Ahmadinejads' letter is simply a statement about the purpose of life.

It is NOT a statement about the meaning of life.

The purpose of life is to learn.
The meaning of life is unknown.

Make a distinction between meaning and purpose. Otherwise, the purpose of the letter is lost. (Let's be crass... don't waste your time pondering about the meaning of the letter, it's purpose is crytal clear - to start dialogue, after 27 years)

It's a first order learning experience (for him, or if you will, those who have not spoken for 27 years)

There is no better way to illustrate learning (the purpose of life) than to ask questions.

In the beginning, are questions.
It's the way you learn. It's the way you start. (There are many ways of learning, questions are one of the most illustrative methods)

You don't start life out(in this case, dialogue)with answers, that's not the way it works.

The world asked "..will you stop enrichment....?"
The answer was "...no...."

His letter asked the world (USA)questions, (relevant or not, it's purpose was to open up dialogue after 27 years, not to give answers)

Ahmadinejad will get his answers.
And told what is felt as relevant.

And if we want to learn too, we will ask questions, lots of them.

Ahmadinejad is a teacher. And it is possible to ask questions to which their only conclusion is, their only answer is,... the right answer.

I agree with you. It is important for eveyone including myself to read that letter from the President of Iran. He was very compassionate in his letter to the Gerbil. Yes, I saw the references to Jesus. That tell me that he is religious and spiritual human being. But, that is now what the Gerbil and company doesn't want the American people to see. The Gerbil wants us in fear and hate Iran. And Girl Friday?? Please don't make me get started on her.. Yes, it is telling us her incompetence in her position but it is allowing to know that she was never competent for any high rank office jobs in the WH except emptying the trash! Thanks SPB for the CNN translation of the President Ahmadinejad's letter to Bush. You are correct that we need to read it - I wish someone in Congress would read it into the Congressional Record. Too bad that Bush doesn't have the brains to write such a letter. And naturally, he doesn't have the cranial capacity to understand what it is saying. Condi's comments show her amazing lack of history, religion and what the world is all about. It is truly scary that she is our Sec of State.

One particular thing in the letter that I am sure most Americans don't realize is the continued reference to Jesus and monotheism. Jesus is a prophet in the Muslim religion. The God the Muslims worship is the same one that Christians and Jews worship. Ahmadinejad challenges Bush to live up to the teachings found in the basics of all three religions. And then Condi dismisses the letter out of hand even before she has an "official translation".

We need to get rid of these people before the world crashes around our ears.

That's good to send to Jordan. The letter by the President of Iran was very informative and told a lot of truth. That is why the Gerbil doesn't us to read that letter. That letter showed a compassionate side to the President of Iran.

SECRETARY RICE: Well, let me address the letter first. Let me first say that we have looked at it. We've not done our own translation of it, which of course we will do and we'll look at in greater depth. But the first read of it, there is nothing in this letter that in any way addresses any of the issues really that are on the table in the international community -- the nuclear program -- in a straightforward way -- the terrorism issue. I think it would be best to say it's broadly philosophical in its character; it's 17 or 18 pages, I think. And it is most assuredly not a proposal. Let me be very clear about that. And so we'll do further examination of it, but there is nothing in here that would suggest that we're on any different course than we were before we got the letter.

QUESTION: When you say it's philosophical, is it a rant? Is it hostile or is it friendly?

SECRETARY RICE: Well, I'm loathe to say because we haven't done a proper translation of it; and speaking a foreign language myself, I think we want to do a translation of it. But it's not concrete in any way and it does not engage the issues. It's broadly philosophical, a little bit historical and it isn't something that you can sit and say, oh, well, here's what they're trying to tell us (inaudible).

QUESTION: Is it an opening, though?

SECRETARY RICE: I don't see it that way.

QUESTION: What is to prevent the United States from taking up -- if there's an offer, however vague or general, to enter into talks, what is the down side for us?

SECRETARY RICE: Let me just be very clear. This letter isn't it. This letter is not the place that one would find an opening to engage on the nuclear issue or anything of that regard. But I don't want to characterize it too much more because it's presidential correspondence. I also think that we need to get a proper translation of it. But it isn't addressing the issues that we're dealing with in concrete ways.

I totally agree with SPB.
If there is a way you can vote AGAINST (in a primary) an incumbant, do it! If you plan to vote for a Dem in your state in the General Election, use your primary vote to vote against a Rep and perhaps deny an incumbent a run for his office.
Also, don't split votes. Do not vote for a 3rd party no matter how appealing it is. It simply will take much needed votes away and a 3rd party candidate will not win (it's a terrific idea but it's not going to happen).
So if you do vote 3rd party, your vote has no power.

The people must take back this country. Overwhelmingly. It needs to be an absolute groundswell. What I'm hoping will happen is that the conservative base (is that what you make soup with?) will just stay away since they cannot bring themselves to vote for an opposing party.

Of course, many people in Congress will take the Gerbil's side since many of them are in the beackpocket of the Gerbil. But in order to stop the Gerbil, you have to vote against the people up for election in November who are sitting on those Congressional seats that are pro-Gerbil. Yes, it is sad of what is happening. I do agree that people are pretty fed up - for our part, we ARE Republicans (mentally) and these morons certainly do not represent us.

We are also people who financially support candidates and we can absentee ballots every election.

I am a registered independent and can vote for either a Dem or Rep in a primary. I choose to vote Rep so I can vote AGAINST an incumbent and then support my Dem candidate in the general election. I will not vote 3rd party as it splits the votes and the Reps will win (if they haven't managed to create oceans of voting irregularities by tormenting the voting machines).

I believe (from conversations at both mine and my husbands workplace (Major utility / hospital) - that Bush has crashed and burned. It's just a matter of sweeping up.

I hope that's true, but I've seen so much that just makes me sick, I'm just holding my breath until after November.
