend her husband to undertake the Niger assignment. "They (the officers who did ask Wilson to check the uranium story) were aware of who she was married to, which is not surprising," he said. "There are people elsewhere in government who are trying to make her look like she was the one who was cooking this up, for some reason," he said. "I can’t figure out what it could be." "We paid his (Wilson’s) airfare. But to go to Niger is not exactly a benefit. Most people you’d have to pay big bucks to go there," the senior intelligence official said. Wilson said he was reimbursed only for expenses. (July 22 2003)

Wilson writes:

“ Apart from being the conduit of a message from a colleague in her office asking if I would be willing to have a conversation about Niger's uranium industry, Valerie had had nothing to do with the matter.

The correct facts and information is exactly what this case is about. By changing the story, distorting the facts, leads to others being misinformed. This blog has always given factual information with documents of proof. Let's keep the standard of correctness and integrity of the Desk of Patrick J.
