The Dog Days Of Summer...

TGIF -- or is everyone still still grumpy from when the seas boiled, wine turned sour, dogs grew mad, and all creatures became languid, causing to man burning fevers, hysterics, and phrensies in 2001?

"The alternative, and it's taken me time to think through, I think we should be acquiring and accumulating all the data that is appropriate for possibly bringing criminal charges against members of this administration at a later date."

See Joe Biden has the right idea.

Stay focussed on the real issues and worry about Impeaching or whatever at a later date. Sure, get all the intel now, get it right.

Priorities: Vote 1 for Joe Biden there.

An army recruiter was at a conveninece store giving a pitch to a young cashier.

He didn't stay long.

A woman working in the store said: her son had just returned from Iraq. He enlisted because he was promised assistance in obtainig documentation to legally reside in the US, and financial aid for college.

The Army now says there was no such agreement because they never put it in writing. No senator contacted has returned her calls.

Perhaps they should take away the citizenship from the soldier that was the first to die pre-MISSION ACCOMPLISHED. Every soldier that fights for this country deserves to be made a citizen, how did they get paid, did they get paid as much as the other troops? The White House, Pentagon and some recruiters blew it with their lies.
But the recruiters deserve respect when they call your kid. Most are only doing their stressful job. George W. Bush and Co. have done great harm to "his" nation.

Money As Debt
Paul Grignon's 47-minute animated presentation of "Money as Debt" tells in very simple and effective graphic terms what money is and how it ... all ยป is being created. It is an entertaining way to get the message out. The Cowichan Citizens Coalition and its "Duncan Initiative" received high praise from those who previewed it. I recommend it as a painless but hard-hitting educational tool and encourage the widest distribution and use by all groups concerned with the present unsustainable monetary system in Canada and the United States.

Mara, I believe the correct quote is:

"If rape is inevitable, stop fighting and lie back and enjoy it."

I once spoke with S. African poet laureate, Dennis Brutus who referred to the "rape of Africa."

What does it mean to "rape" Africa?

I'm paraphrasing from memory,

Rape is "to take" without regard, without consent, without feeling, as though the other was an object owned by the taker. When you are raped, you are stopped from becoming who you can become.

Is that what America and the Americans have become?

We are merely "things" to be used and then discarded?

Mara, I see a great future for you, in prostitution or pole-dancing.

Hey no girl fights on the blog. Pole dancing, prostitution? CA perhaps she meant for the soldiers to stop fighting the inevitable- meaning its over and they should come home. Regardless of what Bush tells them.
Mara didn't come back and explain herself.
That said, I am a feminist and agree with the foundation of what you said.
Did you know in the military code, rape is an offense punishable by death? I'm not sure if that's unduly harsh or not...what do you think?

Military Code should be harsher than civil law.

I am against the death penalty for civil law. I believe in "life and a day, with out parole" for the most heinous of crimes, that can be proven. Some people are not able to live peacefully among us and need to be caged, forever.

My experience with military criminals came though my clinicals at VA hospitals. In my psych rotation, I remember one particularly heinous old soldier/PTSD patient.

I did his psych intake and initial in-patient clinical assessment. As I was taught, I had to protect myself from him, while making him comfortable to admit himself voluntarily into the hospital, for diagnosis and treatment.

The intake room had two chairs and one desk.

The room was staged with the two chairs facing each other, and the desk in between the chairs.

The props, the desk and chairs, were oriented in a way, so that my back was to the door (so that I could escape), I sat in front of the desk, and the soldier sat facing me.

Unbeknownst to the soldier, there was at least one guard outside the door, to protect me, if necessary.

He came into the room with a duffle bag. Sat down and began to talk.

Briefly, In Viet Nam he had raped and killed and raped the dead...and more.

He had severed the heads of his victims, and until the heads smelled bad, he sodomized the decapitated throphies he carried with him.

I did his history and physical, as he reported on himself. It was free-flowing, stream-of-consciousness, no time-limits.

He was from Mississippi, from a poor family. Had been turned into a "killing machine" by the military. Since returning from Viet Nam he had been arrested numerous times for violence against his family, numerous psychiatric admissions, numerous psych meds.

Finally, he was exhausted.

He said to me, "I came here to kill someone."

I asked the usual questions, to assess risk. WHO and HOW and DO YOU HAVE WHAT YOU NEED TO KILL?

I could have run out the door when he reached for his duffle bag. I don't know why I didn't flee.

He reached in and put onto the desk a huge kitchen knife.

I asked him what he wanted to do.

He said he wanted help.

I walked to the door and we walked out, past the guard, and I told the guard to get the knife.

On the unit, I helped orient himself to his room and sat with him while he put his things away, showered and dressed in a hospital gown and pants.

As he lay on his bed, he looked at me and said: "I wanted to kill you when I saw you. You were everything I could never have."

I asked him why he didn't kill me.

"Because inside you are like my grandmother and her lady-friends from church."

The following day he was no longer on my psych unit. Early in the morning, he had suffered a flash-back and had attacked the Filipina nurse, calling her a "gook" and had attempted to strangle her.

I went to see him on the forensic psych unit, he was now in solitary confinement and restrained. He was unrecognizable. He looked like a black-Moses, biblical, epic, like the lawgiver in Michaelangelo's painting on the Sistine Chapel. His graying hairs were standing up, his brows had furled so he appeard to have grown tiny horns. He raged and ranted, any more sedation, and we would have killed him.

Yes, in military law, there should be harsh consequences for rape. Soldiers should be disciplined warriors, who use their might and training for good, not their own selfish and evil needs.

I don't know what Mara meant.

I don't know if we should stay or we should go.

I don't know if Bush is a "president for the ages" or if he is an insane, expansionist, narcissist, bully.

I only know that I am being manipulated. And I am very uncomfortable with that manipulation.

I don't have enough facts and I don't trust our current Congress, or candidates.

As of now, I will vote for:

None of the Above.

Mara, your insight is correct. "only if you let it" and may I add my quote, when I see homeless-vacant-eyed dirty and self-soiled women crumpled on the streets of Chicago, "the me that would be, if I allowed it to be."

Psychiatry is about diagnosis and treatment. Analysis and pharmacueticals.

Healing is a touch, a mother's touch; that soothes, calms, and restores confidence that one is loved.

Psychiatry is at cross-purposes with healing.

Can we talk?
